I saw through the BS taught to me at school and did my own studying of American history: the Founding Fathers, American Civil War, the Constitution, Congress and the Senate, America's entrance onto the world stage as a superpower at the end of WW1 etc. Best country in the world.

One of my favorite scenes of the film. Love how that Ferry guy sings the Dixie song in Josey and the kids presence but sings the battle hyme of the republic to the northerners minutes later 😂😂😂

"At best he'll get 2 or 3 down front there" That line always makes me split my gut laughing. Those "men up front" are obviously doing it for the money. Certainly no respect and admiration for their commander.

He didn't really care about his own Men, but just wanted to get Josey Wales. Mr. Yankee Redlegs:A truly heartless character! It was him and his unit, that slaughtered Josey Wale's Wife and Children, and burned Josey's House to the ground. Mr. Redlegs brought his own eventual death sentence upon himself, and didn't even know it, until Josey finally caught up with him!

The dude playing Slim Carstarirs also played a barber in Hang 'em High and the biker who did the Every Which Way But Loose movies. Clint is loyal to his stock players just as Orson Wells was. And Martin Scrocesee.

I didn't quite understand it as a kid when I saw it at the theater, but it is a classic. The snake oil salesman, the kid, the Indian, Josey..... a true cast of characters.

I first saw this movie on an overseas Marine Corps base when I was ten years old. It’s been one of my favorites ever since. The Marines would get the latest movies from the States and show them to the civilians ever Friday night. I got my picture taken with Clint Eastwood when I was about six or seven, I was already a huge fan

@@tudyk21 You young buck, I saw it at The Catlow Theater in Barrington Illinois with my friend Greg Cavalier. The theater is still there, it has to be a 100 years old with incredible woodwork. It appears the owner might need help keeping it afloat, though. Sad if something happens to it.

Love how the scene goes from incredibly tense as we wonder what he will do to a dismissive remark to the carpet bagger the Missura boat ride then the banjo starts playing Dixie and the comedy of the horses falling in. Sweet relief to the audience. Great movie making.

Funniest scene in the movie. I still love the Sharps rifle that was used by Clint Eastwood. You can see that's a converted percussion model 1859 or 1863.

This is a treasure, from a time when the supporting actors played real yokels but with personality that seems very authentic for that time. It's not done that way in modern Western movies. Love it\

Anyone who loves this movie needs to read the book. And the sequel. Clint bought the rights to the sequel, "The Vengeance Trail of Josie Wales", and was supposed to make a movie of it as well. Never happened, unfortunately, as the story is just as good. Highly recommend reading it.

That's a converted model 1859 or 1863. You can see the difference to the later cartridge models at the close look on the lock. It still has the primer magazine. On these early cartridge models they only changed the hammer, the breechblock and took out the now unnecessary parts of the primer. The models that were used by the US Army at this time used a .54 rimfire cartridge. Later they took the .50/70.
