Pheasant Farm Rat Infestation!

In this video we do some serious pest control at a new location, a pheasant farm! Two of my young mink earn themselves their official names, by showing off their impressive ratting skills. This ratting video was split into two parts due to the length of the footage. The last time I tried posting a video over a half an hour long, the majority of people only watched about 5 minutes of the video. So I decided to break this one up into two different parts, and see if that helps. :-)

"The dogs were everywhere. It didn't matter how fast we ran or where we tried to hide. They just kept sniffing us out. That was bad enough, but then... then... you figure you'd be safe in a hole, right? WRONG. There were these... THINGS... that poured in through the holes. All teeth and claws, with jaws that grabbed and held. Dave... Dave tried to run from one of those things, just lost his nerve, broke and ran out of the hole, but the dogs were waiting. THEY WERE WAITING. They were WORKING TOGETHER. Janice made it into the pallets, and one of these things just flowed right in after her, RIGHT IN through a space that was just barely big enough for one of us, and that was it for her. When they didn't kill us themselves, they drove us out to the dogs. There was no safety, nowhere to run or hide. It was a nightmare, but I was wide awake." *rat lights up cigarette with shaky paws* "How did I survive? I... I got lucky. I was in a hole with Bob and Chuck and Louise when one of those THINGS came at us. We all ran. Chuck... Chuck was slow, it got him. Bob and Louise broke left out of the hole, I went right, and the dogs went after them. I found cover--don't know how they missed me, but they did. I still... I still hear the screaming when I close my eyes." *rat bursts into tears*

It amazes me the way the dogs never mistake the mink for a rodent, the minks aren't afraid of the dogs and they all respect each others hunting space.

weasels and other mustelids punch way, way above their weight. while the larger dogs could kill the mink if determined enough, they would almost definitely end up severely injured if they tried. weasels and other mustelids have very loose skin that allows them to move around when bitten, letting them roll onto their backs and attack with their teeth and claws even when being held by their back in a predator's jaws. millions of years of interactions between canids and mustelids has likely instilled a mutual respect for each other as predators and familiarity of the danger of attacking any member of the mustelidae family.

Well the dogs are extremely smart and hunt with a pack mentality (Joe's the alpha), the mink on the other hand seems to be going off pure instinct and training. The dogs know to leave the mink to do it's thing! I am most impressed by the dogs understanding everything he says, dogs are amazing animals!

White with brown, German Shorthair. Theyre bred as pointers, not killers, so shes really most incluned to show everyone where, and let them kill it.

@@Deathtizity I have heard him mention that GPS trackers can hinder their movement. But I can do something small enough that it shouldn't limit their movement at all as far as the camera is concerned.

so nice to see why it is so important to have a good sniffing dog that is well trained to find a lost mink! These minks are a big asset in your team and for sure you all love every mink, dog, sheep or whatever animal you have.
