In this week's Friday episode, Patrick and Stuart start the demolition by taking out the troublesome fireplace hearth in the cuisine that was not original to the chateau. Friends John the Electrician, and Tony from ‪@notquiteachateaudiy‬ stop by to help. Tony also attempts to "go down the rabbit hole" to look for hidden spaces under the chateau kitchen floor. They also receive a package from a patron friend with toys for all of their dogs. 🥰

If there was enough room for all of the dog's, I don't think that they could have surpassed Tony's excitement & enthusiasm for digging up that bone they'd buried under the kitchen floor! I believe given a job, Tony has One Goal in mind, The End! He kinda reminds me of a honey badger, Determined!

What a great discovery you all... this old girl I'm sure holds a lot more secrets under her skirt than we all realize. Was neat to see a garden hose being used indoors for anything because as you both probably well know we don't often see that here in the states much. HATS OFF TO TONY FOR ANOTHER GREAT JOB!!!!

Good morning Stuart & Patrick, what a fun video. So glad the electrical Jack Hammer did the job with Toni in operation. He is a no nonsense man, he just has a way of getting things done, smartly and properly and it's all like a breeze to him. Everybody worked together to lovely, digging and removing all that horrible rubble and the end result a beautiful concrete slab. All that can dry properly in the meantime while you get on with the rest. The dogs are really adorable, they so loved their toys. So Terrier in their behaviour!! They look so beautiful and healthy. Good job Tony and John for sorting out the hearth for Patrick and Stuart. Is there any stuffing left in those toys? The 3 terriers we had many years ago would have ripped them to bits in minutes. Our 6 year old lab Buddy still has his teddy from the day we brought him home. Xxx

It was fascinating to see the kitchen hearthstones being annihilated lol, I wonder what on earth is under there, we’ll never know. watching the dogs receive their gifts brightened up my evening, they are so cute 😊

Hello handsome. There is something about men and power tools……. I have to agree. 😮😊 It was sooooo tempting to excavate. We will never know how old that cellar is. 😩😉. It will be fun when you actually meet them. 😊😊😊 Aren’t the little monkeys a joy when they play (not so much when they bark like crazy at nothing) 😂😂😂. But honestly, they are so full of life and we were sitting outside laughing. Gonnie is the Patron who send the toys. That was such a fun surprise. I told Stuart to stay off his ankle and he did….. until I wasn’t looking. 😂. Oh well. I couldn’t sit still either. Love from Colombe.

Tazmanian Devil Tony was really getting through those stones and bricks but when he found the void under the kitchen flooring, he really put in high gear! Fascinating and always an option to venture into the unknown at some future date. Carry on with the kitchen and original plans! Such a joy to see the doggies and their new toys! I know you know each one of them at just a glance, but it would be nice for us to get to know them as well......Maybe on a slow news day one of these years! They are just charming and so curious! Any minute I thought we might get a jump scare or something when Stewart said it smells of decay LOL Those dogs are beautiful. I love when they are a bit more natural in appearance than when they have the typical Airedale/Irish Terrier cut. You have a bigger pack than us ... at one time we had 8 dogs :) Now we are down to four and one guest (our former foster dog whose dad is going through chemo and they cannot care for such a big dog atm). Our youngest dog (LOL) is 7 and it goes all the way up to 14 now. Last year our oldest dogs had to let go at 19 and 15 respectively. Ours are rescues from all over Europe, mainly Spain, Italy and Moldavia.

Thank you for a wonderful comment. My curls are wild….. glad you like them. I’m sometimes close to chop them off…..😮. To y was about 20 feet from breaking through to down under 😂🤣😂. And the dogs were so happy with their toys. Fun to watch. Stuart has such a hard time to stand back. On the other hand, he puts in 20-30 hours creating vlogs each week. Wasn’t that a wonderful gift? We contacted the former owners. There is a room down there that was the boiler room for the old heating. But how old it is, no one knows. 😮. I love the tractor. Wonderful. Time capsule will be great. We got the idea from Terry and Ash at Escape to the dream. They are dear friends. 😊. I am enjoying making Flammküchle from Alsace. Yummy. ❤😊❤

Look at Tony go! It looks like he made quick work of removing all the brick and stone. Are you going to remove the old tile floor? It looks like you'll be laying the new on top of the old. How will you manage the floor sill from the foyer to the kitchen without tripping when you enter? Your dogs are so much fun to watch. I hope Stuart's ankle gets better soon.

The doorways in the kitchen are all higher than the current floor. Bringing the floor higher with new stone floor actually brings it up to the current thresholds.

We discussed this many times. The tiles are so strongly bonded and finally a tile layer asked if we want to be insane or happy. Hence, we lay it on top. Great comment. Thank you.

Personally, I have always enjoyed being destructive constructively even if messy.. Many hands make light work, aren't Tony and John wonderful? Oh that fabulous tractor. I think Tony was aiming for China through that rabbit hole...lol. A difficult task was completed, and you are making great strides in your kitchen makeover. I love your Irish terriers, and now you have nine, my goodness. They are so playful, and they are good at sharing their toys. They will even let you have the little one, Patrick... Stuart said so! He was definitely aiming for the Southern Hemisphere! 😂🤣😂. This was a headache task and it went unbelievably smooth. The new kitchen is on its way. 😊. All of our dogs play well together. They know that we are the alphas in the house and don’t have to compete for that position. It helps! I love that little bear. 🤣😂🤣. Thank you so much. 😊😊

Patrick your hair is so floofy!! I love it!! Tony is a machine!! The jackhammer was nearly 3/4 his size!! Mind you it just carved through that concrete monstrosity like a hot knife through butter yay! I saw "Ruby" getting put to good use! The toys and the dogs were great fun. I used to have 3 dogs, 9 dogs sounds a bit intimidating, but I only have one at the moment, a boy Auggie, king charles cavalier, the sweetest, goofiest, laziest boy ever, but I love him. I am posting some Tasmania postcards to include in your time capsule, and it took about 3 1/2 weeks for something from France to get to me (they posted it on 17th Feb and I got it a few days ago) so hopefully, my packet will make it in time :)

@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 and my husband's mother is from Germany and his father was Polish! It's a very small world really. I love love love King Charles Cavaliers. I have had 5 of them over them years. I started with Maltese terriers, but once I got my first Cav, I never looked back. They have all been girls up to Auggie. He is our first boy. He is such a mummy's boy. He has a hip problem *genetic* so he is not very active, but he follows me everywhere, and I mean everywhere!! He is 8 this year. When I arrived in Tasmania 19 years (aaahh has it really been that long?) I had 3 girls. Slowly they passed away. I brought another Ruby from a local breeder, but she developed megaesophagus and oh my god what a terrible terrible disease. She was always a petite little thing full of energy. Only 5kg, but she was 3.5kg at the end, it was so terribly hard. We couldn't face another girl, so we thought we will get a boy! And what an absolute joy he has been. They are the most gentle-natured, soft, squishable dogs! And a beautiful sunny, although a bit cool as we are at the end of summer here, day it is.

Stuart, the half of you did a great job!! It’s truly amazing how much you accomplished in a day. The tractor is serving you well and saving your backs but how nice to have Tony and John making it so much fun! Yikes, I couldn’t believe how quickly Tony was pulling out stones and going deeper and deeper. I was thinking to myself, “oh no this isn’t a good idea, the plans for the kitchens focal point is right there, don’t pursue this!!!” Happily, you filled it in. I think there are many mysteries within the walls and floors of the chateau, some are good finds and others should just remain covered and a mystery for future generations. But if walls could talk, the secrets would be very intriguing!!! The pups tails wagging with joy when you tossed the toys to them was so sweet. You’re very good daddy’s. xx

This is what the venting hole is that you have uncovered in your chateau. "The hottest air always rises above that which is less to have passed through the cavities of the chimney, being warmer than that which is there, rises there to the top of the floor, and, as it cannot take place there without driving out and bringing out at the same time as many from the room, and that he can only come out of it through the chimney which is the only exit he finds and which is below, he always comes out of the air from below as he enters and he up from above; however, the air from below is also the coldest, since the hottest rises above that which is less so;… it is therefore always the coldest air which leaves the room at the same time. time it gets warmer.

Hi Clive. Wow would that have been amazing! The brick wall was added in the 1970s. Behind it is a wall made of concrete. So the fireplace is about 20cm less deep than it was originally. We have artisanal tiles for that wall. A really pretty white. Nothing like subway tiles. The dogs playing after a day of work, sitting in the sun, was like a vacation. Love your comment. We still have cabinets and out cooker! That will change next week. As for smoothly….. our amazing stove is delayed by 2 months. We ordered that last year end of September….. 😮😂😮. Hugs

OML! What an exciting discovery!!! 🤩 A whole new but old world below the chateau! The excitement is too much!! 🥰🥳🥳🥳🤯 So many discoveries with many questions, like, why is there an entryway under the fireplace??? Or is the entryway somewhere else and Tony tunneled through the foundation which holds up the fireplace??? Also I now wonder if there is another entryway somewhere in or outside the chateau that leads to the void below....so extremely interesting......I have questions 🤣🤣🤣🤣 🤦‍♀️ this is all just super exciting!🤩😍 Tony is only doing what we all would have done 🤣🤣🤣🤣...dig up your kitchen 🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰 The work done to the fireplace is amazing. Hi Frankie. Wasn’t that amazing? There is a room below. We will never know when it was built but it was used for the boiler for the heating system from the 1890s……. We were so tempted 😊❤😊❤. There will be other discoveries, I am certain. 😊😊

We now know that the original fireplace was about 2 feet deeper. The current bricks and a concrete wall behind it make that less deep. We will make it look like an 1860s fireplace in a kitchen. We saw a few and it will look great. ❤❤

Hi Leigh. Stuart’s ankle is healing but it could be faster, if he’d be resting more. I’d be even worse though…. 😮😢😂. Our dogs parlay and run all the time. Love it. There are stairs and we now know there is a room that held the boiler 130 years ago…. 😮😮😮. I’m glad we filled it too. Love from Colombe. 💕🥰💗
