Great review want to get one soon. FYI it's a water heater, not a hot water heater. I know a lot of folks say that but we aren't heating hot water, we are heating cold or room temp water, so water heater is what it is. Nice job out there!

Hi Preston. Thanks for the Vid. That is a nice setup. As fare as I can tell, you are running a leveling kit on the front with OEM tires. In you travels, do you ever wish you had a 3" lift and a set of 35" wheels? I am going back and forth between OEM and AEV. My stock ties are the 20" but I want to gear down to 17" rims with a set of 35s. Thoughts?
@PrestonGladd
@PrestonGladd 4 жыл бұрын
I’m running the bilstein 2.3 inch leveling kit with replacement coils and 33 inch BF goodrich KO2’s. I have not found anything that I cannot do that I have wanted to do. I have ran 34s and I like that tire size, the main reason I’ve stuck to 33’s is because my gearing is 3.42 and I tow and so unless I change out my gearing to 410s or some thing a little bit beefier I can’t run 35s efficiently while towing a heavy load IMO. If you have 4.10 gears then I think that 35s will be just fine with a leveling kit, I would not use a puck I would use an actual coil replacement kit, it makes a world of difference, I’ve had both. The AEV system is great if that’s what you would like to do and can afford it but the value you get for the price I don’t necessarily think is there. It’s basically just an upside down spacer kit but it’s still a good kit as it maintains all the geometry you need and allows you to run very large tire sizes. I will never run 37 or40 inch tires I just don’t think that there’s any point to it at all, I’m in a mega cab I’m not gonna be doing any massive rock crawling. But to each their own if that is what makes someone happy then there’s nothing wrong with it.
@bubbatim2009
@bubbatim2009 4 жыл бұрын
@@PrestonGladd You bring up some solid points. I didn't think about the gearing and I will be towing an HQ 19. I have the crew cab 2500 and the same gearing as you. Rock crawling is also not in my future. Thanks for the solid feedback. Safe travels my friend...

Great review! I have been looking for a kit like this for a long time. So I purchased the nomad despite the performance of the pump that comes with it. I probably won’t shower and wash dishes at the same time but it is good to be prepared. In the video you mentioned a 2.9 gpm pump that might support taking a shower AND washing dishes at the same time. How did you come up with that number. Does Joolca make one that does 2.9 gpm or do you have one that you can recommend? TY ! Subbed to the channel as well. Looking forward to new videos from you.

Question: what level of water filter is on the end of the resource hose. If you drop it in a mountain stream or lake, does it kill Giardia and other microbes lurking in the water? Thank you.
@PrestonGladd
@PrestonGladd 3 жыл бұрын
Tim Stocker no it is only to keep larger sediment out. It does not provide any filtration as far as I know. I just use .75 ML of bleach per gallon and wait 30 minutes if I need to purify water, then I recirculate it back through the pump to clean the hose and pump.
@PrestonGladd
@PrestonGladd 3 жыл бұрын
Update, the CDC now recommends .5 mL of bleach per gallon. Also be cognizant of what percent your bleach is because there are different measurements for different percentage levels of bleach. You can find information on the CDC website or on the WHO website.

I was also wondering about draining the sink. Does the drain hole allow for a drain hose to direct the water out of camp?
@PrestonGladd
@PrestonGladd 3 жыл бұрын
Cherié Posluszny on the Joolca? You could fashion something but it doesn’t come with a drain hose. If you wanted it to drain out of camp I would recommend making the hole bigger and using some larger diameter hose. The drain hole on the Joolca isn’t really designed well.

The Nomad kit comes with an adapter that screws onto the tub's drain hole that turns it into another quick-disconnect, then simply click a hose on it.

Does the filter just keep leaves and settlement out or does it actually make lake or river water clean?
@PrestonGladd
@PrestonGladd 3 жыл бұрын
The Joolca NOMAD filter only keeps leaves and large sediment out. You would need to pair it with something like the Clearsource NOMAD (the companies are not related) for clean safe water. I just released a video on that system today.

Have you set this kit up in high elevation? I live in CO and reached out to Jollca to see how high the kit has been tested and currently they have not tested the kit above 6,000 ft above sea level. My home sits at 6,800 and when I am in the mountains I am anywhere from 9-12,000 feet above
@PrestonGladd

I have not had it over 3500 feet, I’ve only had the unit for two weeks and I’m located in the Mojave desert region currently, I will be traveling to higher elevations in the near future and will test it then but currently I do not know how it will perform at high elevations.

I have a similar product made by Hike Camp and I just came back from Sequoia where the altitude at our campsite was over 6500... that was enough to prevent my propane water heater from lighting. I was so frustrated bc I thought the unit was broken. When I came back home to Orange County -- the unit fired up without any issues at all. This unit is very impressive looking as the Hike Camp unit is as well - lots of similarities... though, I am actually thinking of purchasing this unit for the additional accessories like the sink and waterproof pump system. Does anyone have a solution for high altitude and propane ignition?

Hi there! I just wanted to see how the Joolca is working after 7 months . I have the same system and it stopped functioning less than a month after I received it. I really want it to work so I'm debating to get an exchange or refund. I made a review on my channel to show the issues I am having with my unit.
@PrestonGladd
@PrestonGladd 3 жыл бұрын
The only issue I had with mine is I broke one of the top covers for the Nomad Basin and I put hose clamps on all of the hose fittings because the plastic ones were not strong enough. I make sure to drain my unit if using in cold weather and I have used it a lot over the past few months with no other issues.

@@PrestonGladd Interesting and good to know. I was a bit disappointed after testing at my house a few times and seeing it work perfectly, then taking it out on an actual trip in 48 degree weather to have it fail. I hope I just got a bunk system, maybe I'll exchange it and hope the exchange is better than the first. Thanks!
