Today, we present a bonus episode to the now concluded Jordan Versus Fleer Series. What this video will consist of will be 15 cards from the 1988 Fleer unboxing that I sent over to PSA to get graded. These cards had the best potential for investment return. Elected to utilize my free 15 card submission you get when you join the gold club over at psacard.com.
Did not get a Gem 10 sadly, however, I feel I did do just fine considering the cards are almost 30 years old. Watch all the way to the end as I examine the differences between a Jordan #17 base and the Sticker #7 card to different grades. This may help you be better inform if you wish to delve into sending your cards to PSA to get graded. Please like and SUBSCRIBE!

That's the bad thing with PSA, any grade under a 10 and it's a guessing game as to why. I've seen PSA 10's that were off centered. With BGS you know why.

Yes. Especially now that PSA has increased the cost and GREATLY increased the turnaround times, it is imperative that consumers know what the process is before sending cards in. If it is not going to increase the sell price of your cards greatly, don't bother. You'll lose money every time. Thanks for the sub!

cards2diecast4 definitely money to be made on grading with psa or bgs. The key is to send in bulk to get that price per card down. The problem is most people dont have the time or the money to do this. I know people who send in 500 card orders and have crushed it over and over but I dont have that kind of time or willing to invest that much

Nice vid. I’ve never sent anything for grading. Does PSA send u any info telling u why each card was graded at the score they got? Would be good to know exactly wut the grader thought when grading the cards. What’s the lowest value should someone consider when sending cards for grading? I know grading isn’t cheap. Finally, have u ever wondered if cards ever get swapped by grading company? Show the video of u cracking open those novice low grade cards. Great content and keep it up.
@cards2diecast4

Thanks for the comment and questions! PSA does not provide any info as to why a card gets a specific grade outside of labeling a card with a qualifier. Qualifiers include (ST) Stained, (MK) Marks, (OC) Off-Center, (PD) Print Defect, (OF) Out of Focus and (MC) Miscut. Having a qualifier automatically eliminates a GEM MINT 10 grade. A MINT 9 can be achieved with a qualifier, however, it can kill the value greatly. PSA will provide you a rejection code in the event they send you a card back ungraded/unslabbed. One example where a rejection code is given, but, your grading fee will NOT be charged is a N-8 Miscut code. This code tells you the factory miscut the card so badly that PSA won't grade it. Another rejection code where PSA WILL KEEP your grading fee is a N-3 Evidence of Recoloration code. This code tells you that PSA believes the card in question was artificially recolored. If you are truly concerned with getting info about why a card got the grade it did, Beckett does offer you the choice to have your card graded WITH OR WITHOUT Subgrades. If you choose getting subgrades, then it will usually run you an extra 5-10 bucks, but, they will give you four subgrades and a final grade. The sub-grade sections are centering, edges, corners and surface. One example would be getting a card with sub-grades of 9, 9, 9.5 and 9.5 will give you a final grade of 9 MINT. Recently, I have sent in cards to Beckett as their turnaround times are guaranteed if you pay for the 2, 5, 10 or 20 day services. (NEVER USE THEIR NON-GUARANTEED OFFER. IT MAY BE A YEAR BEFORE YOU GET YOUR CARDS BACK). However, their slabs are too bulky for me. PSA's slabs are thinner and more appealing to me. With that said, the value of the card is secondary to turnaround times. Apparently, both Beckett and PSA are swamped with back orders as getting your cards graded is very fashionable right now. As such, the cost to get cards graded have risen greatly, especially with PSA. Turnaround times have increased as well. The basic turnaround time with PSA went from 15 to 25 days for this year. 8-day service went from 45 to 75 dollars. The faster services has increased as much thousands in some instances. If you are grading a card to maximize profit for sale, you might have to utilize Beckett's guaranteed turnaround time. PSA DOES NOT guarantee their turnaround times. I have 55 dollars in vouchers from PSA due to late orders. One order was a 15 day turnaround which took 33 days to finish. The other was a 40 day order which to 80. Mind you, these are BUSINESS DAYS and not calendar and does not include the time it took for the order to register in the computer after delivery. Turnaround time is critical because if you have the hot rookie card of the year and you want to sell, you need to grade the card quick. If the rookie was the be hot during the first half of the season, then get injured for the rest, the value of the card will drop. Therefore, if you waiting on PSA to get their asses moving on your card, it may be too late to maximize on your investment. Injured player = injured profits. On the other hand, if you just want to grade for the sake of getting maximum protection for your personal collection cards, then it shouldn't matter too much if you have to wait 4-5 months for PSA to grade your card at the slowest speed because they are just going back into your PC whether they are star cards or just standard base hits. With that said, EXPECT DELAYS with PSA. Even accelerated service turnarounds are still showing up late. Finally, do cards get graded by one company, then broken out and re-graded with another company? Absolutely! Just checkout the population report for the 2000 SP authentic #118 tom brady card. PSA has a total of 532 of those cards graded. However, when you got to Beckett there are 937 of those cards graded. 537+937=1469. That #118 Tom Brady card was only stamped up to 1250. So either one of two situations is going on here. Either Upper Deck lied and made more than 1250 of those cards - OR - what is going on is that, for example, someone got GEM MINT 9.5 from Beckett and decided to break the card out of the case to send it into PSA to get a GEM MINT 10. That .5 grade difference could possibly equate to THOUSANDS of dollars in profit. I do have a video of me breaking a beckett slab to send it into PSA to try to get a gem mint 10, however, I think I deleted the video by accident. There's a few videos I know here on youtube that show you how to do it. However, be careful. You can damage the card easily. I damaged a 1988 Dale Earnhardt Rookie autograph pretty bad by breaking a PSA slab to send it to Beckett because of the way the case snapped. It is best to leave valuable cards in the case and do a crossover service with Beckett or PSA and let them break the slabs.

Which would you rather have, a 9 oc or an 8? Would you buy a 9oc if you looked at it and thought, 'That's not really off center."?
@cards2diecast4
@cards2diecast4 4 жыл бұрын
Solid numbers will almost always hold value better than qualifiers. I think when people see a 9(oc) they sometimes break the clamps out and try to break the card out to get it either re-graded by PSA or send it to Beckett for a solid number. I've gotten out of the stick and ball card game because it is way too over hyped and expensive. However, if I was still in the market for some hits, I'd personally stay away from qualifiers unless I just wanted a graded card to fill a slot in a set and nothing more. Thanks for the comment!

grading cards for vintage cards are needed. many collectors or people who are in it for the money fail to realize that grading company is just a third party OPINION. i like that grading companies make sure the card is authentic and hasn't been altered or trimmed. though word is out that many altered or trimmed cards have made it through the PSA grading. grading the newer stuff is ridiculous though.

The Wagner t206 was nothing compared to the shams those companies pulled on people! Ebay and PCWW, and PSA, Beckett, and SCG! All are in on the sham my friend they have graded hundreds of thousands of card's that were trimmed, Altered or fakes or reprints. Those companies also switch peoples cards out. I sent a mj 86 fleer into them and they sent me back a competently different card back my card had hand writing on it. Someone put thier initials on back. How much does it cost to grade the cards on psa ?
@cards2diecast4
@cards2diecast4 6 жыл бұрын
www.psacard.com/fees/ PSA increased the cost to grade over the new year and, as of this posting, are currently bombarded with submissions making it a much longer process to get your cards back. At this point, I would only recommend one send in cards that are rare and have market re-sell value or need card/autograph authentication . Never send in cards just for the sake of having them slabbed. Just buy a mag touch if the card is valuable just to you. The business has changed to where its not worth it anymore. After this last round of NASCAR cards come in, I'm pretty much done with grading cards and cards in general. It was fun, but, collecting has lost the enjoyablity factor. Anyway, a quick example: Lets say you have two Jordan cards you want to send in. One card is a raw authentic Fleer rookie. The other is a 1993 Upper Deck base card. Let's say you believe your raw rookie card is valued at $1000 RAW (not what you think it will cost after grading). The 1993 Upper Deck base you know raw is only $2. Based off of your declared values (which are values you decide, but, be realistic - insurance is based off of declared value) the Jordan rookie has to be sent express 5-day turnaround at $95 plus shipping to and back. The base upper deck card should be sent under regular 10-day turnaround service. The crappy part is that you can send both cards can be sent to psa in the same box, but, you have to separate them and generate different order forms because the two cards are being processed under different turnaround times. Therefore, you will have to pay different return shipping costs as well. As of this video, minimum shipping fees are $18. The Jordan card will likely cost $20-24 for return shipping because it costs more to insure it. So back to my point, the cheap 1993 upper deck base jordan which costs only 2 dollars at most on eBay, to have that card graded at the cheapest single card submission rate, would cost you around 7 to 9 dollars to ship to psa, $20 to grade, then $18 to have it shipped back to you for a grand total of, at minimum, $45! DONT GRADE CHEAPIES!!!! Even more of a shame is that lets say you ship your cards on the 30th of a month. PSA picks it up on the 2nd of the month. If PSA is backed-up with submissions, PSA might not post your order to your account until as late as the 12th for example. Your turnaround time only starts once your order is posted to your account - NOT WHEN THEY FIRST PSYCHICALLY GET IT. Plus turnaround times are only estimates. I've had my last four orders all be late by as much as 7 business days. Business days are monday-friday outside of holidays. Choose wisely!
