In this video we can see the work that has begun on the Sanford Dam. There has been a lot of work on the spillways and low level outlet. The powerhouse has been poured right full of concrete now as well. The Sanford park is looking great! The Sanford Dam is located on what used to be Sanford Lake. Sanford Lake is located in Mid Michigan. This footage was filmed on May 17, 2024. This was after the collapse of the Edenville Dam on May 19, 2020. Wixom Lake was rapidly rising due to heavy rainfall and the Edenville dam could not hold back the water. The side of the dam failed sending water rushing towards Sanford Village. The aftermath and damage left behind is devastating. Make sure you subscribe to catch the follow up videos I will be filming.

I would like to thank you for continuing to document the ongoing stories of the aftermath of the floods. So many times one never knows the outcome of events in the long term, after the attention getting headlines have faded away. I've been keeping up (as best I can) with your videos since the dams failed.

It’s a shame they had to fill in the turbines with concrete. They’re a cool piece of history.

I miss the crystal clear water below the dam. Since the dams failed, the Tibb has been nothing but a steady stream is silty water.

The scale of that project gets me every time, wow. Thank you for the updates. 😄 It looks like the park is a bit lacking in restroom facilities. No wonder the cottonwoods grow so fast 🤣 Take care, man. I hope you and yours have been well and are enjoying the spring/summer.

Great information!! At 15:18 they should have matched the sidewalk joints with the curb joints. The way it is done will likely create cracks in the sidewalk at the curb joints.

If they are not going to be generating electricity anymore what is the point of rebuilding this dam?

Why was it that the power house was no longer going to be used. I guess, was the power house active before the flood?

With the push for renewable power, why wasn't this power plant brought back on line?
@michaelimbesi2314
@michaelimbesi2314 Ай бұрын
Best guess is that the economics just couldn’t be made to work. Generating power would require FERC certification, which probably carries with it a whole bunch of extra hoops to jump through, which would raise the cost of the project. And that plant would be pretty small. It might never make enough money to recoup the added cost.

I can’t help but feel that if it’s not generating electricity, it’s not fully functional. But of course we live in the time of Renewable Energy--unless it’s the most useful form, hydroelectric power. So we fill the old historical and recently functional powerhouses with concrete while we waste irreplaceable resources to build innumerable monstrosities that will be gone in 20 years or less.

Seems a waste to discard a source of free electricity, relatively free, modern turbines would be a fine addition. Outside of the misbehavior of Boyce.
@SuperDalite
@SuperDalite Ай бұрын
Seems pretty weak as why are we not generating electricity with this? Instead we build wind towers that fail easily and encourage an expense of upkeep. Money talks I guess.

Why is this not being demolished? No power generation and located in a area with a low population. So is this for flood control only? Or is this a State funded recreation project?

What an absolute waste to not take advantage of the "free" energy from hydro and remove all the hydro elecric capability.

The NEGATIVE viewpoint😂😂…..Michigan is spending 10’s of millions on a dam that washed out….in an area where the population is low….WHAT IF we spent the money on school programs, or social programs to re-energize the economy of the state. Let the river go back to being a river…….
@jackasdasd5143
@jackasdasd5143 Ай бұрын
I know right. Why do we have to spend a couple hundred million so 100 people can have a puddle that might increase their property values a bit. Seems like highway robbery.
@jackasdasd5143
@jackasdasd5143 Ай бұрын
And also it blocks fish migration upriver which decreases fish populations in the river and in lake Huron. Fishing brings in 2.3 billion a year to Michigan. I know its just one river being blocked, but every river counts and has a big impact on the fishing in the surrounding areas.
