Josh Young performs "Bring On The Men" from Jekyll & Hyde
The 2013 edition of Broadway Backwards featured Tony nominee Josh Young, surrounded by a dozen hunky Broadway dancers, tapped the powers of Jekyll & Hyde to "Bring on the Men," in a steamy and seductive performance.
Broadway Backwards, the annual Broadway extravaganza celebrating the LGBTQ+ community through the great songs of musical theater, returns to Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre on Monday, March 13, 2023. The beloved evening and its star-studded cast will embrace love and self-expression in true Broadway fashion.
www.broadwaycares.org/pre-eve...
Broadway Backwards, the only annual Broadway event uniquely created for the gay and lesbian community, our friends and families, supports Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York. Each year, the show features a star-studded cast and live orchestra performing the great songs of musical theatre with a twist: women sing songs originally written for men and men sing songs written for women.
Broadway Backwards creator Robert Bartley wrote and directed this year’s show. The evening’s creative team included music supervisor Mary-Mitchell Campbell, music director by Tim Rosser, co-choreographer Amy Jones, additional music directors Laura Berquist, Mat Eisenstein, Brad Haak and James Sampliner, lighting designer Paul Miller, costume designer Ryan Moller and sound designer Lucas Indelicato. The production stage manager was Matthew DiCarlo.

@@reubenshifletimo, he' clearly a full lyric tenor. His voice isn't actually dark, metallic, rich, large, cold, vibrant and powerful enough and the overall tessitura isn't low enough to be a dramatic tenor too. Based on those vid alone, it's safe to assume he's more likely to be a veristic full lyric tenor or perhaps a spinto tenor who gain brighter quality as he ascends higher. Dramatic tenor is a sonorous, compelling voice that share similar identities with leggero baritone (baryton martin)in both tone and passaggio so anyone who's refer as dramatic tenor is simultaneously a baritone too within that reason but the whole point is that the singer in the vid doesn't have voice that's dark, steely, and emotive, dense enough to be even loosely considered as light baritone/low tenor atleast in reference to the video.

I can't believe I'm just now seeing this. For starters, the entire premise of having a man sing this song is mind-blowing in a good way, especially when its meaning changes completely from the original. Incidentally, it is also my favorite performance of "Bring on the Men" I've seen to date. Josh Young's voice is powerful, seductive, and breathtaking, and fits perfectly with his "sexy ringleader" character. The entire performance certainly would not be out of place in, say, "Cabaret" or any musical set in Weimar Republic Berlin. Excellent work to all involved, and thank you, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, for posting this marvelous performance! :D

Pichi2214 The list of songs specifically written for a gay man to explain in all sincerity how much he loves men is very, very short. It's an entirely too rare experience for LGBT people to feel themselves represented in love songs or in sexy, entertaining performances like this one that simply celebrate the joy of sex. (As a gay woman myself, seeing performances where women sing about loving women or men sing about loving men is ALWAYS an incredibly moving moment ; the meaningfulness of seeing yourself represented is undescribable.) And representation in such a positive light matters so much when who you love or who you have sex with remains a subject of hatred, ridicule and violence in real life. Lines like "I want them all, is that a crime?" or "A little touch of sin" gain a whole new meaning when, well, it still IS a crime in many places, and it still is considered a sin by hundreds of millions of people.
@moo9874
@moo9874 2 жыл бұрын
I genuinely can't understand how they missed the opportunity of making a dude sing this song, it would fit Victorian setting well with the whole 'I love them all is that a crime?' part and there's heaps of gay subtext in the original book so you'd be sticking very close to the source material and getting all the nuance that comes with it.

Over two decades ago I used to go with some friends to a gay/mixed piano bar. One of the regular numbers was “Bring On the Men” sung by a male. I hadn’t heard it again till just now when it appeared in my KZfaq suggestions. The weird thing is it never occurred to me that the song was _not_ originally supposed to be sung by a male-I had heard it that way over 20 years ago and I just assumed that was the way it was supposed to be.

Lyrics: There was a time I don't know when I didn't have much time for men But this is now and that was then, I'm learning A man alone, all on his own Must try to have a heart of stone So I try not to make it known my yearning I try to show I have no need I really do, I don't succeed So lets bring on the men And let the fun begin A little touch of sin Why wait another minute Step this way it's time for us to play They say we may not pass this way again So let's waste no more time Bring on the men I always knew, I always said A silk and lace in black and red Will drive a man right off his head, it's easy So many men, so little time I want them all, is that a crime, no I don't know why they say that I'm too easy They make me laugh, they make me cry They make me sick, so God knows why We say bring on the men And let the fun begin A little touch of sin Why wait another minute Step this way it's time for us to play They say we may not pass this way again So let's waste no more time Bring on the men They break your heart They tear your soul Tear you apart And yet they somehow make you whole So what's their game I suppose a rose by any other name The perfume and the pricks the same I like to have a man for breakfast each day I'm very social and I like it that way By late mid-morning I need something to munch So I ask over men for lunch And men are mad about my afternoon tea's They're quite informal I just do it to please Those triple sandwiches are my favorite ones I'm also very, partial to buns My healthy appetite gets strongest at night My at home dinners are my men friends delight When I invite the fellas over to dine They all come early, in bed by nine! So let's bring on the men And let the fun begin A little touch of sin Why wait another minute Step this way it's time for us to play They say we may not pass this way again So let's waste no more time Bring on the men! (Big men, small men, short men, tall men I guess that means almost all men I'm a player, as long as they are men, men men!) Got this from MetroLyrics btw
