Like all jurisdictions it depends on the government of the day. If a new president comes in with the intention of “clearing the decks”, all it takes is one signature and all those people will legally be out to death. That’s why people fight the death penalty so much.

Additionally, death sentences are not commuted to life imprisonment in Kenya. Prisoners who receive this sentence serve awaiting the president’s prerogative. This is worse than life in prison because a president could wake up in a bad mood and the prisoner could be dead by 6:05am the next day.

With the stress and pain of knowing that someone's son is rotting in jail because of their affairs, even Jecque Maribe's life won't be as easy. She and the family will be impacted by this for eternity. In my opinion, only the deceased's family has achieved justice in the Jacque and Jowi case. No one has really won.
