Great looking project. How have the pipes held up? Have they been able to support the weight or have they bent a lot over time?

Thank you. Yes they've held up great, if worried and wanted something a lil stronger I'd suggest using black gas pipe 👍

Hell yeah Johnny boy! I’m going to build one of these but I’m gonna put it on casters since I have limited space. Hey random question though. Do you know what that yellow flowering plant is all over your backyard? Is that some kind of primrose or buttercup? I’m curious, it’s nice but looks mildly invasive lol

Nice casters would be good. I belive it is buttercup, we always just called it sourgrass round these parts. And yes! It is invasive, theres seems to be no way of getting rid of it. You can pull it out and itll be right back the next year. It does somewhat go away during the hot summer months though

Any thoughts how to add space to hold the bar upright in the center?

Yes I would probably just either screw a length of thick PVC type plastic pipe to the side of tower that it could slide in or Id just put a piece of wood with a hole in it to top of tower and then slide bar down through it to floor

You mention to drill a hole slightly smaller than the pipe's size. What drill bit size did you choose and what is the external diameter of the Conduit pipe?

I believe the conduit was 3/4" outer diameter so just a bit a size smaller than that.

@@JonnyDIY loved making mine, I made the centre piece out of 90mmX90mm post . Works so good and only took 1 hour 45 minutes

Wow, I actually can't wait to make one of these for the weight plates in my garage. I was looking for something like this! Pretty cool. Does it hold up well though in the long term? Like do those pipes get lose at all in their respective holes within that 2x6?

Its held up well but I try and put weights back carefully. I imagine they could loosen a bit over time but could be easily fixed with clamping a washer and hose clamp on the pipe on each side of the wood. Or you could make layer 2 or 3 pieces of the wood stacked together for the upright giving a lot more meat for the pipe to pass through

@@JonnyDIY I was actually thinking of doing this exact build and add a 2nd 2x6 upright, just like you say, to make it a beefy core. The holes should be quite sturdy with just that and last long enough I think. Other than that I think I will just add corner metal clamps on the interiors of the foot base, to keep the feet strongly together and that should make it a strong base.

@@nimkal I thought of using a threaded rod. Then you can just use two nutes to clap it to the wood. But might be a little bit pricier then just a pipe.

@@robertcollins9056 3/4" bit will work. Ideally you want hole just slightly smaller than pipe so itll fit tight.

@@JonnyDIY if you used 3/4” pipe, and then a 7/8” spade bit, wouldn’t the pipe not be tight Since the bit would be bigger than the pipe? You must have used 1” pipe and for it to fit right with the 7/8 spade, correct?

Thanks, you could get probably get away with making it with only 1 8ft piece, but always good to have an extra in case you need it or make mistakes

Just regular lumber from hardware store. So Douglas Fir or Pine 👍🏻

Would this design hold 10 45lb weights and 2 35lb and 2 25lb 6 10lb 2 5lb and 2 2.5lb

Yes should work fine, will have to make taller and expand the length of legs out some to give a lil more stability for that much weight. I thought of a more simple design after this build that I used before making a clothes rack. Here's a similar pic, the legs just go all around the base. Heck you may want to use like a 4x6 in the middle or double up the 2x10 to give the pegs a little more wood in the middle for all that weight. Almost 600 lbs

@@JonnyDIY I was thinking about putting pipes not going from only one side left-right but back and front; protruding out of all sides. Using your measurements but with bigger wood and maybe enforcement with some metal sheets?

Yeah that would work. Yeah maybe get some metal L brackets. Those always help to add a lil more sturdiness
