If the commentator is White, wouldn't he know better how a White character is acting weird? As a (non-White) Nordic person, I have yet to experience people running at me at night, if they did I would consider it odd and hostile.

Get Out was already one of my favorite films of the year and I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few days thinking about it and realized so many things that I hadn’t known before. I’m probably just stupid but until a few minutes ago I had no idea that the caretakers were black people with the brains of white people put in them. I thought they did something to them that made them almost brain dead, I hadn’t realized they went that far.

Django702 or you know... he meant it literally. Eddie's biggest inspiration as a comic was Pryor. There are bits from Murphy's routines that are straight out from Pryor including the "Get out" joke.

Their minds were on two separate levels. Racism is a touchy subject for someone who's experienced it. Jordan was uncomfortable because he was being serious while people were laughing at the realities he was describing. Jordan had the right point, but Stephen was awkward because he was trying too hard to not be racist.

This man may become one of the greatest filmmakers in history. "Get Out" is the only movie I've ever seen that affected me to the depth and breath that Kubrick or Forman has. It's a movie that lasts a lifetime with a deeper experience on each viewing. What a brilliant man and team.

When you interact with a person you can get a sense of their opinion of you. Your perception of their opinion can shape your behavior. I think Jordan got the impression from the black jokes that his role in this interview was to be the token black guy. It's always an uncomfortable feeling to realize that the people you're with only think of you in one dimension. I think Jordan got the impression that Colbert's or the audience's perception of the movie is that it's "The Black Movie" of the year. Jordan came prepared to talk about the movie and its themes in depth, but the interviewer never presented the opportunities to go any deeper than surface level stuff.

I loved the movie "Get Out" for sooo many reasons. It was the 1st black horror movie in my opinion that let the main character live & it had most if not all of the caucasian stereotypical view points in the movie. Get out had me intrigued from the beginning til the end, I've watched it several times & each time I've seen something I didn't see before. I'm so proud of Jordan Peele for directing something this awe inspiring & allowing his audience to go home with the attitude of the need to "wake up" b/c we have been asleep for too long. I'm anxiously awaiting his next work of art. I never would have thought Jordan was so serious that he could write something as mind blowing as "Get Out." I simply loved it & you Jordan Peele. ❤

Dry MouF Good call on Peele outwitting Colbert, I think that was the main cause of their tension. Colbert as the famous comedian host wanted to follow every funny thing Jordan said, but most of the time he just stalled and looked awkward. Colbert just isn't even in the same comedy league as Jordan Peele.

I'd have to rewatch it but sometimes the timing was off or certain things didn't make sense and took me out of it a little. I didn't like the ending how *spoiler* the friend miraculously saved him. That's the only specific thing I can think of right now though. I heard they have an alternate ending where the cops showed up instead, but I haven't seen it yet

I got the sense that he's been attacked for making a film having to do with race in the past. A large portion of the population are tired of race and he's probably been berated by some of his peers and fans for doing this. I get the sense that he's in the mindset of being attacked in this interview because maybe that's what he's used to but coming from a person with severe social anxiety I can see that now a little bit. A lot of great performers have anxiety and it can be weird or cringey to people who don't understand when they see them outside of their medium/comfort zone. Fans generally expect their favorite actors/comedians to keep the persona they have on stage/film/tv but it's not like that. Those are choreographed/rehearsed performances, a persona/character; not the true person that stands behind the mask. Just look at Mitch Hedberg and Jim Carrey for instance. I haven't seen Key or Peele outside of their comedy so idk how they're like when they're themselves which is why I assumed he was taking a defensive stance based solely on recent experiences. This makes me want to seek out more interviews with Key and Peele to see what they're really like when they're in their own skin.

You can see the passion and earnestness in him when he says it's his favorite movie that he'd never seen, and the movie black people had been waiting for. When great intelligence, great empathy, and incredible drive all combine into a single being, you get a true genius like Peele. And I do not feel like I'm overstating things. Whether it's as a writer, a comedian, or plain ole human being, this man has already greatly contributed to humanity as a whole as well as the national discourse on racism.

I loved hearing Jordan's, "This is the movie I never saw growing up." Makes a white person really think about it and realize how ostracizing TV and movies really are to people of color. Another slap of my white privilege. Thanks for opening my eyes, Jordan!

I’m in a African American Studies class that focuses on History in Racism and film & 80% of my class wrote about Get Out. We have sat down and dissected the entire thing, people are writing their dissertations on it. This movie has done so much and academically and historically. It’s impact is crazy

Love the referencing of night of the living dead. I still remember seeing it the first time sometime in the 90s and recognizing how ahead of its time it was given that the black dude was the true hero of the group. When he knocked out one of the white guys in the group for freaking out too much I was super shocked. Not expecting that from a film that old at all.

This seemed like a very unintentional contentious conversation, like they were trying to 1 up each other, or they weren't sure if the the other was being serious or going with the bit. I like the realness though instead of those boring pre-planned "Conversations"

I don't even know why I bother reading comments. Anonymity gives people undue bravado. I'm rootin' for everybody black. Get out was a great movie. Jordan Peele is incredibly talented. White people always get uncomfortable when race is brought up. Good for Jordan for being honest about his intentions. He deserved all the accolades he's received and more to come.

I agree, there's good and bad in all races. Never said one race was better than another. I root for everyone black because I'm black. If I were asian, I would root for everyone asian, as I expect them to (--Actually I root for all minorities in media, not enough of us). The movie wasn't saying any one race was better. Black people didn't come out on top in the movie, they just didnt die for once in a horror film. The majority race is not automatically threatened because a minority race isn't oppressed..

@M R There's a difference between him saying white people react a certain way, as in a generalized statement and all white people react a certain way as in a blanket statement. Why be defensive if it's not true? And Colbert is obviously joking, he would never seriously refer to himself as woke. They know each other from comedy central, Colbert is having fun with him, not seeking validation
