Professor of psychology Dr. Jordan B Peterson talks about why he married his wife and how they met.
Full Length Q&A: June 1 2017 Patreon Q & A (#2 in a monthly series)
Jordan Bernt Peterson is a Canadian clinical psychologist, cultural critic, and professor of psychology at the University of Toronto. His main areas of study are the psychology of religious and ideological belief, and the assessment and improvement of personality and performance.
He earned a degree in political science in 1982 and a degree in psychology in 1984, both from the University of Alberta, and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from McGill University in 1991. He remained at McGill as a post-doctoral fellow for two years before moving to Massachusetts, where he worked as an assistant and an associate professor in the psychology department at Harvard University. In 1997, he moved to the University of Toronto as a full professor.
Dr. Jordan B Peterson has been a dishwasher, gas jockey, bartender, short-order cook, beekeeper, oil derrick bit re-tipper, plywood mill labourer and railway line worker. He’s taught mythology to lawyers, doctors and businessmen, consulted for the UN Secretary General’s High Level Panel on Sustainable Development, helped his clinical clients manage depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and schizophrenia, served as an advisor to senior partners of major Canadian law firms, identified thousands of promising entrepreneurs on six different continents, and lectured extensively in North America and Europe.
He has flown a hammer-head roll in a carbon-fiber stunt plane, piloted a mahogany racing sailboat around Alcatraz Island, explored an Arizona meteorite crater with a group of astronauts, built a Native American Long-House on the upper floor of his Toronto home, and been inducted into the coastal Pacific Kwakwaka’wakw tribe.
With his students and colleagues, Dr. Peterson has published more than a hundred scientific papers, transforming the modern understanding of personality, and revolutionized the psychology of religion with his now-classic book, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief. As a Harvard professor, he was nominated for the prestigious Levinson Teaching Prize, and is regarded by his current University of Toronto students as one of three truly life-changing teachers.

Sexy Vegan well were not gonna rewarded this with an answer but what the hell. In pre islamic times Arab saw women as property and they saw that their use will only be after they hit puberty for this reason they started to count womens age after they hit puberty. It is known that a girl in arabia generally hit puberty between 9-12 which means she was 18-21 years old that time. Also muhammeds first wife was 40+ years old. He was noble and got known well because of him keeping the high arab values. So he was a desired spouse but he choose a woman that is way older than him. And never got married again until she dies. So use common sense

Sex culture, promiscuity, multiple partners, infidelity, lies, the "you can always get divorced" attitude, the single lady anthem of feminism, the welfare advantage of single motherhood. Morals are on the decay because they are hateful to people who don't like judgement. The happiest marriages have less sexual partners, and id bet less relationships before the spouse. It makes a difference. Statistics and various studies prove it. So do nursing homes. Old people with children and grand parents are not the grumpy old people, nor are they bitter about death. Life always has meaning, and building all that with one person is an experience like pregnancy, so personal and special. When you think of that person you basically think of everything you have and built in this moment. It can bring tears to your eye that level of joy and pride. Stay prude kids, it's severely underrated and I truly believe that's intentional.

Yeah man's REALLY loves his wife. When she got cancer, the guy pretty much had a breakdown and took benzos; which a professional prescribed. He was so disrepair and distraught that he tried to go off then cold turkey with no weaning; which is extremely dangerous. His daughter had to get him to Russia via an aesthetician to try some experimental treatment to have him under while they have him some kind of shock therapy; something to get him off the symptoms of withdrawals. The story is so surprising but they both are much better nowadays.

Whats crazy is that if you listen to the story of him and his wife they really didn't know what they were doing until they were about 25. Then decided to get their acts together and started doing the things everyday that reinforce those values. It's a process for them and this love they feel and display is a BYPRODUCT. JP is very clear on that when we talks about how him and his wife communicate. It's inspiring me to stop relying on love with my wife and focus more on the actual daily things that makes the relationship work. It's working amazingly

@pedromeneses5661 6 жыл бұрын
We aren't assholes, most men just want a break from the feminism political shit and live happy, but feminists do not seem to want happiness for men, or women for that matter. Marrying our childhood crush and having a lasting happy marriage is every man's dream, (most) women's dreams don't coincide with men's im afraid, hence why so many marriages end (about 75%)
@pedromeneses5661
@pedromeneses5661 6 жыл бұрын
Men are more likely to cheat? That is just BS, we all know women cheat as much if not more than men nowadays, we don't live in 1960 anymore, women also want the best partners for them, if their current partner is worse than another bloke, they will just as easily move on to another, leaving their man in the dust. It's much easier for women to recover from a cheating marriage than it is to a man, when a man cheats, it's the man's fault, and when a woman cheats, it's still the man's fault, because he wasnt a good husband or lover, see the double standards here? And meanwhile, the man grows depressed and the woman moves in a couple months, is that fair biologically? of course not. Is it reality, it unfortunately is, but women ignore it because fuck men and their feelings
@pedromeneses5661
@pedromeneses5661 6 жыл бұрын
You can't possible gather global stats from the whole western society, when men cheat, it's a win-lose situation for the woman, when women cheat, it's a lose-lose situation for men, that's my point, the men who stay faithful to their women only then to be cheated on have a much rougher period of time when they are likely to get depressed, lose their jobs and the commit or try to commit suicide, it's a very common theme, and I believe this is why men aren't looking to get married anymore, it's beneficial to the woman in every way possible, both biologically and legally, is just sitting on top of a time-bomb waiting to explode, that's going to blow 50% of him instantly and the other 50% gradually, leaving him with nothing at all. That's why more cases of men cheating come out on court, but less when women cheat because on court the men are at a very big disdvanatage, only in extreme cases like almost murderous violence are they heard, if not, they are ignored and the woman is congratulated for not putting up with a weak provider. Does this ring a bell? In the cases where men cheat, how many of those women end up killing themselves? Barely none, women's suicide rate is non existant compared to men. Why? Because women don't have the burdens of being a man, and are not expected to provide, that's the problem. I say marriage needs to stop until these problems are fixed, being a man and wanting marriage is an awful idea, men are setting themselves up for disaster here, hence why the marriage rate has sunk and is continually sinking
@pedromeneses5661
@pedromeneses5661 6 жыл бұрын
Then let's stop marriages, if women don't need men anymore whats the point of having a husband, just get impregnated by the man of the woman's choosing and be done with it, if women think they can live without men, then they should do so, for the sake of everyone, they get to prove to themselves that they can be single moms better than men can, and men don't get emotionally destroyed, it's a win-win situation is it not? Men don't need to provide for a single woman, men as you said only want to spread their seed around, and women are the ones who provide for the children, the only thing men want is to be better than other men, that's the point, men want to show other men that they can get more than them, it's the whole point of sexual competitivity in the human species. Successful women have proved that they can raise children on their own now, so why bother getting married if they don't need anyone to provide for them? Leave the women who need providing for us men to provide for, and successful women get impregnated and then leave peacefully without men oppressing or bothering them, seems to me like a good solution.
@pedromeneses5661

It may be not, but there are some women who will cover under the façade that is feminism to get female privileges, this is why feminism is dangerous for men, not because of the ideology itself, but because of the people that are behind said ideology, their actions many times don't coincide with their words

taking the husbands name is a tradition, and wether you like it or not, it makes it seem like the two people are actually family, when they have the same last names, it's kind of a psychological thing, but having the same last name as someone else, really does make a difference when rough times come, when you can set your differences because you are family, my mom took my fathers last name, and they've been married for 30 years by now. I would actually want to see a study to see how many marriages fail when one of the partners doesn't take the other partners name, and to see how manny marriages fail when they choose to have the same last name. Would be an interesting study

it's so lovely to see the clear love in his eyes when he talks about his wife and what a beautiful thing that this was clear to him since he was five. i stop and think about what this guy has taken on with his crusade and the need to stay so focused not just because he is evolving his thoughts in front of people (which takes guts) but also because there are so many people (the majority i would suggest) who do not listen to what he says because they are only intent on blindly trying to pull him down. it must be exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. more power to him and, as i said, how lovely to see him lit up like this.

Unless your bulge is enormous it won't impress her much anymore if she's played "croquet" to often. Not that it's what impressed her intially, but the romance of someone being close in a way has probably died down for a women by 28 if she followed the pack.

Wow.....that really warmed my heart. It is really something special to see one in "love" lets say and it worked out the way we all hope for. The smile on Jordan face and the look in his eyes as he talks about his wife is beyond beautiful. The exact opposite happens when a man relates his tale of a crumpled and devastated marriage, wish I didn't know that so well.

I thought I were romantic, but for sure I also were depressed. Then I realized I'm too romantic to handle my depression, and too depressed to handle life. Both were consequence of somewhat traumatic experiences, but I grew up around traumatized people who didn't really talk about their daily experiences, or just spit the general truth. Time came where being depressed, romantic or traumatized weren't enough of an excuse for being not that social of a creatute, so I had to learn the smalltalk and how to speak properly without attaching an emotional load. Not that I did in the past, I still am learning how to release emotions that made me apathic on the outside, but now I'm seeing people of my age actually learning how to speak out their problems. They've grown up to realize the amount of trust they can safely disclose amongs their peera, and I actually can see them struggle by the disappointment, even if it is behind an 'it's alright' smile. But from what I still can see, people generally avoid personalities that blatantly inform their 'more extreme' character nature or status. I think the learning curve of moving personally emotional topics with the correct emotional load openly is what I'm trying to describe here. Also the speed of speech isn't adjacent to the information; but that's when emotions speak, and it indeed is an awkward emotion when you're trying to inform the other person on your intellectual conclusions. Now that I think of it, I can't blame myself for categorizing the collective I had become familiar with, but should really work on actually placing a name for it. It can feel uncomfortable to read this message of mine if you share similar thoughts or have been through alike situations, but if that is the case, my message is, you can always broadly leave me a message if you want to discuss something that you've categorized as trivial in the eyes of 'your collective'. If you do it sincerely, the sincerity counts. If you do it honestly, that counts. And if you're waging it already, it means it's inportant enough to start with something vague, to gain and estimate a level of trust, or speak in a metaphorical matter. I should remind myself that if I want to discuss something important, yet, of a certain taboo, it can be diacussed metaphorically, even if the metaphors can be decoded and if the message receiver is able to recover my issue by pin pointing it amongst his own observed truths. I can always rely on different people to ask them only pieces of the puzzle, to decentralize the issue, and still gain a collective opinion. But the most important part is: I can ask silly questions to many people, and they'll never realize the context I had found simply by doing so. I'll summarize it by saying: don't be afraid to ask stupid questions to the people you trust. They'll either provide you an answer unknowingly digging deeper into it, or just shrug it off with an irrelevant one. That's how we learn trust. With small things.

The boy of my childhood never loved me 😢 I grew up believing I would marry my best friend or childhood companion. But I wasn't blessed... years passed, he married, had children. The last time I saw him, we met on the street in my hometown by accident, nearby our school. I didn't know he was still living there. He recognized me and said: "your voice didn't change in all these years". And gave me that beautiful smile w/ his bright blue eyes staring at me as if we had been always in touch. It was amazing to see him again. It brought me so beautiful memories! But I guess he will never know that I loved him for so many, many years. 😭😢 God didn't bless me with a love like that 😢💔 Jordan Peterson is really blessed, but I guess he already knows that. 😉

I have a similar story. I fell in love with a girl in Kindergarten. I loved her all throughout school. I'd always been fat with 0 self confidence. I lost weight my senior year. During the week of graduation, we were having a party at the park. She had been drinking a little, and in front of some of her friends called me "the smartest bastard she ever knew". That's pretty cool, right? Gave me a nice sip of confidence. So, later that night, there was a dance at the basketball court. I saw her and was finally, after 12 years, going to make my move. AS I WAS WALKING UP TO HER, her ex-boyfriend came over and they started dancing really close. They're married and have kids.

Hell's favorite angel Mike, your seething rage and verbal abuse against random women (your terminology suggests you have possibly been brainwashed by sextist mgtow thinking) says a lot about you. I'm guessing you are either a narcissist or you have unresolved issues stemming from past hurt or failures. Your anger hurts you more than anyone else. When you fail to understand the source of your anger (and deal with it in a mature way) you only perpetuate the never ending cycle of negativity you find yourself in. To gain respect and love from others you need to respect yourself first. If you spew out hatred you will receive it back. You can be better and do better but that is something you have to choose for yourself. Only you can be responsible for your personal growth and happiness. I hope you find peace.

They started with a solid foundation even before becoming a couple. Growing up together in a small town created a familial bond and strong loyalties. It reminds me of the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life". My parents and grandparents had much the same situation and they remained contently monogamous throughout their lasting marriages. Thankfully they were unaffected by sexual experimentation and gender distortions. Being supported by extended family and lifetime friendships was another advantage. Our current fragmented society is a sad consequence of the 1960s sexual revolution and the feminism which was forced on females. To be happy again, we need to return to traditional values and the genders need to assert their natural roles. "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world."

I didn't take my husband's last name and it doesn't have anything to do with feminism. My last name symbolizes my family's lineage and our journey through history. I owe a lot to my parents for all of the sacrifices they have made for me. Changing it would be like erasing my history and losing part of my children's identity. Changing my name was not even something that was considered or occurred to me. It is part of who I am, and I carry it with me proudly. If a man told me he wouldn't marry me if I didn't change my last name, I would know that he had no substance to him and was not worthy of me or anyone with principles and dignity.
