Rajini's competitors kept changing always , for the 3 years 1990-92 it was an out and out competition between Rajini and vijaykanth , kamal was pushed beind ..... 1991 vijaykanth gave a blockbuster in captain prabakaran and super hit in managara kaaval , but Rajini surpassed it all by ending the year with the biggest hit Thalapathy , in 1992 pongal clash was mannan vs chinna gownder , both were box office superhits but chinna gownder was the winner, in june 1992 it was annamalai vs bharathan and post that clash , Rajini absolutely pulled ahead of vijaykanth ..... In 1993-94 it was touted as Rajini vs Rajkiran after Rajikiran gave 3 back to back silver jublees , Then it was Rajini vs prasanth , post natamai it was Rajini vs Sarathkumar , post kaadhalan Rajini vs prabudeva and its going on till date .....

Great discussion, I have the same thoughts since young age when I was a big fan which ended after Sivaji movie. I still watch Rajini’s movie FDFS in US with friends for his humor, innocence etc. Tharmadurai Scene before Song Ann enna is another acting example of innocence of Rajini. Great points to bring to audiences about Rajini which I believe too.

Superb - Kamal is always there but he is not any reason for Rajni - Rajni is capable of anything and everything. Kamal talent hides the fact that he is not a box office draw - he would have been field out like Suriya - Rajni would have been even more ferocious in box office had Rajni decided to make a movie every year …
