@@tomasrodriguez8296 I'm 196 years old as I got my first boner when I was 12 years old back in 1839. It was the year a Cyclone slammed south eastern India with high winds and a 40 foot storm surge, destroying city of Coringa. Storm waves sweep inland, destroying 20,000 ships and killing an estimated 300,000 people. These things are just a distant memory as a young lad behind the barn whacking away vigorously as the sun set. I now have had arthritis the past 101 years but my wrist is very strong for my age

The four bony elongated fingers on each arm allow them to change the shape of the wing in a moment. They can make a 180° turn in less than half of their wingspan. Some have short wide wings for maneuverability whilst others have long narrow wings for traveling distances. The thin membrane of their skin heals 10 times faster than human skin. The hairs on their minute wings allow them to detect turbulence which might cause them to stall.

One more cool thing, is that bats can still fly with a broken wing. If they break a bone, the swelling around the break act as a splint. So while the bone heals, they can still fly as normal.

Bats are fascinating creatures. I lived in san antonio for a couple of years and during my time there one of the many beautiful, and awesome things i had the opportunity to see were watching bats attack swarms of bugs that had gathered under streetlights in a parking lot. Watching one come in, seeing the moment he chooses wich bug he wants, then zeroeing on it in an intercept course and the funny little half flip as he gobbles the bug and disappears back into the shadow. Their success rate was every time, it seemed like. Once chosen, the bug has a better chance of spontaneous combustion, than escape. One night, i saw a guy pull up in a truck, get out, and walked up under the light swinging a tshirt over his head in a circular motion. I thought he was crazy! But after a few seconds bats started swooping down close to him eventually getting close enough that he changed the swing a little bit and caught the bat with a tshirt. Immediately he went to the back of his truck and gently removed the bat from the shirt. With expert skill he measured wingspan, sex, weight, and crimped a small tag on the base of his wing. A quick stick for a blood sample and the bat was given a big grub and left on the camper top to fly away when he was done eating the grub. I talked to the guy after he did 5 more and he was from an organization that monitors bats for rabies outbreaks, other diseases, diminishing populations, locating known roosting caves, or other structures that they hide in during the day. I talked this guys ear off with question after question and learned alot.

Sounds like an interesting job. One summer bats kept falling down the chimney into the fireplace, (never figured out why the chimney was so attractive to them) like every single night and often multiples in a single night. They couldn't fly back out the chimney so they would crawl out into the house and fly around. For a while there I was tossing towels over them to catch them. Unfortunately I ended up injuring a couple of them, they were a lot more delicate than I realized at first. After a while I realized I could just prop the door open and as soon as they got within like 15 ft of the door they could tell there was an opening and flew out.

@@miles11we its amazing how quickly they can recognize a way out. These are fascinating creatures and are an integral part of our ecosystem. We owe it to these furry little guys, to protect and preserve their habitats, and their gratitude will be seen with clear skies, free of swarms upon swarms of disease carrying pests. Our crops, our health, and ultimately our lives are possible in part to the voracious appetite on wings.

@@traviscapehart7590 yeah definitely, I think we just need to get the general public more on board. They are kinda cute but it seems liked a lot of people think they are the pests and you are gonna get rabies if they are anywhere near you.
