The cost to maintain a Corolla is so much lower there really is no comparison. The Corolla is extremely reliable, but nobody seriously compares its performance to a Ferrari.

@KiwiPowerNZ 7 жыл бұрын
Mine is 2006 and like all Corollas it has 300,000 km on it and there's nothing wrong with it. I'm looking for a Porsche 944 S2 for an alternative car but I'll keep the Corolla as a daily just to see how long it lasts.

A friend of mine bought an older Ferrari back in the early '80s. Then they used the same oil for both the engine, transmission and transaxle. Turns out, it was a balancing act between getting the right viscosity, so as the gearbox worked, the engine did not overheat and the gears did not "graunch". Worst thing was sitting and waiting for 5 minutes till the oil warmed up, the oil pressure got up to scratch and then he had to drive at under 4000RPM for 10 miles to get the gearbox up to temperature. So temperamental this car was. It was either a 308 like Magnum PI or a Berlinetta with the fancy strakes. My memory eludes me, but it was such a bitch to get ready!! And then, after driving it for any period over an hour, you had to let the car idle for a minute or two to stabilize all the temps and pressures, otherwise seals and hoses would fail. Not a car to just get in and drive to the shops. Any wonder that the Honda/Accura NSX was such a hit back in the day. An everyday supercar, that just needed servicing every 6,000 miles, like your Civic or Corolla!!

This is why the first gen Acura NSX is such a legendary car compare to these Ferrari and Lambo...
@RealAvus
@RealAvus 7 жыл бұрын
Big Boss: the most common first gen NSX problem was "windows regulator" problem and it is a $200-500USD problem. NSX was also the first mass produced car with all-aluminum body. So if you crash it, the body repair bill will be expensive. (but I don't think it is cheap to repair a Ferrari body too) Beside these, it will just keep running reliably like any regular Honda. NSX was the car that forced the European auto manufacturers to make more user friendly and more reliable "supercar".

Daumex another guy who know shit about NSX. When Honda developed the NSX, its rival target was Ferrari 348 - a Ferrari that many said was one of the WORST Ferrari of all time. Honda NSX was able to beat Ferrari 348 on straight, curve, track, quality, reliability, user friendliness PLUS all these at a much lower price point!! NSX HAD FORCED FERRARI TO MAKE A BETTER FERRARI. F355 was the result. This is why the NSX is legendary. Just having a V8 with more HP plus a big price tag doesn't make the F355 special. And let me tell you another reason why the first gen NSX is legendary. The Honda NSX had a HUGH influence on Gordon Murray how he designed McLaren F1 - another legendary supecar that Ferrari couldn't beat it for the next 10 years!! I didn't make these sh!t up and all young Ferrari fankids should really google/read/watch youtube why the first gen NSX is so legendary. You can start read the below link. www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a28632/acura-nsx-mclaren-f1-gordon-murray/

Ferrari parts costs went to the sky in the 1990's I recall when I worked at the dealer, we sent a TR out the door with a complete engine overhaul including a pair of brand spankin-new cylinder heads for 25K. If you think a lot of that money went to the tech, guess again, I was earning less than a Seattle bus driver.

I have been an auto technician all my life. I am 3 times recertified ASE Master tech with L-1 certification. The problems you mentioning this car having is a sign of poor manufacturing and poor engineering. You can keep your Farrari. I'd rather have a vette any day of the week. A vette is better engineered and has more creature comforts and costs 1/3 of the price and has a fraction of the maintenance cost. Maybe the Farrari has some kind of edge over a vette in a road race but I hear they are very close in specs. Who cares. Who is going to drive much in a road race? You buy a Farrari to impress your friends and to drive on the street. Another option that will out perform a Farrari any day of the week is any year A36 Bonanza Aircraft. New a Bonanza will cost about the same price but is much lower in maintenance and you can fly in 3 dimensions and its faster and you can go more places and get to where you want to go in short order. All my comments are of course just my own opinions. When you're old like me you get very opinionated!

Really all of these "necessary" maintenance sound like bullshit Ferrari made up to bring in some additional profit to their service departments. They know their clients are all rich and most will do what they suggest without question. What kind of service requires pulling the motor and why? I seriously question how much difference it would make if you didn't perform that maintenance...

An interesting point of note is that these cars have a lot in common with the ordinary beetle. You can yank a beetle motor in about 20 minutes if you really are slow and have never done it before. I bet it takes hours to drop one of these...
@VISEDITIONISTS
@VISEDITIONISTS 7 жыл бұрын
Cory Day W you obviously have no clue about high performance/exotic vehicle maintenance, although I do agree with you about the service dept more than likely exaggerating some stuff to pad the bill; that shit happens whether you're rich or not and Ferrari or Toyota if you're taking to the dealership for maintenance you have no clue whether they are or not. As for having to drop the motor for servicing, there are a plethora of services that require this to be done, and again Ferrari or Toyota almost 95% of the cars on the road have at least one service that requires this; more likely the higher end vehicles require it more often, due to the manufacturer shoehorning in an engine into a shoebox so to speak.

I had a 575M for 4 years. Did 36000 work related miles across Europe. Spent about $2500 on it in that time and then sold it for $5000 more than I bought it for. Not all Ferrari the same.... :-)

If you want to save your money. You should buy Prius Hybrid. It is super save money and super safe car. One month paid petrol at least 100£.

I own a Ducati Monster S4R so I know where your coming from when you say that this car is the best! My monster is the best! and even it cost's me a fortune to keep on the road for little use but just riding it once a month makes it all worthwhile! Plus not everyone has one or get's to drive one! IT'S WORTH IT BOY'S......

Its definitely one of the nicer older Ferraris, but its known for its reliability problems. One can buy that car relatively cheaply, but I would stay away from that car (just as you stated, don't buy...).

A month after, if the $11k engine out servicing wasn't done properly, why would the owner have to pay another $10 to have them fix the mucked up job? That's messed up..
