Nobel Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz in conversation with Dean Nilanjan Sen of the University at Albany School of Business.
Joseph Stiglitz received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2001. His most recent book is People, Power, and Profits: Progressive Capitalism for an Age of Discontent (paperback, 2020), a visionary proposal for a more humane system of capitalism.
The reviewer for the New Yorker called the book, “Urgent work, by the foremost champion of ‘progressive capitalism.’" The New York Times reviewer said, “The policy shop of every 2020 Democratic candidate for president would be wise to pore over People, Power, and Profits and cherry-pick its best ideas.”
You can order People, Power and Profits from the local independent Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza: www.bhny.com/book/9780393358339
Known for his pioneering work on asymmetric information, Stiglitz's work focuses on income distribution, risk, corporate governance, public policy, macroeconomics and globalization. In 2011, TIME magazine named him "one of the 100 most influential people in the world."
A professor at Columbia University and former chief economist at the World Bank, Stiglitz is currently the co-chair of the High-Level Expert Group on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) headquartered in Paris, France, and the Chief Economist of the Roosevelt Institute, a liberal think tank in New York City.

You have good instincts. Do not trust Stiglitz. He was Clintons' economic adviser. Clinton signed into law NAFTA, WTO, and China NTR. This turned up the economy and resulted in huge increases in greenhouse gas emissions. China is relying on coal, and the last time I checked was building two coal-powered electric plants per month.

Agree with analysis of worker exploitation, but totally disagree on that increasing censorship by social media companies is the answer to the solution - they are already censoring criticism in favour of establishment propaganda.

"rent-seeking behavior" is important. Thank you New York State Writers Institute for stating it. And it still strikes me as unhelpful that Stigliz' voice especially low when talking about voting in Australia. As a rhetorical technique, lowering the volume works, in person. When recorded, it means nothing. WE CANNOT HEAR YOU! speak like Ralph Nader for God's sake.

Nader referred to Siglitzs' Globalization as the race to the bottom. This man is not to be trusted.

Our current technology allows us to cooperate like never before. WIKIs allow for it like never before. We must co-operate. If life is growth and learning of every individual being, co-operation is the answer.

It's a failure, at least as implemented by the American ruling class. Stiglitz was Clintons economic adviser. Clinton signed into law NAFTA, WTO, and China NTR. This created the Rust Belt and millions of Americans lost their jobs and homes. They could not keep their families together which contributed to the drug epidemic and homelessness. Stiglitiz is a terrible man and totally untrustworthy. Please check this out. I think is trying to make this info go down the memory hole.

You have that one right. He helped cause these problems. He promoted globalization in the 1990s. He did not talk about wind and solar because it cannot undo the effects of massive coal burning in China. You will notice that he did not talk about coal burning in China. I think Stiglitz is a con artist.

You are saying that 30 years after NAFTA, WTO, and China NTR, we still have discontent? What is he talking about @55:00? The universities have been graduating people who can't get jobs in their fields. They can't pay back their educational loans. It is all over the internet. IMHO this man is delusional.

Look how he criticizes the US and the threat to democracy from ‘misinformation’ and praises China. Bruh… He of course brings up legitimate issues but the double standards and lack of self awareness is appalling.

That's because he is guilty, along with others at the top, of opening the floodgates of globalization in the world.
