Great sheath! I've been looking into making a kydex sheath for a kitchen knife I got recently to protect it in the drawer from the other metal utensils & take camping, but the kydex alone isn't very cheap, and then I learn I have to make a press to form it.. I'll probably give this a try first since I have the tools, thanks! Yours turned out great!

The only final step I would take is to add some sort of attachment point to the very top. So that I could add some sort of optional lanyard in between the sheaf and the knife. You just can’t be too careful out there in the backwoods. Maybe you could paint the sheaf itself with some super bright orange fluorescent paint.

About cutting length, Since the tube isn't long enough for two I wouldn't cut so close until the very end just in case might get under sized. But that's small madder and over a nice build. Only is my knife safe in the sheft is it pretty trustable in the woods from breaking? Good video Thanks for the teaching Sir

How do you know what size pipe to use? Same as the blade is wide or what?

It was 3/4" schedule 40 pvc, and the blade is a little over 1 inch wide.

thanks! i just need around a quarter inch or so less yhan my blade width?
I just guessed when I made it. The pipe will stretch some. (Blade width times 2 plus blade thickness) divided by 3.14 = Pipe inner diameter

Why not cut in half and use it kinda like a kydex sheet?
@richardpeterson37536 жыл бұрын
Laundry Sauce nothing wrong with that. if I did it like that I would punch holes on the edges and run a pass or two with the sewing awl like any other sheath.
@richardpeterson37536 жыл бұрын
largely for cosmetics, but also for added security in keeping the edge together. though adhesives work well too. I got a stitching awl so it's no biggy

I think you should have lined the inside with maybe some leather. Seems to me shoving your sharp knife down into a piece of bare pvc would be kind of hard on the blade.
