Thanks for the video. Will this work with Apple trees?
@JSacadura
@JSacadura 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does work with apple trees. Just wait until the rootstock is awake, with the sap flowing for better results. Keep the scions in the fridge wrapped in kitchen film until they are needed.

@@JSacadura .... sir, Namaste from India 🙏 .. I am an avid follower of your videos since long. An engineer by education, I just love the way you put forth such deep technical details in such a simple and lucid manner ... these are the traits of a great teacher ... my respect. Always wanted to ask you a question regarding Grafting on Rose plants but refrained as you usually deal with fruit trees. Can this technique of chip grafting can be employed on Rose plants? Normally T- graft or wedge grafting is used for roses ... I've used them too . I want your opinion on the best grafting methods for roses including chip grafting using old dormant buds from the older part of the stem. May be couple of videos dedicated to rose!😊Please guide... much love from India.. Regards 🙏

I have watched so many videos on grafting and can honestly say yours are the most informative and best. This video, in particular, is one that I watched a few times to master my bud grafting technique. The close-ups are what make it so informative. I have six varieties of young asian pear trees that need pruning but want to cut scions off for grafting. It would be a waste to discard the pruned branches. I will be bud grafting them to other pear trees. Thanks again for a great video.

You're welcome! When I watched some videos on grafting I was always surprised by the lack of detail. On my videos I always try to improve and show the process as I see it with as much detail as possible (without boring the viewer). Its not so easy to film it and do it at the same time, though, and its very time consuming. Thanks for the comment.

I learned this technique watching your videos, Thanks. You are a Great Teacher. If you are new at grafting , you might want to first practice on some common branches, then when you feel more confident, try some chip buds. If you get a good match, you will be surprised how well a chip will grow in one season.

I used this technique (which I learn from your channel) in hoping to create a fruit salad tree(multiple fruit tree of stone fruit) , 2 years before I grafted plum on one of the branch of my peach there and with grace of God, it has produced a ton of flowers along with the peach flowers 🙂

I am actually trying the same thing..last year i had a plum tree with purple leaves that i grafted using cleft technique on secondary branches... I managed to get success with nectarine, golden plum and apricot. The bark grafts i made at the main trunk though all failed not sure why.. I was trying to graft with also peach and sour cherry.... From what i was told a plum rootstock os compatible with any prunoid tree: cherry,peach,nectarine,apricot and even almonds. You can use quince as rootstock to make a tutti frutti tree of pomoids as it is compatible with Apple, pear and even loquat....

I used this technic last spring with about a 90% success rate with Japanese Fuyu and Hachiya persimmon sions on American persimmon root stocks which were sprouting up from old trees. I learned this chip bud grafting from your videos. I also spritzed the chip buds with water since I was so slow during the process and wanted to keep them from drying out.

After a few hundreds grafts it becomes second nature. As most things practice is everything. Developing muscle memory is key for the easy flow of most of these techniques. But this one is rather easy to learn. You just need a sharp knife and a good control (when cutting the chip towards you) to avoid injuries when learning.
