In this video 'Tattoo Line Work For Beginners' I follow up from a previous video I released a while ago to fill any gaps in information so you can confidently move forward to tattoo some nice strong lines.
This video covers a topic which has never been discussed which not only demonstrates the practical side of tattooing linework, shows you exactly why you're not getting ink into the skin but also delves into the mindset of an apprentice beginner tattooist and a pro tattooist and examines how your work can be dramatically effected just by approaching a tattoo with the wrong frame of mind.
To get the very most out of this video I strongly recommend you watch the original first from this link and then come back to watch this one:

I appreciate and resonate with that video. Last year I started tattooing and my confidence was high, I was pulling clean lines, doing good job for an apprentice, until I moved overseas, and had to start all over again (building a new clientele, finding a studio). It destroyed my confidence in my practice (tattooing less than I used to do), in my capacity of producing good art and clean tattoos. Since then I’ve almost quit tattooing, but your video just gave me a reminder that, with patience and practice, I can give myself the opportunity to pull off some awesome tattoos. I’m planning to start over with an apprenticeship in a parlor. Thank you for your video Jono. Your content has always been useful and very informative.

Great Video. The Part with the mindset was great. Its hard to know all the important stuff but forget about everything because of the inner panic. I appreciate this video a ton! I’ve literally only been tattooing for 2 weeks, I’ve gone against what you said about practicing on human skin and done a few on myself, my partner and mum also wanted some small ones😂 I did a decent thigh piece on myself and have already been offered an apprenticeship but still I struggle to pull off one pass lines consistently. I can do it just very far from every time. I’m getting more confident now for sure but still got a ways to improve, I know a lot of the people at this shop since I get my stuff done there usually and they are super excited to show me the ropes🤙🏼

Tattooin skin is the best experience you will ever get. I have been tattooing for 1 year and fakes skin is so much easier to miss mistakes. Its very easy to tattoo fake skin and get crisp lines. Soon as you go to real skin its totally different. Practice on yourself and close friends or family that are willing to let you tattooo them and maybe even mess up ! My best friend has let me cover his leg already and its helped me so much to determine depths ! Especially because his skin is actually the hardest to tattoo(super thin skin with 0 water retention. Soon as i tattooed someone other than him my lines came out so smooth 🤟. Hope you make more progress with your tattoos !

@@Stong1337 love to hear it! Yep my partner has given up her leg for me so I’ve been doing all sorts of patchwork all over it, some very clean tattoos, some not so much but she doesn’t care hahaha, also done a few on my mum and other friends, and started covering myself😂 I’m slowing myself down a bit as I have an award winning tattooist taking me under his wing through an apprenticeship soon as his advice was to blast through a sketch pad with all sorts of different sketches, and tattoo my best looking work on myself or a friend😁

I wished I would have researched better, MAYBE! watch these types of videos and have a little bit more education or heads up on what to get, but it is what it is at this moment. It's good for the basics, but when I'm better learned and educated, I will definitely get a better and more efficient pro-kit. Hey! I hope all is well 😊 I'm wondering if you can tell me why on just 1 line, won't take? Like no matter what I do the ink just won't go into my skin. What am I doing wrong, because the place it choose not to stick is in the middle of a moon phase I'm doing on my finger. I've tried adding more into to my cartridge, I've tried going even slower than my already agonizingly slow speed, I've tried pushing harder, etc. Nothing is working and I'm starting to panic a bit. Thank you

How do you feel about the DYNAMIC BLK (triple black) instead of the regular?

Your apprentice version makes me nervous. I just started on actual skin but I don’t think I’ve ever done that bAd even on my practice skin🥲I often find myself not going deep enough bc I’m terrified of causing a blowout causing me to have to go over lines again. Luckily I’m pretty confident going over lines but this videos was very helpful as I was having a bit of a hard time but turns out I just need to trust myself with the needle depth.

I love 99.9 % of the info you’ve given these young artists who are watching to learn how to NOT screw up ppls tattoos.. but technically I think you could have explained why you “Pull” the line line vs. pushing it as you did in the apprentice section of the video.. I know the tattooers who taught me either purposely left that part out or just didn’t fully understand the techniques.. when I figured it out on my owe later it changed my line game..but over all great video..

Oh wow the thing is I thought I was doing it wrong because I was too confident and bold from beginning and then I got little sad that my line didn't go as solid as on draft but I looked at that straight line and it looks exactly like mine(maybe because it's skin it can't be too straight as I imagined) also while being confident is good yeah I need practice on timing because sometimes I hurry

Not a tattoo artist, but I’d be careful about using witch hazel. While it’s a common ingredient, a lottttt of people can have reactions to it
