It was later she learned sadness was a key part in life and its okay to express other emotions. Now, she IS the more experienced boss, but as head emotion, its her job to make sure their child is running smoothly and has a good life with ALL of them

And I just so happen to be one of the happy ones. Joy is the most difficult emotion to have, especially during difficult times. It’s like setting up a barrier to keep all the other emotions out so they won’t try to tear you down.

Unironically, this scene is what solidified to me that the writers really cared about Inside Out 1 that they wanted this sequel to expand on it and be a true sequel instead of most of the other sequels we usually get post Cars 2 Pixar. Joy here feels like she really learnt her lesson from the first movie, and her limit break here is her expressing what she had to deal with even during the first movie, then end it off with something she learnt from the first movie: That she isn't perfect and she doesn't have all the answers, that Riley can't be happy 24/7. Not just that but Fear, Disgust, and Anger are probably expressing the baggage they had to carry before/during Inside Out 1 too, like the effects of Joy's previous toxic positivity really took a toll on them, with now thinking Joy caused this and that as typical previous Joy, she'd just scrape it off. Joy now probably agrees that she was, indeed, delusional back then. But now we seen how much she's grown as a... person.. emotion.. manifestation entity.

I love how in both movies 💛Joy's attitude can be interpreted as "If you don't help, don't bother", but at the same time it's very different when it's to repress someone ( 💙Sadneess) for lack of growth as a character, and then to express something REAL that is not making things better. Having experienced that same thing before was helpful, because she is trying to improve herself without affecting others, trying to adapt. And despite everything ❤Anger, 💜Fear and 💚Disgust did not value her effort and that is why it is even more valid. PS: Yes, it was somewhat her fault for stop 🧡Anexity from acting first, but in reality what she did was out of 💛Joy's control and they also had a difficult morning. The movie is amazing, because not only does Riley act like a teenager, but her emotions also reflect that lack of maturity in a way

This scene honestly solidified just how patient Sadness was compared to the other 3. As much of a damper sadness seems to be on everything she is definitely there for inner healing and proves to be just as important to that process as Joy is. Anger, Disgust, and Fear mean well but they complain constantly, put Joy down in times of frustration and, at their worst, can be quite toxic people to work with. They are doing more complaining than helping and it really drives home, how them being in charge nearly destroyed Riley.

This is what you would say peak character development from Joy here. Because in Inside Out 2, there were LOTS of character development from pretty each EVERY character, especially Joy from her first act and in the first Inside Out movie. In that scene, I like how Joy gets pissed over being delusional and positively toxic of Riley’s puberty, considering how she was about to say the f-bomb.

This scene is an example to all of us that even the happiest person(or in this case, emotion) has their limits. In fact, even emotions have their own emotions. As we saw in the first Inside Out, and now the second one, Joy is not *always happy*; it’s just her job/duty to make Riley happy. Even if Joy is quite joyful for most of the time, whatever you do, DO NOT cross her!

Honestly, they should have had her say a swear word. Just bleep it like SpongeBob Sailor Mouth, after all if I recall. Anger said they know one swear in first film.
