From an Aggie, much respect to WSSU for standing thier ground and going toe to toe with JSU. They was on some David and Goliath stuff right there.

Be it known that WSSU band director is a JSU graduate, and was the associate director of bands for 11 yrs there. WSSU associate director got his masters degree from JSU, and our Low Brass instructor is a 2005 graduate of JSU...hell even the Chair of WSSU's Fine Arts Department who was present at this battle is a JSU alum aswell. so this was nothing more than a simple showcase of JSU alums to JSU currents. Haters please fall back cause yall are clearly ignorant to what really went down in there

WSSU did they thing, talking about a 96 block versus a band nearly twice the size.

I see this as just a friendly competition real quick. . .For those of you who don't know, WSSU Head band director is not only a former JSU band director, but he's also a Jackson State Alumni as well as a former member of the Sonic Boom. . .It was actually hard for me to even see this as a competition. . .LOL. Much Respect Dr. McGruder. . .You working miracles at WSSU!

before mass band when all of us were lined up on the field some of the btone players told us how good we sounded and that they were shocked at the amount of sound we were producing...and their band director said himself that we were "clean as a whistle" so i wonder where all these other quotes are coming from by people who aren't in EITHER band?

It is good to see that WSSU, who is filled with Jackson State alums on staff, is doing so much better now than what they used to be. It was also good for Magruder to have his kids square up against a heavy weight like the Boom. Great footage. "Luv Da Boom!"

Music/Band is my life!!!!!!! im a sophomore in highschool, section leader of the flutes and ive been in band since 4th grade, ive been quittn band for that long lol i just cant let go! This is what i want to do with my life dedicate it to music and watching things like this only makes me want to pursue my dream even more! whether its singing or playin my flute music is where my heart is I

I love Doc Magruder to death, hell I marched for him at JSU, but dayum, JSU is just a diffrent beast!

@extremegunn94 the guys in the "pilot" suits are the band director and assistant directors. The white guy is over War & Thunder, JSU's drumline. I have heard that they're playing MSU next year, but I'm not positive

Ok......before we get ahead of ourselves remember that this was in a cafeteria, therefore the sound is muffled and that is why WSSU sounds almost as powerful as the boom. No doubt they were putting out some very good sound for their size, but out in the open you would really hear the difference.....just look at the field shows and you will hear a huge difference in the sound of the two. Still big props to WSSU and Magruder for stepping up and not being afraid! Good job!

JSU guy blew d---m instrument so hard, I thought his jaw was gonna burst!! LOL. They are a good band always to me, #1 competitor for the Aggies of A&T in my opinion but my money is on the blue & gold!! Gotta love that Aggie pride!!

I have said this SEVERAL times, I would LOVE to see them go at it with NSU (Norfork State University). I think the two bands are so evenly matched but a slight edge would have to go to NSU, I was hoping either they would win the SWAC or SU would win but I guess I'm gonna have to deal with them beating up on Grambling...
