You think its bad when someone enjoys telling you youre late and you missed with malice in their heart at the airport, thats how the receptionist at the methadone clinic behaves when you are one minute late. And she dosent even listen to your reasoning, when there is often nowhere to park without getting towed. (so you can get there 10min early and be late) She tried to force me to wait an hour for a counciler when I had jury duty in 30min and didnt relent till I started shouting her bosses name.

So to make sense of the science involved with the mice, I suspect in this case they're testing their response to something we already know about them *because* we know how they would respond in nature. What they're testing here is likely whether or not the VR itself is effective at simulating nature enough to get accurate responses that we would expect to see in nature so that we can decide how useful the technology will be in testing their behavior in experiments that are more difficult to observe/reproduce/control in nature.

To your point about vets - my dog ate a whole platter of salted chocolate pretzels and I called the emergency after hours line, and my vet at the time was first of all pissed, and second of all was like she’ll be fine, leave me the fuck alone (paraphrasing). Like excuse meeee???? 😂

Omg my dog ate 4 oreos while I carelessly left them unattended 😮. He was fine but while researching it, I found a lady say that when it happened to her dog, the vet gave her dog a a little hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. Like from a syringe squirt down the throat

@@janzibrownit is. But it also depends on the amount of chocolate vs amount of dog. If its a big ass dog, they can survive eating *some* chocolate. So... its probably better to figure out what toxicity levels they can handle for their breed/weight/relevant medical history instead of acting like the tiniest drop is going to OD your dog

When growing up (1970’s), I had a dog that somehow got into our lower kitchen cabinet that had the bag of chocolate chips reserved for my Tollhouse cookies. I think he left me enough for one cookie. Neither his appetite nor his behavior changed whatsoever. I was 10 and followed him around probably for the next 24 hrs. so afraid he was going to die!

I'm in my later 30s now, I constantly get estimated at late 20s, BEST I can do beard wise is a goatee and part of me is still waiting for me to start looking like one of those manly 'woodcutter' models from the ads any day now. But we gotta face it... that's not happening. We can stay healthy, work out and probably look 5-10 younger than we are. About the mouse VR study, I had the same reaction when scientists taught monkeys in the lab about incime inequality by giving one monkey fewer grapes than another for the same task 😂 so horridly cruel to these poor innocent creatures 😂

Josh needs input on his pinball style. He has the hands to play the game. It’s not a thumb game. It’s all fingers that can be exchanged as you flip the flippers… plus, pinball is in the hips. Not heavy hips just light body motions that assist your hand play.. seriously. If you find yourself in Vegas go to the Pinball Museum. They have all types of games. It’s a wonderful place to hang out at

Regarding 100-lb lapdogs, like most "dog issues," it's actually an owner issue: when the dog is a puppy, they put the dog on their laps. The dog learns that the lap is a great place to be, and they don't really understand things have changed when they get too big. Dogs like routine and stability, so they'll generally want to keep doing whatever you teach them to do when they're young. If you have a large breed dog, you know it's going to be big. So don't put it in your lap as a puppy. It's really not that hard! Most of my dogs have been large, and I taught them to sit next to me when they were puppies. Shock of all shocks, none of them have ever tried to get into anyone's laps when they grow up. 😱

So yea the animal testing is definitely a controversial thing in science. It seems like the study was more just on "can we make VR that will fool mice?" It's definitely not great to scare mice for shits and giggles, but future studies could use something like this to test anxiety meds without actually putting the mouse in danger, which is better. Definitely agree that the mice never asked for this, and I don't do the kind of science that does animal testing and I'm glad I don't have to. I support the Mouszilla project wholeheartedly.

…but wouldn’t that whole potential study re testing anxiety meds just point out the whole problem with anxiety medication as a concept? Like if you have anxiety because something is trying to kill you or something objectively terrible is happening then…well, that’s supposed to happen and medication is unlikely to override thousands of years of evolution to any real extent. It would point out how laughable it is that we medicate humans in objectively terrible social situations with poor housing, poor medical care access, high living costs etc. As if the biological instinct to be worried when you have low social status as a fancy primate is the problem that we’re going to solve. Maybe we could just improve living circumstances? Humans are exhausting. Anyway, yes - thanks for your comment as I was really searching for any ideas on why.
