Where have songs like this gone? Songs that tell a multi-layered story across just a few words, invoking more than their sum. Sung in the most heartfelt way possible. Someone needs to cover this and remind today's kids what a song really is.

My first wife, her addiction, and me repeatedly broken-hearted until I learned that promises very often don't mean anything. This beautiful song still brings me memories of those early Sunday morning rescue calls. Yes, I still cry about them 30 years later.

I was in my 20ies when this song came out. Life was so full of joy and promises. Now, I am in my 50ies and most of the things that I envisioned didn't work out as planned. Makes me melancholic.

my parents named me after this song :) i was born in september 1995 and my mam and my dad loved this song! they always said if the baby is a girl, she should be called jessie and yeah..Here i am!! :) i had my confirmation on sunday. we had lunch after that in a nice restaurant with my whole family. my parents surprised me with a slideshow and they played that song.. i had to cry so hard 'cause i realised that they are just the best parents on earth! i love them so much and i love that song!

This song brings a bitter sweet memory . I just moved country in 1994, terribly homesick and heard it played on the radio and instantly fell in love with it. Without the internet it took me a long time to find out about the song and get hold of the music. The Melbourne radio stations played it all summer long. Twenty plus years later , I now have two beautiful sons , Joshua and Jesse.

I think we all have friendships or relationships like this, with someone who holds a piece of our soul in their hands but who never stays for long. They leave, and our souls hurt for their absence. Then, just as we finally have moved on, they show up out of the blue and smile, or laugh, or say hello, and it starts all over again. This is one of those songs that immediately takes the listener back to the time (s)he first heard it. Nearly thirty years have passed and I am not young anymore, but I hear the opening piano of this beautiful piece of music and I am transported.

This song always reminds me of my mom and how she recovered from a postpartum psychosis and depression. Before this happened, she was just having her first child and looking at a bright future with my dad. She used to tell me how dreams are never free and life will always catch up on you the moment you think you know how everything is rolled out. The best way to live is to just let it flow and till this day I still follow her advice. Thank you mom

I have loved this song for over two decades. It grounds me and helps me remember what really matters in life. The rest is fairly typical(but great) but I always come back to it for Moses.Jessie asking how Moses is, the narrator saying about Moses " He used to think about you all the time" and "WE finally took your picture down off the wall " and Jessie saying "bring Mose and drive real fast" takes it so out of the ordinary.Only a Cat Person could write this.Then you see the clip and he is gorgeous with long hair! Ruinous for me when I was young!!!!

I had friend who always loved it when I sang this at the open mic nights... One night I couldn't make it and so he text me and said "Since you can't make it. Do you mind if I sing this song?" I told him to go for it! When I first met him he was so nervous about getting up and singing.. One of those kind of guys who looks tough as nails but has insecurities.. He died last year and I had only seen him a few days prior to it... I've been a singer, pianist and musician for about 27 years now and I love to sing songs like this as well as the piano style in songs like this (rock piano like Elton John, Billy Joel, Bruce Hornsby, Marc Cohn, etc.) I mean I used to sing this because a woman had treated me in a similar way to the Jessie... So now, whenever I sing this song, I sing it with that emotion but also with the emotion of the friend that I lost. Singing with pain and loss really has such powerful affects on ones voice... Sometimes I have to fight through the pain and my voice crackles a little but that's okay.

I love this song. I live both sides of this life. I still love my partner, and couldn’t keep our beloved cat because he’s so alone, can’t stay and can’t stay away. I kept leaving for a better life. I finally am settled but the cat and my love were the cost. I would love him to join me but know it would never work. I never dreamed that I would be the one who needed my freedom. I told my daughter that until she feels the wind in her hair on a bike or drives across a bridge, she will never be her own person. I think what Jesse is about is Gravity. How we hold each other to Earth. Josh Kaddison expresses that beautifully.

She was a total witch to me and I spent a lot of depressed days sitting in our room while my husband was at work. This song made me long for a trailer by the sea just me and him and our perfect little bundle. Music is so powerful.

What breaks my heart more when I listen to this is - my mother name was Jessie, this was her favourite song, and she died when I was 5 :( than growing up without her, I met my childhood sweetheart and her name was Jessie but sadly we split up after 20 years after high school and broke me again :( than I finally found love again and not knowing who I will meet in the future, my new partner has a dog called Jessie and sadly died of cancer about 3 months ago so this song has a lot of heartbreak for me and the word Jessie :(
