INSTALLATION of 6 CHANDELIER light fixtures, chateau RENOVATION - Journey to the Château, Ep. 108

In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart repair and install 6 light fixtures in the Chateau. Chandeliers (French: lustres) are branched, decorative lighting fixtures that hold a number of bulbs or candles and are suspended from a ceiling. Patrick and Stuart have acquired these chandeliers for the chateau from brocantes, emmaus, and auctions, and all of which are in need of some repair and cleaning. They also provide an update on their busy schedule for July.
Join Patrick and Stuart on their journey to find a neglected, forgotten, or crumbling château or castle in France, and then continue to follow them as they work on its restoration, rénovation, decoration, and furnishing. Along the way, they will also create and share videos on their preparation for having gîtes for guests, and an event venue in their chateau (wedding, birthday, anniversary, organization or club meetings, retreats, etc.).

The “ new” chandeliers are all beautiful . Nothing like crystals to bring elegance to a room. Such a mish mash of different era lamps before !🙈the one from the grand salon is spectacular! As soon as I saw the old light fixture I immediately thought of my mother-in-law. She, along with so many suburban “homemakers” in the 70’s/80’s had “Home Interior” parties. It was the equivalent to Tupperware parties, but for home decor. You’ll find a lot of decor from these parties at garage/yard sales here in Minnesota. That’s because our children are helping us get rid of this stuff in preparation of sending us off to the nursing home. I can now spot Home Interior decor at 100 yds with one eye tied behind my back!

I must say the Venetian chandelier is my absolute favorite, because it is very unique. I have never seen anything like it, you must show us the chandelier when all the crystals are on it. They are all beautiful but the last one takes my breath away!!!! Can’t wait to see it all lit up!!!

Thank you so much Stephanie. I do digress at times and we laughed with Tony and Jane because I started to say something and took a turn….. till I realised it. 😂😂😂. Too funny. We are really pleased with how the chandeliers fit in each room. That oak and earth ware one I absolutely despised. 😮🤣😉 Plums are now done and that was very satisfying. The right lighting fixture makes a world of difference. Loved your choices. I have often seen fixtures that really need to be trashed in some homes. I held off for a few years before getting my dream fixture for my family room and I am so glad I did. As an avid thrifter I found the exact one I wanted and I got it for 50 cents LOL! The lady said, "Oh that's just parts you can have it for 50 cents". I gave her the money and ran home before she changed her mind. My hubby put it up and it's perfect! So I got the fixture I wanted for really nothing and the original price was almost $1000. 😁

It must feel nice to be able to like your light fixtures in each room you enter (or more of the rooms anyway). ♥️♥️♥️ I’m looking forward to seeing the chandeliers when they’re finished, but totally understand why that will take some time. What a wonderful episode and your cleaning and restoring of the chandelier.We have been spending 2 months at our apartment in Dijon, its a part of an old Biscuit factory called Villa Pernot. We have one chandelier we bought for our main room! We didn’t restore it but bought it restored. So l’m very impressed with your hard work! Love your episodes and your creativity.

I am glad the electricity is off. I had my Czech crystal chandelier hung in my condo. I had to help the electrician hang it because of its weight.

Darlings, i loved all chandeliers but the Venetian was so pretty with the rose details. I understand Stuart sometimes Venetian glassware can have to much colour. Patrick and Stuart, I think you are both fascinating and I’m not surprised that you are very popular and in constant demand. No doubt you enjoy it as you are very cordial and friendly but I also believe you can be overwhelmed and you need to gird yourselves so you can enable enough personal time for yourselves to breath and have a bit more privacy. I guess that’s the price you pay for having loving and engaging personalities. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not criticizing … just trying to make a point that many of those close to you may be overlooking and hesitate to say. July is a popular month. We have 3 in our family in July. Are you going to bake the birthday cakes Stuart? Hard work doing those chandeliers, but so worth it. I, too, can't wait to see the finished one for the "Grand Salon"

The chandeliers are a massive improvement. I like them all, what I saw. The fourth, my least favorite had the good fortune of replacing a truly hideous one. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but not Wow! I understand your aversion to Venetian chandeliers. I either love them or hate them. I think some are clownish looking. Stephanie Jarvis came across an oblong shaped one in Venice that would look fabulous with the right decorating. You're making noticeable progress, step back and take stock. Good luck with your poles. When everyone is getting their utilities buried, they're giving you poles. LOL! Can you train wisteria to climb a utility pole?🌿

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, love all the new chandeliers! The first one, clear sort of box is so beautiful, much better light without the frosted glass. All the others have their own unique characters for the different rooms. Would love to see the Venetian glass completed, I am sure it will be very exquisite!! I also do not really like the modern coloured glass chandeliers, but each to their own taste. It was quite strange you mentioning the power off because I was thinking I hope they have switched off the mains or else. I know how males work and they never read instructions it is just a male "thing". Glad to hear it is going great with the git rentals, it all helps to make ends meet. Sounds lovely with the birthdays coming up, so it will be a month of true celebrations. It was a most enjoyable video as always, glad to see all is going well with you. As always Stuart and Patrick just love to see the daily for you/weekly for most of us upgrades to your stunning Château de Colombe. Good lumens, beautiful and appropriate lighting for each room makes such a difference in every home or Château but is often overlooked and not included in the renovations budget.

Lighting should be among the first things one should think about and is often an afterthought. We mostly know what we would like and started searching and hunting right away. I now use a baby wipe.. like lysol wipes to clean the crystals... one swipe and they are clean and they dry on their own.

The chandeliers are beautiful and make such a difference. I often wonder what "designers" in the 60's and 70's where thinking, to me, so much ugliness came out of era... maybe the last owners took the chandeliers with them when they sold, swapping them for some found at the local Emmaus! I'm glad all your doggies are well. Keep laughing... and keep polishing! ❤🦘

Lovely 💖 sparkles ! Like you guys, my parents did all the home maintenance which resulted in a lot of power outages and my dad kicking the washing machine and cursing a lot😂but it was an ancient old ruin with leaky roof that I loved with a passion hence my love of anything old and quirky! I will definitely plan to book the BnB Venetian Chandelier room. Planning my first ever solo trip to France and UK from Australia in 2024 as my husband died a few weeks ago.
