Christiaan and Kseniya Welzel ventured into Chernobyl's exclusion zone on the 27th anniversary of the plant's nuclear disaster and documented their experience. "Beautiful Ghost: A Filmmaker's Look at Chernobyl" attempts to capture the location's eerie beauty and convey the feelings the Welzels felt there. "Yes it's scary, it's a little eerie, but at the same time it was very peaceful," Kseniya says.

Robert's Art Studio Well said! I was thinking the same thing. If your stuff doesn't tell your story without you having to explain it, your not a filmmaker, your a storyteller... and more importantly, interpretation is individual, perhaps differed from person to person, it's not the "artists" job to tell you what to see, it's the fact that it's many different things to many different eyes that makes it "art".

Did he have to explain that though?

The *standing* water in the area is irradiated, any water coming down through a ceiling is obviously rainwater and so would not be dangerously radioactive
@lewisdoherty7621
@lewisdoherty7621 8 жыл бұрын
+psmanici4 Since the fallout would tend to build up on the buildings' roofs, even with the many episodes of rain, the water finding its way from the now failing roofs probably carry a concentration of radioactive materials. The radioactive materials on the ground would be more likely absorbed by the ground. Those buildings during the fire probably had their windows and doors closed. There would have been some radioactivity seeping into them anyway, but the radioactive soot would have blanketed the roofs. The heavy radioactive atoms would have pressed themselves to the roof and rainwater flowing over them over the many years may have not dislodged them till the roofs began to fail.

1. The Americans had the 3-mile island disaster, so while it was nearly as bad as Chernobyl (because the American government took action to stop it from becoming a catastrophe), they know what it is to suffer. 2. Don't exclude the Japanese who suffered from 2 atomic bombs and Fukushima. If you thought the Soviets and their lack of quality reactors had it bad, try visiting parts of Japan that are still irradiated, nearly 80 years after.

The place has been thoroughly washed with detergents and water.... but still some of the elements were absorbed by soil, and can seen settled on window sills, doors... you just have to be careful. Wear proper clothes, be well equipped with gadgets, get yourself a tour guide , as they know the place well, it's better to travel in group than travelling solo. You have to follow few guidelines of ukrainain government, it is on their site, or you can simply Google it ; it's for your safety. P.s. don't touch animals, no matter how cute they appear;)
