OMG my grandmother taught me the toilet paper hack and I have never seen or heard anyone else demonstrate it. She said it was how they saved TP during the depression. I lol'd so hard the moment you said rip the corner off, I knew what was coming. This made my day

The TP joke was priceless and timeless 👌 There's a lot about Northeast winters that some don't understand and this points out a lot. Gotta keep those hands moving and useful is, to me, the most important because your life depends on it. Thank you 😊 Blessings 🥰

Council Tools makes great stuff, I love the Camp Carver! As for the “one sheet of paper” technique…I was taught that in Boy Scouts in the early 70’s. Never tried it. Never will! 😂. MRE toilet paper was featured on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (you youngsters can Google him, one of the funniest men to ever live) in the mid 80’s. He was opening each item from an MRE to show the contents, he comes to the toilet paper and says “Oh look, napkins.” Every soldier across the world guffawed simultaneously no doubt. He corrected himself the next night. Great video.

Love your intro! Someday I'll learn to edit. What program do you use? The TP story is disgusting and hilarious. One good tip I've heard is to keep an emergency blanket somewhere within reach in your vehicle - in the glove box or in the door storage areas in case you are pinned down and can't move.

you telling that toilet paper joke a seriously as you told it. you know there's going to be a lot out there going to do it. 🤣 But on that note, If I didn't have a roll with me, (one thinking on mission essential items, you tend to forget toilet paper), I would go to our trash point in the field and get all the C-rat TP (yep that old) everyone threw away. I really don't know what they were wiping their ass with cuz they threw it all away. In actuality depending upon one's mindset, the trash point was actually a supply point.

Hi Josh, I see you're finally wearing your green beret. It doesn't look like standard issue to my eyes, but I served in the Peace Corps, not in the Army, so what do I know? I've always preferred winter camping, and over the years I've taken my winter vacations in places like NW Territories, Northern Manitoba, NW Ontario, and in the Rockies (above treeline). When I lived in Minnesota I was often deputized as Assistant Scoutmaster for the 'Zero Hero' trip to the north country. In 2008 we took our scouts to the Boundary Waters in January and the temp. reached -28 deg. F. I've camped as cold as -40 deg. F, but most of the time I've had to be content with temperatures from 20 deg. F to -20 deg. F. My recommendations are somewhat different from yours. I go a little heavier on the bags. If I'm camping in the Rockies, where it's not really cold but windy, I'll pack just the -20 deg. bag, but if I'm in Minnesota or Canada, I'll pack the -20 deg. bag, a 10 deg. bag, and a polyester fleece throw. That system is cozy at -30 deg. F, no fire needed. At -40 deg. I'm a little uncomfortable but still warm. You're not going to see any colder than that Stateside, esp. in balmy Upstate New York. I never recommend an axe, and esp. not in the winter. Too much potential for serious injury. Just the LT Wright Outback (knife), Bahco Laplander, and *maybe* a hatchet, but a real 12-15 inch job, nothing larger. No Silky for me. I use the Hercules SAK, which has the excellent Victorinox saw and the pliers (for removing the pot from the fire). If you're above treeline in the Rockies you MUST pack snowshoes. That's not an option, but required medical gear. Why? It's not 'tundra' up there--it's miles and miles of boulder fields, and more often than not the crags and fissures are just big enough for your foot or leg to get stuck between boulders. In the winter, the boulder fields become very effective leg fracture devices, so you need to stay above the unseen boulders below the snow. Sunglasses are essential unless you enjoy several days of snow blindness and headaches. And if, like me, you like to strip down while you're hiking (not unusual to see me shirtless at 15 deg. F), you need suntan lotion or sunscreen, esp. if you're above 10,000 feet. At 12, 000 feet the atmosphere is so thin that you can get a sunburn in less than 30 min., even in the dead of winter, even with cloud cover. I never took to the wool blanket idea. I guess it works in summer, but not in winter, unless you build a fire. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with hard tack. It keeps forever. Early WWI rations included hard tack from the Civil War. There's a guy on KZfaq who ate some Civil War hard tack, and also a can of meat from the 2nd Boer War in 1898. I couldn't stop laughing as I watched him trying not to gag on the stuff. (The channel is Steve1989MREinfo, the video is called '1899-1902 British Emergency Ration Field Service'). Good job on the video, Josh! PM 2022

_“Speaking of large matches…”_ Pretty sure no one in the history of the world has ever said that before. From now on, I’m going to start every sentence I use with “Speaking of large matches… ” For example: “Speaking of large matches, could you please pass the salt?” “Speaking of large matches, who would like to go to the pub and play some darts?” “Speaking of large matches, you really suck at Call of Duty.”
