Joshua Tree National Park and the surrounding homespun communities are becoming some of the most revered travel destinations in California, offering not just incredible high-desert beauty but a culture and creative vibe like nowhere else.
The towns of Joshua Tree, 29 Palms, Yucca Valley, Pioneer Town and Morongo Valley have long drawn artists and artisans, musicians, along with all sorts of creative types looking to break free from the confines of urban life, find something new and perhaps some inspiration.
Then there are so many others who just want to chill and discover their own personal retreat.They are finding plenty of options these days in hip restaurants, off-the grid lodging, funky art, galleries, and museums, indie music, vintage shopping, along with meditative exploration and unparalleled outdoor adventures.
This documentary explores what southern California’s high desert has to offer and why it is so special.

As locals, what we find, is that so many visitors are destroying the desert. Trash is left everywhere. The sense of entitlement, amongst many visitors, is astounding to say the very least. You’re not home, don’t expect to find everything you have at home, here in the desert. Be respectful, be kind, be courteous….it’s not hard.

Beautiful place! I wish I could remember it! I was born 8/5/1962 at the Naval Hospital there on base. My dad was a Marine ( as was our whole family just about) I came back to Kentucky in 1966 when my Grandfather died. Dad felt it was his duty because he was his mother’s only son, and he promised his Dad he would take care of grandma until she passed away. And he kept his word. I miss all of them now! But California is so beautiful, I would love to go back and see it! Semper Fi and ooh rah! to my friends at the base in 29 Palms!

We just drove from Michigan to L.A, and of all the tourist traps and things we "had to see", the Joshua Tree Desert was the best.

Joshua Tree is a beautiful little small town, 29 Palms is a bit bigger, Pioneer Town is even cooler than Joshua Tree, but very limited in services. Yucca Valley is the “big city” of the area. All within 30 minutes or less from each other. If you watch this video and decide to visit my High Desert Community, please leave with more trash than what you came with. Remember another amazing event is Saturday and Sunday mornings, a large FARMERS MARKET in Joshua Tree can provide FRESH FOOD and snacks for visitors. We do wear cowboy boots, and cowboy hats, however it’s a dead give away you’re a Coastie, when you prance around in that gear. You would be hard pressed to find a more friendly people here in the high desert. For the younger, LIVE MUSIC lovers, Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneer Town, and the Joshua Tree Saloon are Great offerings. All places out here have their quirks, and visit with an open mind. When visitors are not present, the towns are very quiet and picturesque. Also, last tip, there is a CROSSWALK on the corner of the Joshua Tree Saloon, and if you need to cross State Hwy 62, please use that crosswalk. It is 40 mph in the town, however our drivers are known like all other California drivers, the speed limit is kind of a suggestion, and you will definitely get run over if you avoid the crosswalk. Please visit, and enjoy our California Small towns! You are welcome as all VISITORS are, we just request you remember to respect your host town as we live here year round. God Bless You and Yours, now get up here and enjoy a long weekend! Keep your ears and eyes on the web sites for celebrations and festival Live Music venues! WWG1WGA

The unregulated Airbnbs are destroying the housing market out here, locals can hardly find a place to live anymore, some have even been kicked out of their rentals so the land owners can convert them into airbnbs😔😔

Exactly. I bought my house in 2018 for $155k. It was purchased in 2014 for $65k. Todays value is $400k in 2023! Everything here is AirBnb now. It now the OC of the desert. Sucks

@@landonsmith4338bubble will burst soon! Post covid, Airbnb’s are sitting more empty. Some are selling even…give it more time. Some of us who visit just want peace and quiet. Not sure why people are so testy about “outsiders”. We all aren’t bad. Also, go to the city and get them to regulate Airbnb’s! They do it in other towns…speak up, it may help.

Lived in this area for 38 years now. Sadly, this beautiful region is slowly being destroyed by outsiders and hipsters who want to gentrify this area. Indeed, everything changes. I just long for what this area used to be like many years ago when it was a friendlier place to live and raise a family.

many LA people visit…we all aren’t hipsters or gentrification people. We simply want a place to go for peace. We bring money to the area and are respectful.

Yeah well, make the best of it because that is happening everywhere in America. Let's just try to be friendly and make them play by the rules. My town in Ventura County has gotten overrun also. I also strongly dislike my neighbors who rent their house out to people I don't know and then they're gone next week and then more people show up and just don't seem to care about the community vibe.
@ladesigner8764
@ladesigner8764 2 ай бұрын
The city should regulate it then…like Palm Springs did…go to your town halls! Speak up. Then the Airbnb’s can sell to people that want to live there…not all people who rent Airbnb’s are bad, however.
