I thought I was young and invincible up until a near death experience at 32. I never thought about aging or growing old until then. Since then I quit drinking alcohol, eat well, exercise and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. I feel better han ever. I also appreciate life more and it takes less to make me happy. Time flies. Take care of yourself. Spend more time with your loved ones. They are the ones you think about when you think it is over.

"Mental hygeine" was also a phrase that Jung used, I believe in Aion, to describe the continual, necessary maintenance of our psyches. It's such a true, brilliant idea. Staying well put together requires constant effort, every day--or at least every week--for our entire lives, much like our homes and bodies require constant upkeep and cleaning. And all of which requires effort.

I work at a nursing home. So this is really amazing advice. (Well dialog) being intentional with our presence, knowing when and what to expect. It's easier on the emotional state of loss and grief. Looking at hard struggles and preparing for the worst, yet preparing not to have regrets. There's a song I like... "pest about pain, it's timeless and honest." The gravity of that hits different each time. Ty! I really am like a lobster lately. The pressure of an old shell has to be shed!

I wish I didn’t have depressive episodes. Even when I’m not in an episode, I feel boring and unlikeable. I want to break the cycle of loneliness and desperation by pursuing my career goals and putting myself out there socially, but it’s difficult when I’ve held the same self limiting beliefs for so long. I’m 24, about to be 25 in 4 months, and now I’m starting to realize how short life really is. I’ll keep fighting regardless, but in the back of my mind, it feels like I won’t be able to achieve the life that I envisioned for myself.

Many thanks for the pearls in this clip. I enjoy Chris' skill and eloquence as an interviewer and his astute and thought-provoking contributions very much. Re: effective exposure therapy as a catalyst for realizing that one is tougher than believed: I would argue that this result more likely arises from the gradual/piecemeal nature of properly implemented exposure therapy, together with the dominant traits of those who are most likely to have undergone such therapy and have taken part in a study that was published (i.e., veterans and first responders, who would presumably derive more self-esteem and validation from overcoming intense psychological stress, if we base that on the traits that led them to seek such vocations). As a follow-up Q, how do we know that those who emerge from such therapy with stronger psyches haven't simply further frozen their ability to feel and react emotionally, on a normal and human level, to horror? Where indeed is the 'normalcy' cutoff when it comes to exposure and recovery?

Damn realizing how we fail to unpack stuff, it's more powerful than just getting over what we ignored until now. It's more a power to kinda chose when you let grief and hardship in your life. Well yea the body will be more rotten in a week, but then again now I am already dealing with this, this and this, so maybe taking this body now will be worse than *choosing* to ignore it for a few days and take it 1 by 1. Since sometimes you might be hit from 20 sides, and just unpacking everything at once will do you no good.

Once you come close the facing your own mortality or that of your lived ones and those closest to you and are taken away, the grief and recognition of the fickle nature of life give you the realization of deciding what you choose to really matter to you in you life and what you want to not matter even in the face if pushing against conformity. That all your worries, your anxiety's didn't really matter because a life you shared with someone you held so dear is now gone. That's when it'll get real on you, and when I lose the question to people have you ever lost anyone that your the closest in the world with and they say no. I say Oh that is wonderful for one day our life and those in an around it may not or will not always be here,the uncomfortable truth needs to be allowed to come over us and gives us into being a little more grateful for people that actually care about you,for not everyone has that that entitled to, to care for another is within and tied to love.

You can calculate how many more hours you have to live. Depending on how old you are and what diseases you may get that could shorten your life, and how many hours you spend sleeping, that may be a smaller number than you realize. Don't waste your time in doing things that do not express what you value and who you are and what you enjoy doing. A stressful job may take hours away from your life if you die earlier because of it from heart disease related illness or even cancer caused by stress.

Something you can do while you're just lying down ☺️ I tend to listen to KZfaq vids like this while I'm doing other stuff and it usually feels enriching rather than a waste of time. Or maybe just slightly change what you're listening to, I like all the great and free tutorials on KZfaq and inspirational kind of videos like this. It's good to take time to rest, maybe just slightly alter what you're doing while you're resting. Good luck!!

After repairing my relationship with my Father, my Sister and Brother in law and getting to spend time with my Nephew. These Covid lock downs (bullshit I know, learning 2nd language to distract my self.) are really starting to hurt. For now I'm going to call my 82 year old Grandma and then my Sister. [Update] Wow. Got to talk to my Grandma, she still gets to see her boyfriend and is in good company and health. She was about to call me to see if I'm doing fine. Turns out her other grand child (far more successful then me) sends her funny pictures but nether have a smart phone. I'm going to swoop in and mail her funnycat.jpg. My sister is not getting the vaccine because it could trigger her MS that is in remission and she could lose the ability to walk or move her legs. Also its my Nephew's birthday (I forgot, was reminded by Grandma earlier) they went camping in that my Sister's Husband renovated. I know you wont read this but thank you Jordan Peterson and Chris Williamson. I would have not been this happy if I didn't feel a scene of urgency this evening.

What about eternity with your loved ones in heaven? Some religious guy said something like there is no midlife crisis for a believer, the only urgency is to repent from your sins, and in my orthodox faith there is a sin that consists in crying too much over your dead loved ones.

This is me. No sense of urgency whatsoever. I feel underachieved. I dream of a great life but im not taking the necessary steps into achieving that. I want to have a great relationship with the most beautiful girlfriend. But im not even putting myself in a position to meet beautiful women. Im a day dreamer who has zero motivation to take action. I hate on myself for being mediocre. I know i can be more than i am. However, my laziness is in the driver seat and i willingly submit to it. Idk if this is depression or im just a flat out loser.

Success is achieved though small incremental change over time. Start small now. Acknowledge and reflect briefly on the change and it will feel right. That feeling can sustain your initial motivation.

Life isn’t too short or too long. We came here to learn lessons and there is plenty of time to do so. In fact, it’s practically guaranteed because we play things out in the 3D space / time matrix of this world. So “time” is ALWAYS here and yet ALWAYS in motion towards fulfillment or destruction.

In the midst of the greatest crisis facing humanity- lockdown - Jordan Peterson - one of great thinkers of our time - has nothing to say on the issue. He avoids it like the plague (pardon the pun).
@JackHaveman52
@JackHaveman52 3 жыл бұрын
I'd say it's because he's dealing in ideas and not so much in specifics. We can try to change the specifics of the lockdown but until we do, we have to learn to live with it as it is. The learning to live with difficulty is what he's about. The lockdown is just an aspect of life, not a centrepiece.
@bikin2008

In the preface of his book he says he acknowledges the last year has been extremely difficult but the lessons and rules he speaks about can be applied now and post pandemic. Making something lockdown specific adds a certain shelf life to the messaging.

@@bikin2008 Or people will make the lockdown about his ideas and the ideas gets lost in specific agendas surrounding the lockdown instead of the broader topic. I’d love to see him confront the topic or be presented with an analysis on its effects, and respond to that. Peterson has a solid character. I wouldn’t say having a solid character is exactly the same as having a strong character, but he definitely has his moments when he gets confronted by malicious people. Anyone who’s unapologetically against lockdowns and makes taking care of themselves and their own their primary concern has a strong character.

I let the love of my life walk right out the door when I could’ve stopped her. She wanted me. For years, she wanted me and only me. She wanted to build a future with me. She wanted to have a family with me. I didn’t ever make plans with her, because I was immature, scared, and just wasn’t ready for all that. She moved on and married someone else and has a family now. The regret has crushed me, and I’ve never recovered from it. I’m crushed. How can I ever recover from this? I need help

Really gotta take the love and Hollywood rom-com self deluding fantasy out of it. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that a marriage is a mature, adult, compromising and most challenging partnership that exists. Trust me, you would not be lovey-dovey after the first 8 years, tops (in some cases 8 months). It would be forced date nights, counselling, etc. You have ‘one-itis”. Just curious, how old are you?

I'm not being flippant here, but it reminds me of a few song lyrics, and music always helps me find my way. "Part of the Plan" by Dan Fogelberg "I had a woman who gave me her soul But I wasn't ready to take it Her heart was so fragile and heavy to hold And I was afraid I might break it Your conscience awakes and you see your mistakes And you wish someone would buy your confessions The days miss their mark, and the night gets so dark And some kind of message comes through to you Some kind of message shoots through And it says to you Love when you can Cry when you have to Be who you must That's a part of the plan Await your arrival With simple survival and One day, we'll all understand" And another by House of Heroes "Angels of Night" "Sometimes love it hurts so much, You never wanna touch the stuff again, But baby itʼs the only way, You're never gonna outrun all the pain, You're gonna have to face it though, Before you let it go, Let it go."
