Okay, I've been a Journey fan since I purchased their Infinity album (on vinyl) almost 40 years ago. Dang, I'm old. Journey is awesome. They were, and ARE a great band. When Steve Perry QUIT the band I was bummed. For years... no Journey. Then they found Arnel Pineda. If you are such a purist that you can't accept the brilliance of Pineda, then I feel sorry for you. Not only did he resurrect the band, he made them better. Listen to this video. They are amazing... easily as good as they ever were before, and I think better. Forget Pineda, watch the other guys in this video. They are better than ever. Thanks, Arnel.

I love Steve Perry but this guy is equally as talented and if Journey started with him they would have had the same success.

Pineda is a better person, a better singer, and better period. he actually cares to be on stage with his band and feels like a part of the band. He brings more soul and feel to the music. I admit, it was tough to make the transition from Perry to Pineda...but they both sound amazing. I think of Pineda as carrying on the Journey sound...with his own unique twist. Phenomenal.

Without a doubt, Arnel is a gift to the legendary guys of Journey and Journey is likewise, heaven-sent for Arnel. Let no hatred be, spread the love instead.

I'm not takin anything away from Steve Perry, Journey wouldn't ever have happened w/o him,,,,But this guy is amazing and can sing ANYTHING!!! I have since listened to everything he's ever done and this guy can cover anyone from Chicago, Air Supply Bon Jovi to Bryan Adams and has plenty of his own originals. I would love to see him Live w/ Journey now!

To be honest. No one can replace Steve Perry, point taken. I don't like Arnel's first performances but as the time goes on, he gets better and better. He use Perry's voice as a base and he makes his own version. I appreciate.

I think he sings as well as Steve Perry in terms of vocal ability (tone, power, range). They are both amazing singers but just have different styles. Sometimes I like the way Arnel sings a part in a song more than the way Steve did, and sometimes vice versa. It's just great to have 2 options like that lol

Who was AP before Journey? Arnel Pineda's journey is an inspirational cinderella story. A boy who never stop believing. At the age of 13 his mother's death exhausted the family to bankruptcy. Separated from his siblings to unburden his father he left home and school empty handed. He was a homeless boy for two years. He slept in park benches, selling scrap metals, newspapers, bottles. He survived three days without food. His friends sometimes urged him to sing in exchange for food. Then one day they encouraged him to use his voice for a living. At the age of 15 he auditioned and became a member of the band called Ijos. When he was earning enough he reunited his family. He jumped from band to band just to survive until a record label noticed him and offered a self-titled solo album in 1999. He tried his luck and flew to the foreign land of Hongkong. Frustrated, he flew back to Philippines after more than a decade. In 2006 he was encouraged to joined the band called Zoo as the lead singer. The Zoology album was released in 2007. During their gigs because of his incredible voice box Arnel covers vocally challenging songs from Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, to Journey. At that point although he was earning viewers from KZfaq yet still hasn't gain popularity in music industry. Just when Arnel was about to give up on his singing career he received a call from the Guitarist of Journey Neal Schon. The rest is history. At the age of 40 he became a rock star. The first thing he ever did after his international success was funding his own (AP) Foundation to help homeless and street children like he was himself. This inspired the Journey to write the song 'City of Hope' in Eclipse Album. Arnel even composed charity songs 'This Christmas' and "Charity" (in Cartoon Network) for the Yolanda Victims. After the Journey World Tour 2015 AP is now back to the studio working on his new album.

Arnel is the live story of a poor kid making it in the big time. He's amazing beyond words can describe. Steve Perry should have manned up and done a duo concert tour with Arnel. The crowds would have been enormous because everyone loves a hero and his equal being friends!

You heard it first from steve. But if you heard it from somebody first then you will like to hear from that person who sang it first. That's the way originality is. But keeping the music, the band, the journey alive is to keep on moving. And by moving on we need to accept whom ever they put in place to keep on with the journey. Unless you are more of and "I" than "We" in a band. Again steve is steve and arnel is arnel. Arnel have his own style and so with steve. But arnel was hired to atleast copy how steve sang the songs. Check arnel's original band song "pain in my heart" he's using his original voice. Journey songs after all these years and Take the world down tonight are both original song with arnel. Arnel was discovered 2007 and the song released in 2008. I hope we can all agree that we need to give them both respect. 😁

I don't care if you feel one way or another about the new lineup, but for god sake enjoy the fact that we still have a powerhouse like Journey out there in the world. My generation only has one band that can even come close to the megastar band status like Journey, and even then Avenged Sevenfold has a long way to go. What a blessing for Journey and the Filipino heritage for both to find each other. Music causes people to fall in love. Nations to go to war. Countries to elect Presidents. Out of the poverty and pain Arnel held on to his dreams. Now he is blessed and so is Journey to have him. Now so are we to feel hope through those gifted songs we so eagerly waited upon as children.

Couldn't agree more. Both singers can sing the songs of Journey very good. Arnel has a fighters pitch and Steve has a light voice for it. It's just what you prefer. And otherwise you listen to both. That Arnel or Steve should be better is a wrong comparison. It's all about taste.

the band's younger generation-than-them current vocalist arnel gives them so much advantage compared to other bands of their generation on their tours, they can still perform their old songs like it was before , unlike other great bands such as bon jovi who can no longer rock their songs like they did in the 90's and 2000's ( i miss those days). so cheers to journey with arnel :)
