Joseph Schmidt was a Most wonderful Opera singer...In this film, I love Szöke Szakal in it, the Cherub Hungarian actor ...

The tune is a medley which incorporates an old Irish melody called "The Last Rose of Summer" the original lyrics of which were written by Thomas Moore, one of Ireland's great music collectors and lyricists from the early 19th century. Schmidt performs it flawlessly here.

Er war so ein unvollkommener Schauspieler, dass man immer meinen könnte, so einer gehört nicht auf eine Bühne, aber seine unerhörte Stimme macht jedes Video zu einem großen Erlebnis.

I have felt from the 50s that Joseph Schmidt had the greatest tenor voice ever recorded. This gift gives me more belief in that feeling. The last few notes without a breath is very dramatic. He would been in very good health to produce such an event. This is one i will play often.

Thanks for uploading Joseph Schmidt arias ! I believe he was the best liric tenors ever. It is such a pity he ended his life so youns a 'slave' in a Swiss Camp during WW2.
