"Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today!" - Jordan Peterson
@phillyortho

@no name Seriously? His wife got a horrible medical diagnosis and he was taking a strong antidepressant as he realized he needed some help to cope. That drug has horrible withdrawal symptoms and he checked himself into rehab as he was wise enough to realize he needed help in getting off them. That's not drug addiction if you immediately seek help to get off a medication. Peterson is far from perfect, but he dishes out the best life advice I've ever heard. His knowledge of history and of clinical psychology along with his intelligence allows him to put into words certain truths of the world the average person has a hard time in expressing.

no name , are you pretending to be dumb? You have a problem with your medication's side effects so you check into rehab for 24hr care rather than continue self medication. So rather than carry on a facade you got some help -- and you call that not dealing with the problem? He was depressed, he got anti-depresants rather than be depressed and do and not do stuff like most depressed people, you call that not dealing with his problem? He takes his wife in his world speaking tour and based from what I have heard and see, he seems very dependent on his wife (which is a good partnership trait) and he got depressed when he thought his wife is dying based on preliminary medical results. So what are you saying, he cant be depressed when his important partner is dying? You seem to think people who like Jordan Peterson think he is some god-like figure. He is simply an individual, with individual problems and strength. He has a good message, because he spent years thinking about stuff he is sharing. But don't confuse the message from the individual. You are being a leftist prick if you do. You group people and categorise them. They are individuals with their own background, circumstances. He is dealing with his problems with his family's help. They rely on each other. They as a family are plagued with health problems, and in spite of it are still available inspiring people and earning rather than complain and demand money from the government. They are not a liability to people or tax payers, and that is good enough.

@no name His wife was diagnose with Cancer and was prescribes anxiety drug.Once his wife was told she beat Cancer ,he stop taking the drug cold turkey ..BIG mistake with that drug,it must be done gradually or the withdrawal is very bad. So rehab was necessary in this situation or it could potentially kill you.

I discovered Jordan P. at a harsh moment of my life in college. Most of the time I found myself telling me how much of a failure I was, how I was not worth the gifts and love that my family gave me. And being an introvert didn't help because I kept silent for a long time. Mr.Peterson taught me about self-respect, confidence and how to overcome the obstacles of life. Thank you, Jordan.

Simpletons take a critique, or even a question, to their hero, as a put-down of the person. Try Nietzsche: "When he had said that, his disciple shouted... "But I believe in your cause and deem it so strong that I shall say everything, everything that I can find in my heart to say against it.” The innovator laughed... "This kind of discipleship," he said, "is the best..."
@joshbarrett1020
@joshbarrett1020 4 жыл бұрын
I guess why people knock him, is not for his self help/psychological advice, its for when he starts talking about politics and areas outside of his expertise. His self help stuff is amazing, but hes often actually factually incorrect about allot of stuff he says outside of the sphere of psychology. No one is above criticism. Just because some one is correct about some things doesnt mean they are correct about every thing. His ideas on religion for example are really strange, he makes some really poor arguments for example "Atheists really believe in a god, and act as if they do" "A genuine atheist would be like Raskolnikov, the murderer in Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, motivated by “rationality” and uninhibited by any metaphysical reason to stop him from committing this act.” (Of murder) Just because some people have issue with some of the other things he says doesnt discount the good work he does in the area of self help. You can disagree or find fault in some of the things he says but still find value in the ways he has helped you. Every one is fallible, even Peterson.

@norton wayne Yes, you're right. It is best to air out the parts of the sheets/mattress that were collecting skin humidity and microscopic amounts of dander all night in the dark. Expose that part of the sheets to air to dry out completely, and if possible sunlight, dryness and UV destroys and helps prevent moulds & fungus from developing.

@Astaroth Ill informed people passing fake news about one of the greatest minds of our time. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Jordan is in rehab due to the use of clonazepam which is an anti-anxiety drug to deal with the stress from his wife’s battle with cancer. If you ever love someone to the point that you couldn't imagine life without them and they're going through a terrible illness then there's absolutely no doubt that you will become consumed by the possibility of the entire world falling down around you. If you think at the very least that this experience won't arouse an immense amount of anxiety then you're a fool. To have to deal with the thought of your wife's potential death whilst simultaneously holding yourself together for the rest of your family, to be the image of strength for those around you, you will look for any means necessary to keep yourself intact.

Elaine Gumenyuk I don’t know you personally. So I won’t act like I know what you’re going through, but I’ve been there. Stay positive and focus on your goals and don’t look back. I understand that you must hate yourself enough to hurt yourself but trust me that’s not going to help. You know what will? Making small daily goals and crushing them, start with small stuff like making your bed and then slowly start doing one good thing a day. Also watch videos like this and start reading.(maybe you already do) but just start working on YOU. Start exercising and eating clean. Trust me I’m an introvert person so I don’t really surround myself with a lot of people, so I’m constantly working on myself. I’m in my early 20s and I can say that I improve every day. Some days it’s 10% and there it’s only .01% but it’s something. I also can relate to feeling stupid but I can tell you have self awareness and that’s not something stupid people poses. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you find bliss.

I am 60 years old, just found him a few months ago, and he is helping me tremendously. When I asked my 29 year old son to listen to one of his lectures, he showed me a video of Dr. Peterson being condemned for being a "right wing extremist", and refused to watch anything of his. The left is so destructive. My son could benefit greatly from these teachings, but he won't even look.

Ali Colorado Being in my twenties, I can’t in my wildest imagination tell a senior what to do but I can suggest two possibilities : 1. Churn the meat and give it to him. Talk to him about the real life lessons you have come up with from listening to him without referencing Peterson. Like an enriched father-to-son conversation. Many of us young people crave this. 2. Show him what you have talked about without referencing Jordan. By doing that you’d have removed the ideological veil and he’ll find out what you have found out.

@Astaroth I understand your stance that's why I had always struggled with the label of being "Christian ", I felt other traditions were a little more clear in terms of actual actions to take to develop yourself and thrive in the real world. Once I began studying other traditions, science, and personal development I found the parables of the bible began to make sense and was saying the same thing all along. Now I am not as hard on the bible. Have you ever read Mathew? This video relates to the parables of talents Mathew 25: 14-30.

On the compound improvement part: If you do the math: If you improve by half a percent each day that will give you a 100% increase in 139 days. If you push that up to make yourself better by 1% each day (that's literally 1/100 of what is possible) you reach 100% increase in just 69 days (lol) At 10% each day it would only take 1 week. Keep that in mind. Small steps each day and no zero-days get you upwards infinitely better than doing nothing.

I'm not a big fan of Jordan, but this is pretty solid advice for people. The world average of impoverished people might have risen 50%, but why hasn't the same (or more) happened in the richest country in the world? People do need a little struggle in life to keep them strong, but when people have to struggle to survive it doesn't make them stronger. More often than not it stifles them from ever being remotely their best self. When people fall down too far, they aren't capable of lifting themselves up. Especially of people with certain temperaments. If people are strong (in a good place) they should offer a hand to lift people up, because they are the only ones capable of doing it. The main problem is society's arbitrary assessment of whom is a victim of circumstance and whom not only isn't, but should also be condemned for their unavoidable circumstance. No child is afforded a choice of parental or environmental influence in which made them who they have become. It is easy to blame, but harder to understand, when we had different influences in our lives. We are all a product of our environment, so if we don't like some products, we should stop blaming the victims of circumstance and focus on addressing the environmental contributing factors. Jordan is correct, people are at different levels of consciousness and awareness.
