This video shows you how to practice Joong-Gun Tul which is the 6th of 24 patterns in Taekwon-Do. It explains how to practice various parts of the pattern, such as how to pivot when you are turning, how to move your body during the different stages of the movements as well as how to remain balanced and develop more power. Then, the video explains the sequence of all 32 movements in the pattern.
Before learning this pattern, it is advisable to watch the following videos so that you are familiar with the techniques in this pattern:
Lesson #37 Palm Upward Block
Lesson #38 Palm Pressing Block
Lesson #39 Upper Elbow Strike
Lesson #40 Twin Fist Upset Punch
Lesson #41 Twin Fist High Vertical Punch
Lesson #42 Angle Punch
Lesson #43 U-Shape Block

I recognise Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi as the true authority on Taekwon-Do. The information in my tutorial is based on my interpretation of Taekwon-Do as taught to me by the Founder General Choi Hong Hi and as referred to in his book ‘TAEKWON-DO’ (5th Edition 1999) Published by ITF and printed in Canada.
Other Taekwon-Do Masters and Grand Masters may have a different interpretation of Taekwon-Do theory and practice, so if you are a Taekwon-Do student, it is important to check with your instructor if you are not sure about which interpretation you should be following.

Thank you Sir. I keep telling the younger students to keep working on lower patterns but most get to blue belt and cant do all the lower patterns then again at red. Not an instructor, Just a low rank black belt, who's ask to help from time to time, good up to Eui-Am. Joon Gun was my Achilles tendon, I skipped a rank doing it but failed my black belt test because I forgot it. No excuse, but I was sick on the black belt test. Took cold meds and other stuff to try and feel good enough to test. Didn't Work! Turned my brain into mush. My instructor said my score was good enough to pass, but said I no you wouldn't want to just barely pass; He was correct.

You are right. It is important to practice all patterns from Chon-Ji up to your grade.

Thats harsh. Nerves and being too critical of self can make me forget in grading. It would be ideal to go through all patterns in every lesson but I think it bores some students. I would rather do all patterns so to be confident in gradings. I've spent so much time focusing on Choong moo that I've forgotton the second half of Hwa rang!

Just wanted to say thank you for putting this together, the detail you go to in explaining this pattern stands this video out from the rest, which I do find incredibly valuable as I try to learn this pattern as well as I can. Often small details or mistakes I may be making in class may not be spotted or picked out, so here I can see if I need to adjust or correct anything myself. Ironically, the segment at the end of your video was something that I found myself doing in class; finding myself finishing a lot further back from where I started which wasn't really happening with the other patterns until now - I will try to measure and adjust my stances accordingly so I finish in the same place.

Thanks for this video - your way of explaining each technique is very helpful and is a great example to base my practice on. At our club we are preparing for tournament mens team pattens so if you have any words of advise when considering team based work (as opposed to individual) or advise on when to include whips etc to improve scores then I would love to hear it.

Love it, thank you, Sir. Quick question: in the condensed Encyclopaedia (1999), it says in movement numbers 21 & 35, "pulling the left foot." In that case, is it a pull of the foot in front to alter the legs from one stance to another or should it be bring that foot in a bit then place it out in a different position to go from Walking to L-stance?
@DonatoNardizzi
@DonatoNardizzi Жыл бұрын
In this case it means to pull the foot about a third of the way back and then place it very slightly forward to into L-Stance. This helps to apply more forward momentum to the punch. In Choong Moo Tul movement 21, it is different. In this case you just pull directly to L-Stance since you do not need any forward momentum for the Backfist Side Back Strike.

Hello GM Nardizzi, great video as always. I have a question, however. At around 1:54 you explain the second move, a front snap kick in L-stance. Then, you suggest to rest the foot back where it was before the kick. However, both my instructor and, having looked at the encyclopedia, suggest that foot should move back about half the way, as if going into Dwitbal Sogui, but without lifting the heel of the front foot at first. Then you would move forward into Dwitbal Sogui as in the video. So I am in doubt as to which is correct: rest the foot back where it was, rest it half the way back, or even, back where it was, but pull it back half the way first before going into Dwitbal Sogui. Thanks in advance, Taekkwon!
@DonatoNardizzi
@DonatoNardizzi 4 жыл бұрын
I didn't do a good job of explaining it in the video. Your instructor is right. You place the foot down naturally so it will end up being closer than L-Stance (similar to Rear Foot Stance). After resting the foot on the floor you move forward for the next movement. There is no need to drop the heel down during the process.

I quit progressing in ITF TKD due to moving to another city and ITF is not existing here. I switched to WTF. This Tul was the last I learned and to this day I practise it along the other ITF Tuls I know. It is my favorite pattern of them all... even Koryo Poomse of WTF. What would I give to practise in ITF classes again... Your videos help me sustaining what I learned. Thank you for this content.

do you think the actual applications of the patterns might be difficult from the official applications? The angle punch for instance makes no sense as a punch but it might be logical as a head crank as practiced in certain karate bunkai. I see applications for twin side elbow, as in toi-gye, in this and the jumping x-fist downward block , also from toi--gye here, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fNqWga2nmJjcoY0.html. (I'm not finding the video which shows an application for angle punch yet)

I love the patterns of modern Tae Kwond Do, the Japanese Karate and Okinawan Karate systems which it was EVOLVED / STOLEN FROM except this Sine-wave concept is not EFFECTIVE = two much wasted motions and it's weak, in a real fight because the human KINEMATICS can only be dynamic as twisting using the hips as in the Japanese SHOTOKAN system and the JEET KUNE DO systems. SINE WAVE looks good for DANCING ONLY. I WOULD LIKE 6TH DAN SHOTOKAN 26 year old Karate man adopt this PATTERN into the SHOTOKAN System and give it's MAXIMUM DYNAMIC STRENGTH RHYTHM and POWER.

Karate from Japan and Okinawa systems has stolen many Kung Fu techniques from China, anyway Taekwon-do tuls are just are for purpose to train your main and your body.However, a good ITF practitioner is able to beat any type of Karate practioner, due to has developed good techniques as well; and furthermore your insignificant, ignorant and worthless opinion is not important on this channel, good luck.
