I agree on some points by Doctor Peterson and respectfully disagree with other points. The premise that Conservatives share a theme with Hitler, known as 'Disgust', is radical. Many conservatives believe in the mantra, 'Don't fix it, if it isn't broke'. Conservatives prefer to preserve many conditions that seem peaceful yet productive. Cleanliness and an orderly way of operations is not a symptom of disgust. It's not a neurotic condition. It's the best way to avoid contamination and be able to perform better at tasks.

@user-lb8mq3fu9t
@user-lb8mq3fu9t 28 күн бұрын
They were nationalists first. Like many conservatives. And it's no coincidence, that the German conservatives helped elect Hitler as a chancellor after his party scored only 32% of votes at the last free election in 1932, far from a majority. Later it was also the German conservatives whose votes in parliament made Hitler a dictator by voting for the "Ermaechtigungsgesetz", that empowered Hitler to make laws without having the German parliament to vote on it to become binding. On the other hand it were the German communists and socialists who tried to resist nazism, but the historic treason by the German conservatives allowed Hitler to outlaw communists and socialists to make his movement the sole authority in Germany. German conservatives only started to resist later on (July 20, 1944), not to fight nazism and its crimes, but as a desperate effort to avoid total defeat for Germany, which was looming because the nazis refused to try to negotiate with the allies for an armistice when it became clear that the war was already lost. Before that the German conservatives were accomplices to the crimes of the nazis, with very few laudable exceptions like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the members of "weisse Rose" and a few Wehrmacht officers. By the way.....the socialist wing of the Nazi party was destroyed during the "night of the long knifes" in 1934, when Hitler made good on his promise to his conservative financiers and helpers to rid his party of everything they saw as a threat to their property rights, basically of anything that smelled somewhat "leftwing".

Even just watching tv shows where people don't bathe for days and are dirty and sweaty, or people kissing, etc. can make me slightly nauseated. Luckily I did not become like Hitler, or anywhere near that way. I know he was abused as a kid and then did not make it as an artist, but I would like to know more in depth what made him the way he was. Not that there is any excuse, but it's interesting to know.

Yeah I wouldn't be worrying that if you're disgust-sensitive you may be connected to someone as odious as Hitler. It's more the other way around, "if you are Hitler, therefore you are disgust-sensitive". It was just one element of his psyche. As the lecture progresses, it seems to describe the progressive movement in the United States today. The way of removing any form of civil debate by labeling the other side as an “ist” if they disagree with the party view. The depravity forced down our throats from every news outlet, the removal of any moral standard except those chosen by the party. History is bound to repeat itself as it has for thousands of years.

I mean, personally, I haven't read it yet, but I'm not talking about it in front of an audience. How can he know if he disagrees with him if he doesn't read anything besides simplified work for barely literate people, like the Communist Manifesto? Also, Peterson is like the idea of a smart person for stupid people, constantly talking about the three authors he knows - Nietzsche, Jung, and Dostoyevsky. It's boring; go read Plato again, Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, Schopenhauer, Hegel, etc. His knowledge of philosophy is at the level of a 20-year-old student. In my opinion, he's a decent psychologist but started pretending to be some intellectual guru. Sadly, modern people don't read at all, so compared to scrolling social media, he's better. But that's not sublime

I’ve just watched a couple of documentaries about the Nazis from the SS perspective. Fascinating. What I’ve learned from my own research (since discovering I had both Jewish and non-Jewish German ancestry on my mother’s side), is that the movement appealed to Germans because they believed in a proud, nationalistic society (hence, National Socialism) and they felt Jews and other “contaminating” influences were bad because they were either international communists or international socialists who were anti-nation (like ‘globalists’ today), or individualist capitalists who only cared about money, who had no regard for their impact on society and, especially, the nuclear family. The truth is that, for all the horrors of Nazism, we’ve lost something in our telling of their perspective, which is that they made *some* valid points. Globalism IS bad, international communism IS dangerous and capitalism without conscience DOES harm. In not in any way justifying the racist nastiness and the evil of Mengele et al. But to fail to try to see the other side, even Nazis, is to fail oneself. All of us need to understand our enemies, perhaps even more than our friends.

Peterson picks themes in which he's no specialist and feelnfree to give his opinion or even assertions. He's got no idea about the German and the soviet, no idea about the history of religion. He even seems to not have grasped completely what jung was modeling. Defending the rights of the Canadian people publicly was something good he's done. But damn, he feels he can talk about everything apparently getting information from Wikipedia. Wikipedia is better. He argues vaguely on the importance of Dostoevsky. I doubt how much he could have understood without knowledge of their culture and language. And what translation did he get! I saw him interviewing Penrose. He did follow anything he said and he had again false opinions from the implications of his work. It was embarrassing for him. You should watch it

Does anyone else think, as researched as he is on this topic, that not all the differences between liberals and conservatives makes sense to make? I know they researched people who identified one way or the other, but these categories keep changing and some people switch parties like it’s nothing. Seems like the research might be true at one time but then might not be true later. It’s hard to buy that there really is so much difference when you split the whole population into only two parties. If the politics was split into far-right, right, center, center-left and left, then maybe you could make some assumptions about the people at the radical ends. It’s just hard to think you can make out sweeping statements on the moderate right and left, when they tend to agree on a lot. Anyone else know what I mean?
@user-th3ll8rl7i

The problem with Petersen is that he sees politics through the lens of personal psychology, which is logical considering he is a psychologist. Psychology is useful in examining how politicians manipulate people, but not in actually understanding power. Noam Chomsky goes into this. The politicians are just the front men, real power is behind the scenes, but that's another story.

Creating borders restricts room for higher understanding also, it puts limitations onto our learning, that's why Hitler killed himself in the end, he overimagined the outcome and kind of scared himself to death, he didn't see that he'd created his own downfall in the end, just as well really, he wasn't an intelligent man by the true meaning of the word, the one thing he did good was to be a blueprint for idiocy that people could make reference to in the future!
