Tony ferguson trains solo a lot. His work ethic is so high his coaches can give him a few workouts and a plan and they trust he will work just as hard without them there. If not harder
@MarcJanus
@MarcJanus 3 жыл бұрын
and that is exactly what fucked him up rn, being his own head coach did work until he met the current top guys with high level gameplans while tony was throwing sand at them. I love tony, but he needs to get a good coach asap
@TheGanjologist
@TheGanjologist 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarcJanus like justin gaethje fighting khabib. Dont change your style when you did it that way the whole time. Show up with the skills that got you invited to the party in the first place. So I cant agree that tony should change, especially at this point. Only tony can decide whether he's happy doing what he's doing or not and what way is right after the dust settles. Like Brian ortega, just because you lost 1 fight doesnt mean you need to change things up. But when you do lose, now you have the right to say "ive been wanting change, you didnt give it to me, I'm changing things myself, righteously" because your coaches are saying "hey, stick to the gameplan thats been the same for the past decade. Look at the success it has had you cant change now." "Here, do some more of the same mitt work youve al ways done". Tony and ortega are similar in that sense. Only they know what they want. And what they want is paramount, because they have the ethic to back it up. Just saying, one size doesnt fit all
@MarcJanus
@MarcJanus 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheGanjologist i am not saying he should change his style at all. He needs someone that structures his camp and prevents him from doing dumb shit like doing 2 weight cuts in 2 weeks. Seems to me that tony sometimes gets lost in his own training regimen and that shows for example in the fight against oliveira where he abandoned some really fundamental stuff in some transitions even though his bjj is really good as we seen in the past. Cant do that against a killer like oliveira. Tony needs someone who looks at the opponents strength and weaknesses and makes tony work in those departments while allowing him to be creative.
@TheGanjologist
@TheGanjologist 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarcJanus from what I could tell that was the gameplan for tonys camp already. I might agree that he has yes men in his camp because he doesnt want anybody above himself. But thats a different problem than changing the way he trains and fights. But I fully agree there needs to be more balance and fundamentals in his camp, even if he chooses to break the fundamentals anyway. Because thats just what tony does, he's an unorthodox fighter. I never thought tony was a world beater. But I still believe he has the best shot against khabib, because khabib is textbook, and tony writes his own book. About ninja turtles lmao

A good coach is very important for being a champ for a long period of time. No matter how long you train for there’s always more to learn in the fight game you get to a point where at the top level where you both have the conditioning to go the whole fight without being gassed out. It’s up to the coach(most of the time at the top a team) to come up with a viable game plan to expose and take advantage of your opponents weaknesses. Look at the top fighters in the world the guys that are considered the goats of there sport. They all had coaches that took them to the next level. Of course a big factor is who you are as a person how smart, athletic, capable you are but none of the top guys in the world would ever be considered goats or stay top guys for a long time without there coaches. If you take the loma vs Lopez fight for example Lopez won that fight by putting his coaches(dad) game-plan into action. You see this when watching one of the videos uploaded on yt his dad studying lomas fights with another coach and his dad saying what Lopez needs to do to stop loma from doing what he usually does. At the time I thought the guy was chatting shit but Lopez did exactly what his dad said I’m the video and hindered loma from fighting how he usually fights.

I’ve always said no matter the sport, cardio and conditioning is the most important part of your training. You gotta get the blood pumping with as much oxygen your blood can carry. Weight resistant training I feel is a real benefit as well train with weights and compete without the weight and you’re going to be unstoppable.

Here's the thing. I don't think this is so crazy. The problem with getting coaching past the very basics is that other people's bad habits and the way other people do things are passed on, and the thing is, we have different bodies and different mindsets and you may be boxing me into this idea or this technique that really isn't compatible with me, and I may never know that. This is not to say that you should never have coaching at all, or that you should not work with other fighters to hone your skills. That always has to happen, because just as it may hurt you to pick up someone's bad habits, someone may show you a different way of doing something you're struggling with that breaks you through. But he's exactly right about conditioning, and I don't know why that's not simply common knowledge. Once you are highly proficient and well rounded in a fight style, the main thing that separates fighters, outside of those with just a natural fight IQ, is the strength and conditioning. You know how to punch, you know how to kick, you know how to block, and so do I - now who is going to start getting tired and making mistakes sooner? Even if my fight IQ is lower than yours, if my conditioning holds up good for 4 rounds and you're winded by the 3rd, then we begin to get on a level playing field and pretty soon you'll be making worse choices than I will.

More to it than that. You don't win a Glory KB title by being a pray and spray fighter. Any Glory champ would run meat thru their equivalent weight class in the UFC in terms of striking.

I’ve trained at some of the biggest mma camps in the sport and I honestly feel like they don’t teach anything out of the ordinary. Then again, fighters generally are not smart so it’s easy to dupe them into thinking they need you. I always just had high level training partners that I became friends with and we’d share knowledge with each other and advice during and after training. Most of these “mma coaches” are just dudes that don’t wana work and rather get paid for bullshit. Unless you are just starting out, you don’t need a damn coach. Know yourself/your own body, and be around skilled training partners and share advice when possible

I've always trained by myself and made it from a skinny 154 pound guy to bein over 200 pounds with 18 inch arms no drugs or any type of supplements involved if you want to achieve something you can with hard discipline my next goal is 220 pounds 20 inch arms all natural and i will achieve that too
