In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart are now in their chateau in France. Hear about and see what they have discovered in their first week in the Château de Colombe.
Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

Since you'll be moving tons of furniture over the next few years, be sure to purchase *furniture moving straps.* They make it safer, faster and you're less likely to bump and scrape walls. By at least 4 so family and friends will be helping you move things around. Good luck on this wonderful adventure.

Hi Vicki. How is Wisconsin? Thank you so much for checking in with us! We are assessing the work that needs to be done and try to come up with a priority list. First thing: build a big dog run out back! One that they cannot escape out of! 🐕😳🐕. The entrance hall will be attacked with a steamer to remove the wallpaper and we will have to put in some time weeding. Hugs from us. 🥰🥰

You’re so sweet to take the time to update us knowing you’re still exhausted and still trying to wrap your heads around “what have we done!” Ha! Patrick, your dad is adorable! Patrick I think the word you were looking for to describe your experience travelled was " le Spectaculaire de Merde". I think your dogs are behaving very similar to most North Americans when they first moved to Europe. They just went a bit crazy and got naughty because it's so different and so interesting. Great way to meet your neighbours. Be gentle with yourself as that jet lag can really beat a fella up. Congratulations for finally getting to France.Cheers from Toronto and Happy Pride!

Thank you Susan. All true and we were completely beat. 18 months of stress and then the move. We still have some administrative stuff to overcome but we started the first renovation today. Entrance hall! That is exciting. Hugs

@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 I forgot to mention Sadie Petherick from Sadie in France used a spray on product that made peeling the wallpaper off the walls of the convent exceptionally easy. Even little Ernest was doing some peeling. It was 3 or 4 vlogs ago. Pace yourselves and rest often. Remember you moved to France for the lifestyle!Cheers from Toronto and Happy Pride!

Love that you're both able to follow your dreams. I really love the beautiful china that came out from the old dresser. There are some lovely pieces well and truly. Great to see you in your new home! I noticed the 4 flowered plates on the top shelf of the dresser. In 1918 my great uncle was killed in France in WWl. In 1928 his mother, my great grandmother, went to France to find his grave in one of those vast cemeteries with rows up rows of white crosses. While there she bought a service for at least 16 in that pattern. I not only use it daily but can still set a table for 16. (I'm in Maine.)

The rustic ‘Welsh dresser’ is certainly a bonus and looks so perfect in the kitchen. I love it, but even more, I love the beautiful china contained in it! The Sèvres tea set is particularly gorgeous as is all the blue and white. How lucky to discover that china and it would be kind to use it again and not shut it away for many more years. I have decided to use and enjoy all my fine china now as Stephanie does at la Lande. Great to see you are finally settled with all your pups home at last. 🫖☕️🦮🥰

Enjoyed your story about the blumschen kaffee. My paternal family is German and I took 3 years of German in high school years ago. I am able to understand some of what is spoken and appreciate the opportunity to bring back to mind that which has been lost to memory. So loving your channel and your chateau and all its treasures. Thank you. We have 5 of them. They are Louis XVI and from about 1760 ( we were told) when the chateau was refurbished. The restoration of that mantle that Terry and Ash had restored is amazing. 💖💗💖

Chateaus are famous for having doors that go nowhere in the interest of symmetry. I was wondering how many dishes that hutch could hold, lol, amazing. Coffee, or tea, is going to taste so good in those cups and saucers. You have found your true to your personality home, if you know what I mean. You guys were meant to be the masters of the manor. I cannot wait to see the work you are going to do.

Hey Barb. Thank you so much. Yes, I know exactly, what you mean. There is so much to do but it feels like we are meant to be here and the chateau is not rushing us. We have a big built in China cabinet in the old linen room that has a lot of decanters and glasses in it. That’s going to be fun to empty. Hugs 🥰💖🥰

I'm pretty sure that everyone wants to be right where you are too! Your doggies are magnificent. You need a good French Painter, or possibly an American and German combo painters to paint the whole family, including all the dogs, as you moved in for posterity sake! What a great place to build a life together and a bunch of stone walls outside at the same time. It doesn't get better than that. I would paint the picture of the family first and then build the place that it will hang forever.

I don't know how I missed this....so thrilled you are home and making lists. I am hoping as you go we can see some more footage of the puppers as they are such beautiful dogs! I had to giggle about the neighbors coming to see the dogs, instead of crazy cat ladies are we now coining the term deranged dog dudes? Meant with all love and respect, of course. I imagine it will be a while before things settle into a normal, be sure to take some breathers to explore the cities and villages around you, France looks so charming with all of its history. And my inner history geek is just loving the fact you are LIVING in a piece of history. We will never have anything like that back here in the US. Cannot wait to see things progress.

I know the frustration all to well of keeping them in and contained. And now you are both safely "HOME" WOW!! it's done now. And being able to share the journey with you both from day 1#! How exciting, Even moving the dresser was not only clearly the right thing to do, but the first little project here. And such lovely little finds as well. Just came across this video. I don't know I missed it from 8 days ago! The cabinet is perfect there in the kitchen. I got goosebumps while you were decorating it. Such joy! You have arrived and now the fun begins. You have a big advantage in that you can get lime to make repairs to the plaster, using the correct materials in order for the house to breath. Oak for your needed woodwork, plus many who are in various stages of renovating historic chateaus, farm houses and making new lives in France. Enjoy the process and do not rush, Rome was not built in a day. ;-)

I have been busy doing my own Reno’s and have just caught up on the last four pots. You guys are so cute and funny. I love fact that you adore the pink wallpaper In the grand salon. Stripping it off is going to be interesting. Good luck with that. Do keeps posting clips of the puppies. Goodness you could have a herd of them. Too bad dogs don’t eat vegetation. Perhaps goats? I loved seeing your parents and hope they will be back again. Have a great week.

Hi Rosanne. What did you renovate? Thank you so much. I’m a bit goofy 🤪. We will continue puppy videos and photos. Great idea. Goats will strip your entire garden. But I do love them. We talked about having some someday. Right now it would be too much. If we can get our plans realized, we will not live here alone and have more people who can help with more responsibilities. @@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Sorry for the delay in responding. Reno’s!!! It started off with a zoning law required pool fence heights to be changed. Which caused a front balcony and stairs being done. New gates, paving stones, and flower boxes. That was last summer. Still have a sixty foot balcony to be redone. However, I was bored this January, so I demoed a bathroom from the fifties in turquoise blue which included a cast iron tub. Those suckers weigh a ton. As I only do Reno’s on weekends, it has taken awhile. I am finally at the paint stage. I do have two other bathrooms in case you were worried. So I know what you are going to be going through. I wish I was there helping you as I love both demo, rebuild, paint and gardening. No, I don’t cook. Have fun.

Well done with the move and the work so far. My partner and I moved from the uk to Spain some years ago and the first thing we did was buy a car in very broken Spanish so well done with your French. Really looking forward to your future videos.

Glad you are recovering from the move! You are both impressive, with so many jobs to undertake. The stairway is beautiful, and the railing design typically 17th century. Wall decor in the stairway may have been faux stonework at some time, with stone 'joints' painted on plaster, you might find vestiges of something when you remove the existing wall paper. Looking forward to the next episode!

Sorry I missed the premier and the chat. Any hoo... I am excited to hear about your first few days. One bathroom huh? Ugg. Could you run over and use the bathrooms in the rental apartments? I like where you put the hutch in the kitchen. It definitely looks better there. Can't wait to see you start on the kitchen. The entry way seems a bit daunting to me. I don't like the idea of crumbling plaster and all that sanding. I suppose you will need a blow torch to kill off all those weeds in the courtyard. So much work to do! Crack on boys! sending pets and kisses to your puppies.
