That’s the biggest insult you could say 😂 Chappell is the worst .. there’s a reason he suffered depression and went missing for nearly 17 years... Chappell did nothing but anti white skits... as a result he left a huge audience behind and divided himself from a potentially larger career... key and peel did it better and they equalise their black - white skits... unfortunately though... Jordan went off and made these movies that basically insinuate reverse racism... in my opinion he sunk too low and he could be a bigger director if he can put race aside...

They far surpassed them in the long term. To this day, you can describe them and people will laugh without any further context, like Monty Python sketches. Chapelle’s were very much of that time, and don’t hit as wide of an audience.

One thing that was very impressive and unique about Key & Peele was the cinematic aspect of the sketches. The sketches all felt like short films of their own with cinematic lighting and music, superb acting and filming on location. When Peele became a Director I was not surprised at all having watched his cinematic roots on Key & Peele.

When Conan mentions how Comedy and Horror have major similarities I always like to say that comedy and horror thrive when the creative is looking at the situation the main character is in and asks "Now how can I make this situation even worse for them?"
@bradylewis1037
@bradylewis1037 4 ай бұрын
Exactly. I look at horror as, what happens when comedy goes on too long and is taken to it's logical conclusions, and then after one becomes accustomed to these conclusions it becomes comedy again. There is this cycle of the two.

“Nope” really solidified Jordan’s skills in my mind. “Get Out” was a great premise but “Nope” had so many genius directorial choices that it puts him way higher on my list
@sliceserve234
@sliceserve234 3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure how to put this, and let me state that I am a huge fan of Jordan's work, but I could see as apparently you did some incredible flourishes of directorial skill in terms of what made it on to the screen, and that is a very difficult skill to acquire, but there is just something not smooth or not coherent or not realistic in almost how the entire movie (Nope) is set up. For example, at the beginning his father is killed from the coin dropping from the sky, and there is just no grief reaction or "oh my god my dad died" aspect in the script, and that type of "wait a minute, what the hell is up with these people" aspect continued throughout the film, and ultimately kept the film from being a true classic to my thinking. (I do think "Get Out" IS a classic.)

@@GregMuniz7 I would even have settled for a depiction of extended shock instead of grief, anything, but they just kill the character off and everything proceeds like nothing happened. I noticed Jordan was special in Mad TV, and I actually was a comedy snob at the time (despite being a teenager) and thought Mad TV was "lame" compared to the "intellectual" stuff I was watching like Late Night and TV Funhouse and Upright Citizens Brigade and Strangers with Candy. Jordan was an exception, like when he would play Montel Williams who would interview victims of abuse and get high at the same time for some reason, so much funnier than it sounds, and that is because it was ALL Jordan's incredible execution.

I am a sketch comedy fanatic, and in my opinion, Key and Peele is the greatest sketch show of all time. I have it above SNL, I Think You Should Leave, Monty Python, the Marx Brothers, and even the Chappelle Show. When I go back and watch Key and Peele episodes, I am amazed by the consistency of every sketch. We all remember Substitute Teacher and East/West Bowl, but I am always floored with how many classic sketches they string together in individual episodes. Everything is so well written, so well performed, and the last joke of every sketch is almost always the best, which is so incredibly difficult to do. Nothing but respect and gratitude for Jordan and Keegan.

I think talented comedians have a depth of understanding of the human condition in ways many others don’t, which is how they’re able to figure out what people will find funny. Which also gives insight into the other emotions. Drama, fear, sadness, etc. it’s why comedians tend to do drama well also. It’s why I’m not surprised at all that Peele is able to do horror so phenomenally.

The very first time I saw a Key & Peele sketch (the boxing press conference where Jordan plays an effeminate Mike Tyson-esque boxer) I was floored. Every single aspect was on point, it's impossible to not know you're watching something special. And they both played an such eclectic characters but you would never see anyone but the character they were in, they became each character and that is, besides the writing obviously, what made this such an amazing, unique and ultimately iconic show.

Among the late night shows Conan is the most brilliant because he chose to work indepedently aka self-employed but no offend to others late night show they're great service to us by entertaining us on cable tv although that job consume too much of their lives😅

The amount of restraint Matt had to not jump in as soon as they started talking about cinema is commendable

In terms of production value alone, K&P’s sketches were light years ahead of SNL and MADtv (especially Key and Peele’s time on there)

The Key and Peele Gremlins 2 sketch is always the one I bring up to people, lol. Anytime Gremlins 2 enters the conversation, it's all I can think of.

Bummer they recorded this back in November before they announced Jordan was working with Kojima on OD. Especially because Conan was in Death Stranding and it would just be cool to hear them talk about working with him.

It's 2024, I sincerely hope you all start sharing the complete VOD. There seems to be no valid reason not to adopt this practice. Following the standard approach, publish the podcast first and then release the full version on KZfaq a week later. What's holding us back from implementing this?

Sirius paid $150M for Conan‘s content and is a company built around audio content; the videos exist in service of that. They’re not a video company.

I do not say this lightly. Key & Peele are up there with Conway and Korman in terms of timing and execution of comedy in their sketches.

Peele once said in an interview that the difference between comedy and horror is the music. I think about that all the time.

I miss Key & Peele. The football lineup sketches were the best. They were friggin hilarious and would always just get so ridiculous and over the top. I also like when Jordan played a basketball referee on The Kroll Show which is another show I miss. You should have Nick Kroll on next.

The current NFL (and college) football lineup has now exceeded the Key & Peele skit. They thought they were taking it to an extreme level, but they were just identifying a point in time to be exceeded by actual names. The names today are way, way beyond that skit. Having said that, “A-Aron Rod-gers” is hard to beat…
