He wouldn't yield to the establishment. Same as Johnny Winter. Refused to 'play ball' with record execs..hated doing interviews at the radio stations ect.... Without social media as it is today, these guys had limited options to get their music out there..but they never sold out. They just played what they loved to play and if people came to see them great! If not oh well.. True bluesman. One of the absolute best ever.

I discovered this guy in 1997 when he released “Lie To Me” and have follower him ever since. To say he has talent is a gross understatement. His Dad would take him to see “Blues” artists when he was just a boy; he fell in love with the sound and decided that he was going to do that. He did, and I am glad he did because I have every single recording (nearly eighty releases) that he has done. Few people on earth can burn the strings like Johnny Lang!

Because a guy like this isn't having his music manufactured by a giant studio with lots of money to throw around, and get as much exposure as possible, as often as possible. It's about money. And, like Hollywood, and the video game industry, the most popular stuff is the dumbed down to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
@disgustedangel96088 жыл бұрын
+Sue T. He did blow up back in the late 90s! I remember when that happened because I loved his blues and so did others. Jonny Lang has a newer song called Blew Up The House. He sings about the problems he had because he'd walked away from God, was selfishly living his own way, and walking the wide path of destruction instead of God's straight and narrow path. When he wouldn't do what the music industry wanted him to do and turned his life around, things changed with him. That may be why he was shut out. The lyrics in Blew Up The House tell his story!
@disgustedangel96088 жыл бұрын
+Sue T. I spelled Jonny Lang's name wrong in my previous post and couldn't edit. I remember around that time that Kenny Wayne Shepherd was also popular with his blues. KWS was born in 1977 and Jonny Lang was born in 1981. I Googled some info and they were touring together in 2015. Jonny had gotten into doing drugs after he hit the music scene and that may be another reason why he didn't stay popular. There is also the fact that there is really no local radio stations for blues music. Blues doesn't fit into mainstream pop or country. It is a true shame, but it's a fact! I hope you're doing well +Sue T. 😊
@MNTayler8 жыл бұрын
;) Thank you for the intelligent, comment. KQ had him on several times...but Lie to me, I see it in such a different way now...
@disgustedangel96088 жыл бұрын
Sue T. You're welcome. 😊 When I saw Lie To Me in the late 90s, I saw the video on MTV. I don't remember Jonny Lang or KWS getting any air play on our local radio stations at all. I watched that vid last night and it was just how I remembered it. Jonny going into what looks like a music store, picking a guitar, and jamming! I knew the meaning of the song back then due to things that have happened in my own life. Have a great weekend Sue T. 👍

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. So forgive me if I'm wrong what you're saying is the 4 genres you just mentioned are the illegitimate offspring of then music industry? Meaning they couldn't produce a tune that's worth a shit? Shouldn't it be that the music industry is the real illegitimate child in this scenario? Whereas all they give a shit about is $$$$?

Wow, went to see Jonny Lang 4 29 2017 in Naples Fl ... wow is all I can say. I had no idea that his voice was as good as it gets... and of course his guitar playing is probably the best ever... and the fact that he put on an amazing show for 350 old farts, he gave 100% and blew me away. Kinda sad I missed the meet and greet as i actually hung out with his Dad a couple times in MN (Jonny had a house on Lake Minnetonka next to one of my good friends). As a musician myself I can say, if you check out some of his youtube stuff that is even a year or 2 old... he has gotten EVEN BETTER!!!!

Ditto. He played with Buddy Guy at the Chicago theater back in about 2013 or maybe it was 2014, or so. Terrific!

Back in the early 90’s I saw BB King, Buddy Guy and Eric Johnson in MA. Buddy opened, had the place ROCKIN’!! Eric Johnson cane out, great guitarist, but put us all to sleep. BB King? As always just fantastic! I could listen to this man sing and read the phone book for weeks at a time and it would never get old. The Master! Damn shame it wasn’t Jonny touring with them but I’m not sure when Jonny started or if Mr King even knew him or of him at that time.

Luv his music. Terrific blues performer. Is it just me or does he look too young for that voice?

Go back and listen to his early teen music when he known as Kid Johnny Lang. He was something of a child prodigy. He has a peculiar intense style that may not appeal to all blues lovers. His talent is undeniable though.

You should see his performances from his teens!! lol
