I showed my kids this after taking them to EPCOT this summer. They wished they'd seen this version. A far, far, far better version.

My friend I would love it if they brought the dreamfinder back.. I loved the original version.. Sadly, I only when on the ride once when I was a youngster, but left a great image in my head. The styles and the creativity made me remember that ride.. So wonderful.

Having fond memories of this original attraction, I can truly say it was even more amazing than the video shows. The white room alone was so crazy. Still, this video shows how much better the original was than the silly redo.

This version of the attraction actually shows imagination!! The current attraction is rather mundane and dark...I wish the imagineers would rework it back to the original version. Figment is still cute!

This made me so happy! The original Journey Into Imagination is my all time favorite attraction and this is about as close as I'll get to going back in time and getting to ride it again. Thank you for the memories and for teaching me something too.

I can't tell ya how much better this version of Journey Into Imagination is compared to today's version.

Yeah. This beauty came out at about the same time Steve Jobs was hatching the Macintosh for Apple -- and represented a lot of the same vivid, rebellious approach to forward thought. I was lucky to attend late summer '83 -- when all about the pavilion was fresh and new. I don't recall "Figment's coloring book" or "Image warp" (installed later?) but I know the legendary "Rainbow Corridor" (so called) and light pens were there from beginning. I once read Philip Glass programmed the Stepping Tones.

YES! Bring it back! Also bring back Universe of Energy too!

The original Journey into Imagination wasn't dated at all, certainly not any more than say, the classic Fantasyland attractions. I would still ride this today.

I still have the stuffed figment I got at Epcot when I was a child. He is the same one you show with the yellow shirt that says Figment. Too bad they changed the ride. I have fond memories of riding it when I was little.

The original was my favorite Disney ride as a kid! Just rode the new one last week, and it's not even clear what it's saying about how imagination works. The original offered a coherent theory of how imagination works: you gather images, sounds, colors, etc., through the senses, and put them together in new ways. Plus it's just so much more beautiful and detailed. Disney really underestimates the pull of nostalgia for 30- and 40- somethings if they think these rides need updating. What we want is the retrofuturistic glory that was the original Epcot, and to share that with our children.

Bring back the original Dreamfinder 1989 , 2005 and 2013 ... planning to visit again

Can I just saw I got teary eyed watching this? And this is coming from someone who has never seen this. I have never been to WDW and I actually feel a connection to these characters. I am old enough to have seen it, but too young to remember much tho. Here I am, 17 now, but I am proud to say that I love this, even if I never saw it.

I never rode the original ride but the video of it shows it to be a lovely and enjoyable ride.

Its so beautifull! It really shows the Imagination we all had as childs. And we always would have. I am really sad they deleted this beautifull Imagination ride and replaced it with a new modern one that is really small and short... so sad...

Bring back a new version that is like the original and bring back DREAMFINDER! Also give Figment his child like quality back. On top of that reopen the real Image Works it was just superior in everyway to the new one. Kids and adults alike would love it. Thank you for creating this thurogh look at was one of WDW's best attractions in it's day.

This video really opened my eyes. The current incarnation of the Imagination pavilion is a shell of it's former self.

The amount of times I have watched this video would probably scare most people. I never got to go on the ride. However I feel like my imagination has taken over and it sometimes feels like I have.

A recent trip to WDW reminded me of how much I missed the original which like many early EPCOT dark rides actually told a story. The new version is a lesson in annoyance whereas the original version actually looked at how imagination worked.

I can only IMAGINE (haha ;]) what it was like in person. It looks so beautiful, and magical, and something that actually really describes Disney and it's theme itself. This is an old video and it still looked beautiful. Love thr catchy music. I can definitely see why it was so beloved.

Just got home from taking my 11 year old to the 4 parks. Hadn't been there in years. Hated to see the sterile ugliness of the Imagination pavillion. It was the saddest day I have had regarding Epcot since I found out they closed Horizons, WOM, and Kitchen Kabaret. Thanks so much for the video.

I was fortunate to be able to ride the original version.

This was so amazing!!! I can't believe they would close this down. Even if some of the tech got outdated, the sheer energy and light and laughter and delight you see in the vid from even adults,playing in the imageworks and the fountains.... We need more of that life and laughter back!! Even as a kid, my favorite stuff at Disney and Epcot was always the parts NOT directly related to a movie - but fantastical, imaginative - like the old Adventureland, the old Tomorrowland, and this! THAT was what Walt Disney's dream was about, inspiring people in new ways! Not just movie-based theme parks.

Thank you - I fondly remember this ride from my days living in Orlando, and it was my all-time favorite, hands down. Watching this video made me misty-eyed, and I love the audio quality. Imageworks was one of the coolest things about EPCOT, and it was a shame they removed it. The interesting trivia at the beginning was fascinating, by the way. All in all, I believe you have successfully captured the essence of the original ride in all it's wondrous glory. Thanks again; I love this.

I really enjoyed watching the original Journey through Imagination. I have always loved the original with the Dream Finder. I don't care to much for the Imagination show they have at EPCOT now though, it is not as good as the Journey through Imagination with the Dream Finder and his machine. What a beautiful tribute. Thank you for bringing tears to my eyes and letting me relive one of the favorite things of my childhood.

There should be a new trackless ride called “Journey Into Imagination: The Quest for Dreamfinder”, the old lobby will be restored with a new mural. There should be a new rainbow corridor that leads to the station. The ride vehicles will be paint pots. Some scenes would include architecture, Dreamfinder appearing and saving figment from the darkness, arts and entertainment, and figment’s sparkcatcher.

I can understand that. I never got to go on Horizons, but I've always been blown away by the imagery of that ride. I've even regarded it as my all-time favorite theme park attraction--and, again, I never went on it. ......... This video coverage of "Imagination" is the best I've seen in the nearly-30 years since I've been on it. Still, there's nothing like experiencing it in person. (I'm sure the same's true for Horizons.) ......... IMO, "Imagination" would still hold up if it was still there.

Agreed. They could do FANTASTIC things with this ride since the technology is just insane now. I still remember as a kid when I was in line and saw all the colors with the sun shining in from the glass ceilings. Man, that was so epic and amazing. lol, and that was even before I got on the ride.

I love that you added the 1982 EPCOT Center Entrance music to the show.. It's a shame that Disney killed the ride in later years and gave the Dreamfinder the pink slip.

The original version was a case of getting it right the first time. The current version is OK, the second version was terrible. I hate what has been done with Figment. In the original he was a child-like spirit of imagination, full of wonder and wide-eyed. Now he is just an obnoxious brat. Disney has dropped some hints that they may bring the original version back one day. I hope they do.

I wish you luck, Allison. Bring back the original ride! I've tried, but cannot see what Eric Idle's Tour Through the 5 Senses has anything to do with imagination. I can forgive them for taking away Dreamflight, but changing the premise of this classic was inexcusable.

I find myself incredibly indifferent to most of the changes made to EPCOT Center but this was one I really think they should've left as it was. Mind you, it was the one thing I enjoyed most in EPCOT Center back in the day so I may be a little bias XD

I have said it once and I will say it again. I wish I had been able to experience the original version of Journey Into Imagination in person. I love the Dreamfinder and Figment. They need their own movie.

This is like going to school and I feel like I am part of experiment or seeing one. Today lesson is about the senses of the imagination. True, you need senses to experience things, however you need your mind to create things.

This is how I remember the loading area, with the open atrium and glass spiral staircase to the magical land of imagination!!! It suited the building so much better letting all the light in. Now it is gift shop and the staircase boarded off by a wall :(

Hmmm, I think you just hit the nail on the head as the central failing of the new Imagination ride, going far beyond the old "not as good as the old one" everyone else -- myself included -- uses.

Figment is so adorable, he looks like a combination of Spyro and Spike from MLP FIM. In fact, now I wonder if the designers of those two characters got the idea from Figment!

With the projection technology they are using today they could really make a great version of this ride. But I know it would need to be linked to a popular IP. My hope is that with the popularity of Figment merch they make a Disney+ Imagination series that leads to an improved ride.

Excellent show. I think this is one of my favorite tributes that you did as well as the American Journeys Tributes.

Kodak doesn't own the rights to Dreamfinder, because there is Dreamfinder merchandise on sale in the Imagination Pavilion's gift shop. Besides Kodak went bankrupt last year. I think where it stands now after what we saw at D23 just recently, there is a very good to great chance that Dreamfinder and maybe the original ride and Imageworks will be brought back.

That's the EPCOT I remember as a kid! There is a sadness in the loss of innocence with this ride. Kids today don't seem to have as much imagination. There. That settles it. I'm officially OLD! :) I have fond and fun memories of The Journey Into Imagination. Especially of the Drama! Oh, and the Rainbow Tunnel and Stepping Stones! I enjoy the ride now, but why did they get rid of this? ALL of it. The Imagination is half gone...

Great video! This ride was truly unforgettable, I still remember it 25+ years later. The brief animated clips of Figment in the ride were quite nicely done. Did they ever use Figment in any animated projects?

(continued)If the original ride still existed today,I'd be the first to agree that some of the now-outdated effects would need to be replaced...but on the whole,it still holds up well.In fact,some parts,like the Dreamfinder's flying machine and the machines in the Dreamport are like early versions of steampunk. I know they can't bring this back;like all artists,the Imagineers probably hate to repeat themselves---but SURELY they can come up with something better than what they have now!!

Kudos for a monumental (and unofficial) editing job! Disney could scarcely have put this tribute together better, themselves. Ever notice - like @ 28:48 - the ride features a few instances of the original, "green" Figment- most likely done as concept art and hastily incorporated into the decor as a time saving measure. I got a kick out of spotting them even as a kid. I had forgotten how much the original ride stressed F.'s color as 'royal purple' rather than 'pink' - Figment's hetero, after all!

I recall that the voice of Dreamfinder was supposed to be a cross between character actors Hans Conried and Frank Morgan.

Everything worked perfectlly here. the pyramids the colors the clouds all made you feel like your floating in the sky without a care! The ride had so much going on at once your senses overwhelm you! then you went into the mysterious dark but magical world of sights sounds and feelings that was the imageworks. The philharmonic was special because the musical notes and lights floated out of real objects and not some screen with xbox connect technology. but like everything in the world it got cheap

With today's popularity of the "Steampunk" genre, I don't understand why this ride couldn't be redone as the original. Dreamfinder's flying machine.....classic! I miss this ride and wish it could come back, in its original form.

What an incredible creation... born out of the Figment of the Imagineers' imaginations! I wonder who the rocket scientist was that decided to tear this down instead of replacing the track... and ruining an invaluable piece of our own childhoods in the process? Certainly, must have been a collective decision - and one of the worse blunders in Disney history. This was like tearing Pirates of the Caribbean out of Magic Kingdom... no logic whatsoever. RIP Dreamfinder and old-school Fig! :(

It's sad that the upstairs is not being utilized anymore. Just saw a vid of what it looks like now. I cried seeing what become of it. I also heard that Figment's a brat and the Dream Finder got evocted.

I may be wrong but I distinctly remember liquid crystal shutter glasses that had batteries in them and cast members insisting you turn them in after the Magic Journeys 3D movie the first year it was open. Maybe polarized non powered glasses came later but I remember fiddling with the power switch and trying to get out of the theater with them as a souvenir. I was unsuccessful.

All we need is an updated version of this to replace that shitfest known as "Washed Up Monty Python Actor Thinks He's Still Funny with Figment." The year as of this post is 2013, and we're able to do some really impressive stuff with the Omnimover/PeopleMover system (which is what powered the original attraction), as well as creating much more reliable ride systems. Let's not forget, the original track is still under there. Waiting to be awoken.

The original ride was so much better because it contained something found in Disney's most successful attractions:detail.You could ride it several times and still see something new. I've ridden Journey Into Your Imagination;its sparsely decorated darkened rooms leave me cold,and putting Figment back didn't help,because instead of the childlike sprite he was as Dreamfinder's protege',he's now an annoying pest,and to a largely uninteresting scientist.

exactly...funny thing is the reason they brought it back was because people wanted it back. and now those same people (myself included) are complaining about the remake. I also miss cranium command but his is my all time favorite ride

I don't think Epcot ever really got into that, aside from "The Making of Me in the Wonders of Life pavilion.
