Alkatiri's Enemies (2003) - Despite facing growing domestic criticism, Timor's Prime Minister is determined not to resort to expensive international loans.

"We fought 24 years for an independent country and we are still fighting," declares Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri. "Independence means sovereignty for all our resources." Alkatiri has the difficult task of overseeing his country's reconstruction. His critics portray him as an dangerous communist and condemn him for his protectionist policies. They advocate fast-tract development, funded by loans from the World Bank. However, Alkatiri is reluctant to mortgage his country's future. Nevertheless, the gap between Alkatiri and his political opponents is growing. There are constant rumours of a military coup and a petition is circling within his political party, Fretilin, to remove him.

A real blast from the past. I worked for UNTAET and returned to TL in January 2006. A few months later the building tensions came to a head, and the country plunged into violence and uncertainty after he sacked the "Petitioners". I witnessed first-hand and up close the police opening fire on the Petitioners right on the water-front.

@@DaengKulle795 The percentage is bigger, the number is small if compared to 22 millions of Indonesian that is starving in Jokowi era after 75 years of Independence. Indonesia after 75 years of Independence is still sit in 70th out of 107🤣🤣🤣 Say goodbye to Jokowi, Jokowi is worsen that Soeharto 🤣

@@amorsemlimite4427 wakakak lu iri ya sama Jokowi. Jokowi datang ke timor leste disambut bak dewa. PM lu entah siapa namanya ga tahu karena gonta ganti terus sering banget ke indonesia ngemis orang indo ga ada yang nyambut. Ga penting PM negara yang suka ngemis. Xanana datang ke indonesia cari perhatian goyang2 dangdut di indosiar ga ada yang peduli. Diketawain malah. Desperate banget sih buat rekonsiliasi. Wakakak.

@@amorsemlimite4427 only 9.7 percent indonesians lives under poverty compare 42 percent east timorese live under extreme poverty. Ga ada lembaga ranking dunia memasukkan indonesia sebagai negara miskin. Sedangkan timor leste mulai dari UNDP World Bank IMF semua masukkan timor leste sebagai negara miskin. Pertahankan terus prestasinya. Hehe
