I travel a lot for work, and I bring my quadcopter with me sometimes. I need to be able to toss my Taranis into my checked bag and know that it won't be destroyed when it comes out the other end of TSA hell. This transmitter glove from Think Tank has finally made that possible.

Bought this a couple months back and couldn't be happier. I can fit my Taranis, Headplays, eachine spectator screen, 10 lipos, small toolset, props, and strap my quad to the outside of my backpack. This was the missing piece to that puzzle, glad to see you reviewed this simple but essential product.

Great idea! I like their FPV pack too, but a bit spendy. I just chatted with Think Tank and they say the X9 transmitter wrap should fine with the X7 radio but will let their marketing folks know to test it and put that info up on their website.

So I have an idea for new content if you are interested. ...I own a small house built in the early 70's in a subdivision so I think its a 1/4 acre lot or something with 6 trees, a car port, and detached garage. So I just don't really have room to fly a big 5" quad in my yard so I have built and flown my first two 3" quads and am really having fun again without having to pack all my stuff and go to the park with my Vortex 250 pro. I imagine that there are LOTS of people out there in the same situation as me because we can't all be blessed with the money to buy a 10 acre lot. So you could put together a few small 3" builds and set yourself up a really compact race course to show them off and contrast them against each other. I don't know but I love these little quads and the added bonus is that they might not do as much damage when they crash on the roof of the house like I did yesterday. lol. I built an armatan 130 clone with Flight controller and ESC's from the youbi XV-130 (I bought two youbi's but they both had broken frames with in two days of flying), emax 1306 4000kv motors, and a run came owl plus. Its nice but still not durable enough for me (i used nylon M3 hardware because thats all I had and it smashed into pieces on the roof yesterday). I also built an Atom V2 frame with the other Youbi guts and 1407 F20 motors which I don't recommend them as two motor shafts broke before my first set of broken props (rotorX 3040T).

Agree. This thing is kewl. But, I don't use mine on a day-to-day basis either. I stopped when I got my LowePro backpack (provides enough TX protection without the hassle of "daipering" ;-)). I was going to get rid of it, but yep, for lighter packing for travel I think I am going to keep it. I don't think I want to try and lug that LowePro on a plane. On a separate note, but related to TX care, be careful using that NewBeeDrone lanyard. There is a way it can unhook itself. It's happened more than once to me and the last time it caused a broken switch and a jacked up case. I switched back to the included Taranis lanyard. Shame too, because I like the easy disconnect and the quality of the strap itself.

Will that fit in the LowePro? I am always concerned about pressure on my side switches. Great video. Love the channel.
@CarsonBlack
@CarsonBlack 7 жыл бұрын
Will fit in the lowepro, but kind of overkill if you are using the "shelf" that sits over the TX. Also, you will have to readjust the transmitter section of the bag to accommodate it and will lose some room in that section. I use that section for both goggles and the TX. I do put some foam over the goggles and the screen of the Taranis for a a little extra protection.

Cool protection. I once made it just out of cardboard, but later moved to such a soft case you mentioned here. Its large enough to also fit my fatsharks. But the downside its large. Halfway fills my flying trolley :). Greets, Mario

I use an external UHF module that clamps to the metal bar on the back of the radio. Do you think this will still fit well enough as long as I remove the UHF antenna during transport? Thanks!
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 7 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think it will fit. The "glove" is designed to slide underneath the metal bar.

Great info. I'd love to hear more about traveling with quads. I travel a fair amount too. I hate checking bags. I'd be concerned they may never make it to the other side. Gate checks for small planes are at least controlled and you pick your bags up at the plane. Do you pack your quad(s) too? How many? Where do you fly them? Just find a vacant lot? What are the rules for lipos? Guessing you travel with those on carry on. Does security give you a lipo fondle because of them? Do you bring your charger? IMAX? I'd love to travel with quads (TWQ) a new quad acronym..you heard it first here...but I haven't figured it out yet. Thx!

Joshua, the iNav config. tool gives us the ability to switch modes between plane and multirotor with an F3 board, so how about you demo it in a VTOL design? currently only OpenAreoVTOL can do this in one controller.

@Joshua Bardwell Fantastic video. Would love to see how you pack the quad. Also how to pack the batteries safely for an airplane. Even better, go over everything you take with you when you travel. What charger is easiest to travel with. etc. That would be extremely helpful.

PLEASE add something for us self-confirmed "cheap bastards", Josh! Look, I'd love to have a Think Tank FPV Session bag...I'd like to have a Lamborghini, too, but I sure as hell ain't PAYING for one! There has got to be something out there that will work as a good FPV back pack without breaking the bank. Again, I think the Think Tank is amazing (so is a Lambo) but most of us aren't going to drop what amounts to the price of a new quad on backpack, at least not us "cheap bastards"! Thanks, man, love your channel and your alternative "cheap bastard" suggestions. Keep at it!
@JoshuaBardwell

Hey Joshua, I have a rechargeable lion battery in my Dx6, would that be something that needs to come out of my tx when putting it in the checked baggage, and put in the carry-on the same as lipos? Thank you, -Jamie

Yes absolutely. You cannot transport Lithium batteries in checked bags. You must remove the battery and carry it on the plane with you.

If you have the stock Taranis antenna, it is inside the glove. If you have the 5 dBi mod the antenna can be removed. If you have a Spektrum, the antenna is pretty sturdy.
