When Chris died I wept openly. It was if someone I actually knew died. Yet I never met him and he had no way of knowing who I was. I’m not taken aback by celebrity or fame especially in this age of celebrity worship. It was that voice, his songs and his heart that pulled me in. I still can’t believe he’s no longer here. His death was a shock unlike others who we knew in our hearts wouldn’t make it to old age. He was a beautiful and obviously much loved man by those who knew him intimately and by those who appreciated his completely extraordinary talent

And your right Laynes voice does go right into your soul(how I explain it) He is and always will be my favorite singer/songwriter! A LEGEND! You can tell he was a special soul. I wish I could have met him. You could tell he admired you when he introduced you on "long gone day" that smirk! ❤

I was born in ‘82 and only got into nirvana early was cos of my older brother but after watching RockRelm’s videos I started listening to Alice in Chains and Mark’s stuff and was blown away. His audio book is brilliant too.

When something we enjoy is lost, we value more freedom and we know that we are more than a grain of sand in this immense universe, great memories of this beautiful time and to think that wonderful voices are gradually silenced in the sunset of time. RIP Mark Lanegan.

Saw you & Layne preform one of my favorite Mad Season songs at the Moore (yup! I was fortunate to be there) "Long Gone Day" & changed my life. To hear you praise Layne, I'm in tears! And your right...Layne's voice fills your soul & consumes your whole being in a way that cannot be expressed in words. And Chris...his voice is so friggin powerful that it literally brings me to my knees. The greatest gift I've ever been given was the evening I experienced Chris at an intimate acoustic show, & afterwards met & recieved the most genuine, warmest, beautiful hug I have ever been given (well, second to my 5yr old), then had the most wonderful hour long conversation with him that I will always cherish in my heart till the day we meet again above the sky.

Did you notice how lightening fast Lanegan is when he answer’s the question what was Layne like and he replies ‘he was magical’ . Lanegan doesn’t even stop to think about his answer . Those words just are just launched from his heart at break neck speed because he clearly has love & respect for the great man. He doesn’t need to give the question consideration. He is being 100% honest . This clip is a good taster for how the whole interview went . I loved this this whole interview or perhaps it’s more of a late night conversation between two friend’s . What ever label it falls under it is just wonderful from beginning to end . It is unusual to see mr Lanegan so relaxed . He’s laughing and joking all the way threw and he is clearly really comfortable with Joseph Arthur . I can’t recall any storm clouds rolling in or the temperature dropping . He is asked some fairly tough questions & the conversation often ventures into some pretty dark and emotionally sad topics which I don’t believe many , if any , would get away with asking M.L so directly …… it is an excellent wee show to catch if you can . Oh and if you haven’t had the chance to read his recent autobiography ‘sing backwards and weep’ you absolutely have to give it a go . I’m not an accomplished reader by any stretch ( clearly ) but I couldn’t put it down . It’s completely unflinching and brutally honest particularly when he is talking about him self & of course it is just utterly compelling ….. I could go on and on …..anywhoose , peace out world ✌️

I envy Mark for being able to sit side stage and watch Alice in Chains every night. Hearing and seeing Layne when he was young and strong . My brother saw Black Sabbath in Germany in 1969 or 70 in a small theatre and I would imagine that was a similar experience . Vocalists like that don't come along too often

Mark always has reminded me of Morrison and after reading the book he lived like him as well. Naturally gifted.

I loved all of these bands. I started college in 1990. We were being bombarded with bullshit boy and music. I remember placing an order with Columbia House for CD’s (oh the memories with that 😆) and getting Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. And thanking God some good music was coming out. Got into Screaming Trees too. Great memories, except I have hearing loss, especially from the Alice In Chains show in Chicago…

Mark was a so-so singer himself 😉🖤🤘🏻I miss all 3 of those dudes 😞I turned 21 in 1992 & their music has always been so important to me thru-out my adult life 🤘🏻

Love the doggos! I'm always glad to see kinda rough and tough guys with their pups! We've rescued pitbulls for 17yrs on top of all the dogs and other pets we've had. We lost our last boy at 12yrs last year and everyone is still grieving. I miss him very much but I remember the letter I read supposedly from your dog who passed. Asking you to give their toys and bed and your LOVE to another lonely dog. I'm desperate to adopt another and our shelter basically has ALL pibbles. Thanks for this. Very surreal knowing that Lanegan will be gone too after talking about Chris and Layne and Kurt. Kinda wonder if these guys got on with Chester. He was a very close bud of Chris and that probably was the final catalyst for him. Man it's really crazy how many of these guys and girls are gone! I hope the ones left will take things a bit more seriously and take care of themselves better.💔🙏🤘

Although he didn't have Cornell's acrobatic range or Stayley's visceral power, Mark's got a great singing voice in his own right

It's truly sobering when you think about how Kurt Cobain, Andy Wood, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Ben McMillan and now Mark Lanegan are all gone.

Funny how both men, especially Mark, are saying Cornell was a lone wolf type, and almost intimidating. I remember Dave Grohl talking about how Mark was hanging out by himself at Kurt's house and was essentially intimidated by Mark when he confronted Dave. Takes one to know one it seems.

Mark is my favourite artist and second favourite singer, only second to Cornell, which I think he would have taken.

Facelift really opened things..but soundgarden was bigger because the scene kids knew about soundgarden and they appealed to wide range already...louder than love was a very known album.but it is true, first CD I ever bought ,pretty sure was facelift...

Just finished reading his autobiography, sing backwards, it ends abruptly, doesn't really mention much after 1997.. his solo albums or collaborations with isobel Campbell, for example. Now about to start his covid memoir.

Layne was the Jim Morrison of the 90s

I was never into soundgarden. All I ever heard, over and over was black hole sun, and I hated it. Then one day, on the radio...I heard Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart. And he died, like right after I heard that. Then I heard Fell on Black Days, then Fourth of July. I picked singing back up, and the scope of what we lost, finally hit me. It wasn't some 90's pop band, wasn't an edgy Backstreet Boy. It was a legend. Today...Staley is the pinnacle for me, but Cornell, though a different animal, a different species, is in that same legendary league with him as a singer. They really are in the same boat as Mercury, Plant, Dio, to me at least. I can't wait to explore the Screaming Trees, I've heard a lot about them, but in Louisiana as a kid, rap was big. We weren't shown any of that. Now, rap is everything, and utterly meaningless. And rock is almost dead. But as a budding, 30 year old singer, these guys mean so much to me. It's bizarre, but real. To me.
