We tried uploading this earlier today but there was an audio issue so this is our second attempt
This is Part 2 of our hunts from last week. In Part 1, I pass up a really nice young buck and in Part 2, Jordan gets a chance at her first buck with a bow. In addition, there are lots of tips on moving blinds, when to grunt to stop a deer and where to hunt during the mornings during the late pre-rut. Lots of great pre-rut action from the Winke Farm.

My wife is a new hunter. She has gotten a doe three yrs. In a row now with a X bow. She's a very good shot. I'm trying to teach her about deer about rubs And scrapes and difference between oak trees. My number one advice is be patient and let them make mistakes. Let them learn. U can't scold them when they miss. She missed one earlier on but realized she aimed with the wrong cross hair. Went back out and shot a doe right in the money.

Good tip to secure your release to your bow! One tip id leave is to secure it on top limbs and or another area than lower limbs, reason I mention that is one time I drew back checking something on my string and my release slid down, then since no one was around I had to let down and it rolled the string off the cam. I love watching your videos.

Yes, very good tip. I have seen that happen too. Not good. Very good input. I have suggested that she attach it to the support bar behind the grip on those Hoyt bows. Hard to get into trouble there. Thanks.

Being someone who’s hunted high pressure skittish deer my whole life down here in south Alabama. When it’s super calm out late evening or early morning with close quarters deer I’ve found that the best way to stop ‘em is with a light tongue click or a real quick high pitch whistle works best. I rarely ever “grunt” to stop a deer.
@bill-winke
@bill-winke Жыл бұрын
Interesting. I have whistled before, but I fear that in the heat of the moment I might not be able to pull it off. Thanks for the input. Good luck this season.

Great advice. I started keeping my release on my bow after I forgot it one time. That’s the first thing I do when I get back to my vehicle after a hunt is take it off my wrist and strap to the bow.

Also had that happen to me when I tried to stop a big shooter. It was still and he was about 10 yards away. He jumped back into a thicket and stared in my direction after I gave him the stop grunt . Was a lesson learned. If that close and on a slow pace walk, let it rip

Really enjoy seeing Jordan back in the deer woods. Enjoy the time spent in the tree together - they will be some awesome memories. I'm 29 and look back on all the great hunts I shared with my Dad in the stand. Good luck! Any chance that the buck that spooked smelled the practice arrows that were shot at the exact same time you grunted to cause that extreme reaction?

Great to see you making a series again, but also great to see you teaching Jordan also. As hunters, we should all pass on our knowledge to the next generation whenever possible. I really enjoy sitting with my daughters when they hunt and see them be successful and realize how much I have taught them over the years. Very rewarding.

I've had them react to my stopping grunt like that twice. Both were on the same day within 45 minutes of each other. It was super windy and it had them very on edge. My release is always either strapped to my wrist or my bow. Makes it impossible to forget your release, great advice.

I really love watching you with your daughter. I’ve always hunted with my Dad for over forty years, unfortunately this year we have my Daddy on hospice care. So it’s been a very sad season for me. But we were able to put his bed In his family room with all his favorite game hanging on his walls along with being in front of his picture window facing his woods with the beautiful autumn trees. He’s able to at least watch the deer and wildlife. He’s not only my Dad but my best friend.

It's amazing how much we take for granted as hunters, and especially bowhunters. Taking my 6 kids out is a reminder that there are tons of little things we just do without thinking about it. Why we hang stands facing certain directions, why we access and leave stands using certain routes, why we call to this deer in this situation but not that deer. Things our own dads or hunting mentors taught us that have become second-nature. It's cool to see your interactions with your daughter in the stand, Bill. I look forward to seeing her 10-ringing her first archery deer soon.

Words of Wisdom by Jordan was a great piece of advice for every bowhunter. I've done it before. Luckily I keep a backup in my pack but definelty solid advice. Interesting on how that 1 1/2 yr old reacted to the stop grunt. I wonder if it scared him because of how quiet it was? I would think it's not pressure related or bully buck? I'm sure you'll be gun shy on trying it again!! Lol.. Good luck!

As a beginner, I use to wait to put my release on until I was in my stand. That was until I climbed into my stand in November and as I was pulling my bow up, a buck chased a doe right by my stand. I wasn’t able to get my release on in time. Also, if you have your release on and put on another layer of clothing, make sure your release is not caught in the sleeve. That also prevented me from shooting a nice buck. Good luck Jordan!!

The vodka comment got me, I chuckled. That young buck probably freaked out on account that it was so calm and he was standing at the tightest point in the pinch where he is most vulnerable. I’ve watched a lot of bucks stop and watch for minutes before entering a field and you just happened to try and stop him right where he would have done that.
