Without doubt; even if you never went through all, or some, of the things she experienced, it still holds deep meaning in your own life - I was a13-yr old in the early 1980s when I first heard it, and I have been mesmerised ever since. That is a sign of genius, I think

Lyrics: Just before our love got lost you said, I am as constant as a northern star And I said, "Constantly in the darkness, Where's that at? If you want me I'll be in the bar." On the back of a cartoon coaster In the blue TV screen light I drew a map of Canada Oh, Canada With your face sketched on it twice. Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and so sweet Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling And I would still be on my feet Oh, I would still be on my feet Oh, I am a lonely painter I live in a box of paints. I'm frightened by the devil And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid. I remember that time you told me You said, "Love is touching souls." Surely you touched mine. 'Cause part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time. Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter and so sweet. Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling And still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet I met a woman She had a mouth like yours She knew your life She knew your devils and your deeds. And she said, "Go to him, stay with him if you can But be prepared to bleed." Oh, but you are in my blood You're my holy wine You're so bitter Bitter and so sweet. Oh, I could drink a case of you darling Still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet Writer: Joni Mitchell

Rian: I had a radio/casette recorder back in 71 (72?). It could record a song playing on the radio, and I was able to push "record" about 6 secs. into this song. This began my life long love of Joni Mitchell. Saw her in 3 concerts, wish it had been many more. So glad she's collaborating with remastering her earlier recordings. If you go to jonimitchell.com you can pre order a 4 cd remastered set, (also avail. on vinyl) and also some JM merchandise. Blessings to Joni & all her legions of fans.

It never fails that every time I hear this song, I think of the scene from Practical Magic with Nicole Kidman singing along with it in the car, as the sun sets and rises during her journey. I think that has become my default memory because her energy and emotions encapsulate the vibe and feel of this song. It was such a perfect marriage of music and story; it has been engraved in my memory and will be forever married to each other.

I never cared for James Taylor's music - not good, not bad, just not for me. I was listening to this version of A Case of You a few years ago and was captivated by the guitar accompaniment and had to look it up and was astonished that it was James Taylor - here was someone whose music never grabbed me playing what I thought was the perfect acoustic guitar accompaniment for this song - never getting in the way but still noticeable, every note sensitively chosen and wonderfully executed, and adding significantly to one of the best songs ever. His music still doesn't grab me but I have a respect for him I'd never had before and was happy to find out how badly I'd misjudged his obviously great talent.

I ❤️ Joni Mitchell. Forever. She is a Deva, a Bodhisattva, a goddess, and a muse. Her music is far ahead of its time and also timeless. Court and Spark is one of the greatest albums ever made in American music history IMO. In my early twenties I had a cassette tape I played it so often my car radio ate it. I listen to the songs on Court and Spark today and they awaken some of the most deepest emotions--every song lyrics said something new to me in different ages and stages of my life. They're so reflective melancholic, and transcendent, and at the same time so humorous, humane, and poignant. Even at such an early age she seems to have captured every nuance of "The Tragic Sense of Life" (Unanumo) in the human condition.

I am so glad to have been 12, 13 when her music filled my FM radio, in So Cal, where I was a girl. I remember my dad driving me & my BFF, Cathy up thru Laurel Canyon, when we were 13, my dad was 34 & very into music & he showed us girls the fantastic place where our favorite musicians lived. What a time to grow up!! I will 4ever love Joni, I love her so much that I somehow just knew to Google Joni, 15-20 minutes after she was found unresponsive in 2015 & she was being rushed to the hospital...I prayed and prayed that she would live & be ok. I knew her health was compromised by the polio she had as a girl, I am so grateful she is still with us. 💖💖

First time listening to Joni Mitchell because I watched Brandi Carlile's video with her. I'm from Brazil and 38 years old, I'm deeply touched by the voice and the lyrics.

Timeless. Unique, both in her composing and performing. For me, listening to her songs is like taking my soul into a time machine and sending it back to the times and places when I first heard her sing them over 50 years ago.

Since 1971, when this song saved my life, I have been unabashedly a devotee to this stunningly brilliant artiste. May future generations be blessed with her piercingly poignant insights into the sometimes abject state of the human condition.

For anyone who wants to read for me this song.... He just got off work me. Lying on my back and his head rested between my boobs. Arms wrapped around me. Only 2 pillar candles lighting the room. His eyes closed me singing the song word-for-word. I tickled him with the tips of my fingers on his head, his ears, neck. And tears silently rolling out of my eyes and my thought was "Oh my God, if i died right now i would die happy. This safe feeling, this comfort and happiness that almost makes me sick because it's so foreign to me. And i remember thinking this is what being in love and being loved back feels like". It was truly one of the happiest moments of my life, listening to this song. Now, every time I hear this song its like a dull knife being twisted in an old wound. God, wanting to go back to that exact moment. She says it best when she says so bitter sweet!

So many artists have covered this song, but very few even begin to capture the charm of the original recording. I recently came across a cover version from the deluxe edition of Michelle Branch's "Hotel Paper"; I wasn't expecting to like it at all, but it's arguably one of the best I've heard. I've also come to appreciate Prince's rendition of the track. Aside from how appropriate the song was for Price and his stellar vocals, it wasn't easy to embrace right off the bat -- he put so much of his own flavor into it and the song takes on a completely different shape in my opinion.

So it looks like the albums are newly remastered and remixed (most importantly). It looks like Joni is at the helm. Rhino does an excellent job. I am really looking forward to this project and have preordered!!

Remastered, yes. Remixed, no, although "SONG TO A SEAGULL, the original mix has been recently updated by Joni and mixer Matt Lee" is a pretty ambiguous statement. This song sounds distorted to me. I love Joni's work and own all of her albums, but am tired of the constant repackaging of stuff I already own several times over.

@@randyremote4687 I re-read the above description and decided it was an impulse order and un-preordered it. I appreciate your enlightenment on this. I am also tired of repackaging. Thanks!
