Great job. The E4 error code means the temperature of the evap coil never dropped below the set point temp. My mini split did the same thing when the refrigerant got low.

I've gotten good at home appliance and air handler repair. I found a power wire had been rubbing against the condenser coil housing, and it rubbed all the way down to the copper. Every time the humidity got high, or it just flat out rained, the control board fuse would blow. I put some small, round foam tubing around the rub point and electrical tape around the wire. Good as new. Recently replaced a dryer inlet control thermistor, too. That's good as new, as well. Now, I have a portable air conditioner that is not blowing cold air (Model: APCA09YZMWL1). I can hear the compressor kick on. The articulating, motorized louver, & control interface works, and the blower is strong. I can feel same temp air coming out of both ends after some time has passed, when it should be cold. I think the kids knocked it over, and never said anything. I can see some broken/stressed black plastic on the inside of the blower chamber as it comes up to the louver exit. My wild guess is, there is a hole or crack in the refrigerant line, similar to what happened to yours. The only problem is, I do not have the specialized HVAC tools materials needed to charge the line, nor the expertise. I don't even know where to start, to find if the line is flat or not. It's not looking good for me, which means a $300 or more purchase may be in my future. I love the video, though, as it let me get a closer look into what I may come up against. Thank you.

Man if you had a entire series of videos on how to do things on these portable air conditioners your subscribers would go through the roof... Because after 2-4 years they stop working. Along with the fact that they intentionally do not have a installed recharge port... So you are forced to buy another portable..... But if they could come to youtube and follow a step by step in opening the unit up without damaging the insides... A second video showing how to cut out a section out of the pipe and welding on a Freon recharging port... And a third video showing how to recharge the system.... I would watch every one... Because I am recently unemployed... And my House ac went out a week before my temp position ended... And my water heater 2 days after... And then my car decided to join in with a cracked exhaust manifold, And Acceleration pedal... hahahahaha... Alabama is super humid with 90 degree heat... and not the state to be without air.... lol I need a permanent job like yesterday.. lol I would settle for hitting the lotto if anyone has the winning numbers.... The first 5 aithout the PB would be nice... Im not greedy...lol

I had a very small apartment. My unit, a SoleusAIR GL-PAC-08E4 (8,000btu) would pump out 3/4 of a mop bucket of water a day. I had to put it on a box so it was higher than the bucket, which I kept under the tube at all times. Several times I forgot to empty the bucket and wound up with a water soaked floor. Otherwise it worked fine.

+Jon M. HVAC You're welcome. It works well in tight spaces too. Use a piece of wire longer than you need so you can easily hold onto the tail which gets cut off when you're done. Pre-form a hook on the end of the wire and form it tightly around the tube with some sort of pliers. The finished coil will easily rotate on the tube which is why this will work. Move the tail to the top of your available work space and clamp down on your wire coil with pliers, then push the tail down. Keep doing this until your coil is at the length that you want. In other words, instead of trying to feed wire in circles let the coil spin instead which keeps the tail pointing towards you in your free working space. Braze or solder flows nicely between the coils because of the smooth radius.

@nicholasceea4109 3 жыл бұрын
@@Texaca I didn't see it anywhere, but came up with the idea a long time ago to fix a similar problem. It's just a coil of copper wire, like 14 gauge Romex, wrapped tightly around the pipe to cover the damage and a little bit extending on each side. If there is no room to wrap and the damage is on a straight section of pipe, you can turn the coil and feed the wire in until the coil is wide enough. The coil can also be made and pushed along a straight section to the damaged area.

At 15:21 I did the exact same thing today. I would really appreciate if anyone could reply and help answer a couple questions. How should I patch the line (same as in the video) ? Do these units not have service ports? Do you have to install your own? How do you charge the system? Is there a special tool to force the refrigerant other than a pressurized can?
@Texaca
@Texaca 3 жыл бұрын
...these units aren't meant to be repaired by the DIYer's, that's why he had to braze some ports on to those 2 copper lines. there might be other ways of doing it, but they all require some brazing on new ports, because it is a sealed pressurized system. it won't work with a temporary fix, like with pipe clamps or other solutions

Thanks for the video, nice work. As others have mentioned, the fan on these units do get noisy. I repaired rainbow water vacuums for some time when dinosaurs ruled the Earth and know that storing electrical / bearing / bushing driven fan motors with the least little bit of moisture left inside the unit seems to go right to the fan bushings/bearings. Then, next season you're greeted with a noisy or froze up fan. One I'm fixing currently was locked up and wasn't difficult to break free and spins quite a while when spun by hand which usually means a replacement isn't necessary but a good cleaning is. I'm wondering specifically, if I should just snake in a small straw and lube the upper/lower bushings (bearings) or bother with disassembly and completely removing the fan to clean it up. Doesn't seem to be a service manual on the net anywhere for these so figured I'd ask you before tearing down further. Thanks.

Maybe you can help me. I've got a Haier portable. I was neglectful, and didn't realize there were two sets of coils, when I took the back off, the bottom coils were caked with dirt. Before that, the compressor made a racket, so I turned it off. I cleaned everything with a hose that let it sit in the sun a couple of days. When I tried it again, the compressor immediately kicked in quietly and blew cool...not cold air, but then kicked off after a couple minutes. Started a couple minutes later again but kicked off even quicker. The compressor gets slightly louder right before it kicks off, but nothing like before I cleaned it. Do you have any suggestions?

Hey man I have a portable ac that used to work good for 2 years and then stoped working as good. now it cant get the room under 25C while it used to be as cold as I wanted. Nothing changed at all, but I did take it apart and vacumm all the dust out and that had the tiniest effect ever by lowering my temps by 1 degree C so I went from 26 ish to 25 ish. the air feels cold out the blower side so I have no clue why it cant cool my room anymore. Anyways could you give some recommendations? I'm gonna take it apart again and use a solvent on the coils and see if that works. Thanks.

Why are the upright (portable) ac's mostly considered junk? Do you mean single hose specifically or the dual hose models too? Just specific brands or what? I picked up a Danby Premiere DPA110DHA1CP, only because it was cheap (missing accessories and used). I'm always hearing that window ac's are 'better' and more efficient as a rule when compared to portable ac's, but only have heard the reason being due to portable's not having separate hot and cold sides, essentially. But (some) dual exhause units do..right? Thanks. Cool video.

I have a question, though its not to this unit? Its to an LG r401a lp0814wnr My issue with this unit started a few nights ago. Out of nowhere it started sounding like it was getting hit with rads or something (think rad counter in fallout games?), i went to drain it, all this water came out (little dirty but i assumed that was dust that got in the tank), dripped drained about 10 mins, nothing else came out. I didn't think tipping it over would do any good, cleaned things up, went back and things worked fine. Since then, its shutting itself, claiming full, when theres barely any water coming out. It won't go below 81, and i'm not sure which is working better right now, the cool, or the dehumidifier, but doesn't matter, it suddenly wants to be drained every 30 mins or so. I cannot deal with this heat, i've already had heat exhaustion and heat stroke twice, and i also cannot afford a new unit. I cannot lift it up anywhere to put a water hose in the plug thing (i'm not sure what you call it but you use it to drain the water out the window?) i don't have the ability for that, forgive me i can't think right with this heat, and its spitting out 81 degrees. That to me is hot, i'm dripping sweat here. My question is, what do i do to fix this tank issue, is cool better to run than dehumidifier, and yes i googled and confusion galore. Is there anything you can suggest, since i really can barely type on this keyboard without dripping onto it. I feel like i left a pool unsatisfied. If you have any time to help me understand, i appreciate it. I get confused and overwhelmed very easily and i've drained this thing 3 times already today. Please help, thank you.
