Unreal. It doesn't seem possible for humans to create such beautiful music. How did they get it out of them? Joy Division is seriously on a level like Mozart or Beethoven working in their own respective eras. Or like Picasso or Monet if you want to cross into different types of art.

Always amazes me how Joy Division is simultaneously the most late70s/80s sound you could imagine, and also completely timeless. Really great things seem to transcend whatever is circumstantial about them.

...What if you were speaking about New Order? Ian death or alive, would have changed what New Order achieved? I dont think so. They were already experiencing with electronic stuff. Atmosphere (what a song) has more to do with synth-pop than with punk. Or a clear bridge song from different stages. Postpunk!.

their next album would of been up there with THE greatest albums of all time, ceremony/atmosphere/LWTUA/in a lonely place/dead souls etc etc, but factory and JD would of probably left a lot off and had just as many more incredible songs?

The audacity to try to compare Sam Herring to Ian Curtis is asinine and a complete brain dead take You can compare their stage “dancing” but Ian is on a whole another level lyrically. And I’ve seen Future Islands, 4 times in fact, they haven’t been good/great since 2013 and none of their music even comes close to Unknown Pleasures and Closer!
