In this episode we take you on a journey to Uluru!
Our journey begins on the Red Centre Way as we drive towards Yulara, an iconic would famous destination nestled in the heart of Outback Australia. Upon arriving at the Yulara campgrounds, we setup camp and settle in for a week of exploration!
Rising early, we set off to see the sunrise over Uluru. As the sun peeks above the horizon, the ancient wonder comes alive with vibrant colours, casting a spellbinding glow across its many shades.
Next, we embark on the Kuniya walk and Mutitjulu Waterhole, immersing ourselves in the rich cultural heritage of the Yankunytjatjara and Pitjantjatjara (Anangu) people. The walk takes us on a journey through ancient stories and traditions, creating a deeper understanding of the land and its history.
As the day transitions into evening, we find ourselves back at camp up on the sunset viewing platform watching the day fade away of the backdrop of Uluru.
Our adventure continues as with a Star Gazers pass to the Field of Lights. Surrounded by an enchanting display of illuminated bulbs, we are transported to a magical world, gazing up at the stars and feeling a sense of wonder and tranquillity.
In the morning, we return to the Field of Lights, embracing the peaceful ambiance and savouring the beauty of this ethereal art installation. It's a moment of reflection and appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.
Next we head to Kata Tjuta, also known as The Olgas, at sunset. Taking in the stunning views, we embark on the Walpa Gorge Walk, letting the natural splendour of the landscape unfold before our eyes while the sun sets.
As the week comes to an end we embark on the Mala Walk, a serene trail that showcases the beauty of Uluru at sunset. The colours of the sky mirror the vibrant hues of the rock, creating a truly magical experience.
To end our week, we head out on a sunset camel ride which is well worth it!
Join us on this unforgettable journey as we explore the wonders of Uluru.

I last went there when I was a kid and have climbed it a few times before everyone learnt that that was not respectful. Can’t wait to go back again as an adult and also take Leisa for her first visit. Can’t wait to see her reaction.

That yellow red backdrop was very surreal and looked like it had been dropped in behind the green trees that were immediately behind you. Quite spectacular. Was there any reference to the actual scientific knowledge about that big granite rock? That part of Australia has only been underwater once before whereas the rest of the country and the world has been underwater 3 times. That rock has survived decomposition on two previous occasions. They are the last remnants of a very high range of mountains that tore Australia in half two and three eons ago. They were taller than the Himalayas. I think that story is far more mind boggling than the relatively recent tribal story which is at best 100,000 years old. That and one other part of northern WA are the oldest bits of land on Earth being billions of years old and we should also be celebrating that. There is no doubt those areas of rocks are absolutely spectacular but maybe I would also like to read the other story about them. Still, would be awesome to see them in the flesh. 😄

It is a magical place, if you have not been it is absolutely something to add to the bucket list! The rock is actually Arkose which closely resembles Granite (although it is technically sandstone so i guess some of the signs around Uluru dumb it down to Granite or are wrong!) The red is indeed a result of the oxidisation process due to the high iron content, same with most of central Australia. You made me go down the rabbit hole reading some journal articles on the formation of Uluru and it looks like this is still a live conversation. Some great free references here: scholar.google.com.au/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=uluru+geology&oq=

@@VetinaVan There's a great YT video by an Aussie geologist guy who has been documenting the whole of this country. What I wrote above is from memory after watching that video some weeks ago. So I hope I got it right. Yes I remember what he said about the difference in the rock type. Anyway I will read that article you sent the link to. No, I've never been there but do hope to go before I am too old to travel. Otherwise I have great photography like that in this video. 😀

Thanks, ill do some searching and check em out, i find the geology of some of the places we go so very fascinating, wish i knew more about it. Just doing the video now for Kings Canyon and the water swept sand formations embedded in the rock 100's of metres above sea level is fascinating. 😀
