Today I'm trying South African food for the first time!
Dutchy's Gourmet Sausages is located in Plantation, Florida serving South African food! They serve dishes like biltong, peri peri chicken liver, lamb bunny chow and also imported items from South Africa like wine and cookies. This is my first time trying South African food and I loved it. I didn't think I would be able to find South African food in South Florida but I'm glad I did. So if you're looking to try South African food in South Florida make sure to stop by Dutchy's Gourmet Sausages!

The reason the curries so closely represent Indian food is because, besides India itself, Durban in South Africa has the largest population of Indian people in the world.

Thank you for showcasing some of our South African food. South Africa has lots of Muslim and Indian people. Durban is where a lot of Indians live more than in Cape Town or anywhere else in South Africa hence the spicey and curried dishes we enjoy in our homes any day, anytime. Lamb and chicken curries are the all time favorites as well as breyani and akni. We also love chicken and meat roasts as well as veggie stews, boerewors (sausage)/ burgers with egg n chips and too many more to mention :))

After visiting my kids in Australia for 3 months the first thing I did. When I landed in Cape Town was order fish and slap chips and a Castle beer biltong and boerewors...our meat(bacon..tjops and steaks) and fruit (Mango especially) are much more tastier...when I asked for tongue people looked at me weird😳. Ps ...we are also soooo much friendlier...but I must say I felt sooo safe in Australia...

Awesome to see as a Saffa. Monkey gland sauce for reference: Onion, tomato, peach chutney and worchestershire form the base ingredients. What's great about it is its versatility, you can spice it up with chilli if you like, season to your own tastes, a bit of herbs, garlic etc as you like to make it your own.

👍🏻 Great review! Next time you have biltong, try washing it down with a fortified wine: port, sweet sherry, jerepigo, or muscadel .. 1+1=3! And the peri-peri chicken livers go down well with a catemba and ice, which is red wine with cola or lemonade .. together (peri-peri and catemba) a great tribute to the Portuguese influence on South African heritage! Also, ask them for a boerie-roll with Mrs Ball's chutney and caramelised onions - it's a hot dog made with boerewors (a South African sausage of coarsely ground meat with coriander, cloves, and other spices). "Boerewors" is Afrikaans for "farmer sausage".

This is only a small fraction of our food. Good variety, but there is still a long way to go! We have such a diversity of cultures here that we have adopted a lot of different foodstuffs - European, Indian, Malay, African, English - and given them our own special twist. Everyone who eats our food says it is 'almost' like something else. But it's the 'almost' that makes it unique. And yes... really... biltong with a fork?

The biltong is beef jerky. You can cut it as thin or thick as you like. The bunny chow is an Indian curry inside a hollowed out half-loaf of white bread. It started as a cheap and filling fast-food/take-out which originated in Durban. You would normally eat both the biltong and bunny chow with your hands.

Living inland I miss durban garage curry den bunny chow so so much, can't imagine being a whole hemisphere away from our unique curry 😢 The term "bunny chow" might as well be a bunny's worth of analysis but actually has nothing to do bunny meat... it has to do with the way you're supposedly supposed to eat it. Holding it up and taking bites like a bunny lol. For those looking to give it a try... take a 1/4 of a load of bread and hollow it out and scoop in either curry and chips 🍟 or urry with potatoes. Side of carrot sambar if it's it's good hot curry.

add cream to that peri peri chicken livers and you have a real winner there I'd love to try it to see how authentic the curry is because even in South Africa the curry varies from province to province and Durban curry is by far the tastiest but you can't go wrong with biltong and dry wors it's a staple for many South Africans but I like what they offer on the menu and all seems like genuine South African food in the states.

Authentic Durban Bunny should be hotter than the livers. The livers should remind you more of Spanish flavours, heavy on garlic, and tomato and 1 very specific type of pepper called the piri piri chillie. If you pick up indian vibes they likely added star anise, cumin, fennel or other spices that does not belong with the livers. Next time try the Gatsby for some Malaysian goodness. Bring lots of friends with. Gatsby feeds about 3 grownups.Good Collection of SA foods.

The store in question wouldn't make the dish _Durban curry_ hot as that'd turn off the patrons from ordering the dish. When the vlogger mentioned that Thai curries he'd had were hotter than the bunny I knew it had to have been immensely mild. Be that as it may, the important thing is that he sampled a varied menu and enjoyed it all.

So glad you enjoyed South African food. Like you can see from the coments you just need to eat your biltong and dry wors by hand. Hope you visit that restorant again soon.

Very Interesting. Other than Biltong and chow which to me look typically South African, the rest looks beautiful and delicious but very much like food I've eaten in a lot of restaurants accross England and South Africa. Looks like a nice fusion of food from around the world. Thank you for sharing.

@josiaheats , exellent vidoe, being an Indian from SA, and being someone who makes Mutton Bunnies on an almost every weekend basis, the only comment i have here, is the carrot in the curry and the square potatoes. Traditional Indian Mutton Bunnies, does not have Carrots and the potatoes are not so uniformed, Apologies, just my nitpicky comment
