His talent is godlike. All the guys in dream theater are totally amazing. The tightest band I've ever heard. I have the dream theater dvds, score celebrating 20 years, chaos in motion, and live at luna pier with the new drummer mike mangini, record holder over 1200 beats a min. Love mike portnoy still. You just cant compare the 2. Back to Jordan though, his composed pieces have brought tears to my eyes. Talened people like that come once in a lifetime. For anyone out there who will listen, those DVDS are a must have. It'll leave ya speechless. If I ever got the chance to meet any of those guys I'd probably have a heart attack. Thank you Dream theater for all the amazing music that has blessed my life

Jordan is such a genius. Every dumb comment about what ‘he does not do’ is irritating. When one can play like Jordan, anything musical is achievable. It’s people like Jordan and Guthrie Govan that take us into realms of music previously unrealized.

One thing I want to point out is that people like Jordan have the luxury of spending so much time messing with all this new gear because he's already technically adept and able to write amazing music. Of course there's nothing wrong with noobs or intermediates doing this as well, but I recommend doing it in moderation. And the reason is because it's incredibly easy to spend too much of your time getting lost in finding the best gear and learning how to use it. Don't be one of those people who spends their time arguing over analog vs digital in the forums when you really should be spending that time practicing. Just focus on writing and recording good music WITH WHAT YOU HAVE. Find something that allows you to achieve good tone and that has the features you absolutely need, then spend your time working on your technique and writing.

Rusty Shackleford I think my problem is that I'm a pianist, but I've got five guitars, drums, a pair of bass guitars, a dozen keyboards, percussion and various orchestral instruments. I also have tons of studio gear that goes to each instrument. And I actually try to maintain it all and keep it in good shape. Half of it is stored with family and friends. I spent everything I earned since middle school and barely ate food while in university. The idea was that I'd provide my band with instruments and a place to practice, because I come from a home of scarcity, in a neighborhood with friends who couldn't afford such things. Of course, by the time I'd acquired a band's worth I was no longer playing in a band, my friends had moved on, my time was limited by studies and interests had changed. So now I'm basically living in a condo together with a zoo of musical history. And I can't play shit, because I spent all my time trying to figure out how stuff worked and how best to afford anything. I'll probably end up donating it to a children's music institute or something. I prefer listening over playing today anyways. Such a wasted youth...

Into a career defined only by your ambition. Thank you sir. For the beautiful tones.

So giving of his time. All the videos he's put out to help anyone who will spend the time to listen. Not boastful, prideful. He knows he's gifted and is using said gift to share his music. I would guess he doesn't sleep much. I've only met him in videos on KZfaq and he appears to be a caring, humble, sincere individual. Behind closed doors he might be the raving lunatic taking control of any situation....but I doubt it. How many musicians do you know of that spends this much time doing demonstrations, touring, writing apps for IOS, writing books, developing new instruments, is married, recording, etc...and still takes questions and will do a meet and greet afterwards? Really? Some may not like his music but you have to admire his dedication, if not, you're missing the boat. 17/8 time signature....could you count that for me please? LOL. And "he lacks heart and soul"...well then...go listen to whatever it is that turns you on but do it over there. This is a different kind of musician. Perhaps most of us don't quite understand, and that's fine. But until you try to attempt playing a keyboard please understand, it takes decades to get to this point and for me, I'm glad he's still doing it. He said it a few times...passion.

@@jolteon43 - An obviously amazing musician and a man with a good sense of humor. I did get the chance to meet Jordan in New York City. We happened upon the same street corner and i recognized him immediately. i thought rather than impose, i would have bit of fun. I asked Jordan, "Say, have I ever seen you out playing in a piano bar or karaoke maybe?" - I asked with a smile, sending the message that I knew exactly who he was. Rudess replied, also with a smile..."Why yes, I think you might have."..and with that, we parted.

Very good, of the best as a keyboardist and musician, I interpreted by myself a person who is wrong with the evolution and his musical interpretation in which he must do it as a group with other musicians. My admiration for his interactive level and a great applause. ..But I am going well on the path of the evolution of things like Disc Jockey, Musician, Composer, Soloist of modern musical devices and at the time of combining them through advanced MIDI and the evolution of modern music doing Direct Sessions with their own songs and intrepetandolos live and direct, playing, mixing, combining, mutating, etc ... My dear friends I cheer with all things and let's all go with joys and congratulations ... to dance everyone ...

I found a little piece of this interview quite interesting - 42:30 - from an introspection perspective. Jordan talks about how his vision about the Rock music world was blurred by the years of musical training he had, where rock musicians were seen as lower grade or less talented and therefore not something he wanted to achieve thus denying his own nature. Luckily he figured it out and me too!

I liked it too, if only because I've always viewed rock and metal as highest form good music could take lol. I always saw classical pieces, jazz, and even hip hop and saw that metal could perfectly incorporate all into one, and I fell in love. Finding my own voice with music has been hard, but a jazzy-black metal was the sound I came to create. I figured out something different, that all music is equal, even if I don't like it. I aspire to be seen as a good musician, not a rock star or a rapper etc etc. I'm glad you reached an epiphany of your own, and even more glad that you found your own voice! Keep it up!
