I enjoyed your performance, but nothing will come close to sitting with a group of older men or women. The body language, the hand motions. The understated humor. The " Back in the day " stories. My ex husband was a Dakota whose mother was from Standingrock, so I was fortunate to meet the warmest humans I've ever known. Alcohol may have taken my marriage but nothing will ever take the warmth. Standing Rock = all night whist tournaments!!! The best ever!!

That's a great anecdote! I'm mohawk and it's always nice to hear about positive experiences from non natives with us NDNS. maybe it's because I grew up in a predominantly Latino/Asian neighborhood or something, but there was only one other "american Indian" in my school (that was known) and often it seemed like we ha to unfairly be spokespersons for an entire continent of people, and I apologize to those who had me as their "representative" of native people LMAO 😂 let just say I was something else.... anyways, I agree, the elders always hav the best stories full of humor, wisdom, badassery, and humility.

Im not a half breed but my great Grandmother was Elizabeth Whitefeather. So I still have the enzyme to drink. While my great Grandmother did not pass on the enzyme to deal with Injuns. Lol. I do have beautiful black hair at 43. Thank you great grand ma.

Native people are funny. I don't know if it's because hardship fosters humor or something deeper. I had a good friend when I was in my twenties who would trick me into going on the craziest outings... A native guy from warm springs in Oregon. I had the best time for no good reason being picked on and picking back on him. When his mother discovered I was part wallowa tribe, she said, "see him, this is what's handsome white boy could look like". He called me handsome boy for years after that. Miss that guy. I haven't laughed so hard since.

Ahhh One thing he forgot to mention is some of us do..."Chair dancing" Chair dancing you say? Yes that is when those grooves are hitting the right notes but we are too out of it to get up on the dance floor so we sit in our chair and groove!! You can tell by our legs thumping away like we are at the Pow wow!! safer sometimes to just sit and Dance Hey? 😉
