this is so perfect I just wanna cry. they didn't know a word 'rollkür' existed then, they didn't have 'modern' dressage, they didn't look flamboyant, and aggressive even. it was the correct way of riding, used not by many still today. a shame, I say. oh, what I would give to have seen this live........

Beautiful, truly classical training. MS Kempner, please look at the videos of past masters like Nuno Oliveira and Reiner Klimke. There is a huge difference in today's horses, their backs, tightness in poll, and training methods being employed harshly in many cases. What exactly is terrible about the posted video? Please be specific. Thank you.

@FemaleFreedomSeeker I agree! Today, it's all about short-cuts. Such a shame.

Aah, finally some good riding... How graceful, fluent, relaxed... How CORRECT! Where has it gone nowadays...? :(

At that time, they still knew how to ride!! Today, about 85% of the dressage horses aren´t ridden in the right way I´d say. It´s a shame! It takes longer to ride a horse in the right way, but therefore it is more "sustainable" and will "last" longer without being damaged. Besides it is much more comfortable for the horse to be ridden in the right way - everything else means pain and is just more convenient for the rider.

Could as well be Holstein or any other light breed. You have horses being bred all over Germany, not just at the barns which are the origins of those breeds. ;) Plus, Verden was (and is) quite a big events with numerous breeds being sold.

Very good ride, and great rider....but not perfect people.....this ride would not be competative today....if you look, the walk pirouette was not a 10, the passage would be considered weak today, and there were moments of irregularity, the piaffe was well done...the walk was correct, but not the best natural walk I've ever seen.....the point I'm trying to make is this.....riders today have learned from these great masters and have done what they were trying to do....take it to a whole new level.

Ah yes, so true. I really enjoy watching the complete tension of today's modern masters, so inspiring to see an overflexed horse careening around the ring with abnormal gaits, just love that shit

"... training and non-warmbloods .." dann also Kaltblut? oder Pony? oder Zebra?

Same goes for all these brutal bits, gags and twinned/spiked bits are imo the worst.

This is TERRIBLE! Anyone saying dressage should be more like it was in the old days needs to get a dollar, go down to the store and buy a clue. "The training in those days was better because the horses lasted longer". Laura Bechtolsheimer's Alf won 2 Olympic medals in 2012 at 17.
