in this video we put new casings on the 71 honda cl350 scrambler that we got running in the last video after it had been sitting for years . It also gets new side covers , fender , starter solenoid , and a good cleaning.

I totally agree with you on this one. I used to do the same thing kick start my bike in flip-flops because that is the only footwear that will fit my foot because i have big very very extremely wide feet with very chubby fat wide toes that are equally straight across making my foot very very wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My friends thought I was very crazy for riding a bike with flip flops on. But I tell them it's either flip-flops or I go barefooted 👣 cuz there's no other Footwear out there that will fit my foot.

@@1980bwc " LOL" it's definitely crazy. I have even driven my bike as far as 1100 miles to Daytona Bike Week in flip flops. I have 2 foot brace attached to the bike so when I'm riding it I can put my feet up. When I'm on the interstate passing people their face expressions when they see a chubby fat dude on a bike with flip flops on with very extremely wide feet & chubby fat wide toes that are equally straight across they stare at me with this shocking looking face. Even had one Dude ride beside me because he couldn't believe how wide my foot was & how the flip flop stay on my feet because I had my feet propped up while riding down the interstate at 75 miles an hour.

I had a friend who had an old gold wing with really bad tires on it. I brought it to his attention , but he blew it off and hit the highway. The rear tire blew and he was able to bring the bike to a stop, but was run over by oncoming traffic according to witnesses. He was dragged several feet before the driver stopped. He passed away, so I’m glad you are taking care of those.

The third position on the key switch is for the parking light. (Believe it or not) You can park the bike and leave the rear light on so it's visible, to avoid someone running into it I guess. I was 16 and found one of these rusting behind a buddy's garage. the same bike but the street version, not a scrambler. I got it running and was so happy to putt around on it. Led to a lifetime wasted messing with old machines. Wonderful memories.

My 650 Triumph has the same thing ,they sometimes call it a "woodshed light" So if you have your bike is parked out back you can put on the small light and not wake the neighbors or in case of a charging failure limp home...

I was told that in the 70's the Honda ignition switch was also used on the autos of the time and that spot is accessory on Honda cars. Not sure of that but i asked the same question in 92' when i was building my CB 750.

BIG TIP ON CLEANING CHROME: Take tin foil using the dull side dip in a pan of water using it like you did the steel wool, gets all the rust offfffffff. You won't believe it better than cleaners. Jim las vegas nv

Dale Jr must of gave you burnout lessons lol!!!! He was first one I ever saw butt nose of car up against the wall and burn dem TARRRRRRRS down!!!! Then you saw lots copy off him 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Side covers on the one I had, were like a metalic lime green along with the gas tank!!! Ralphie is good kid, glad you got him involved in stuff to keep him busy !!

When I was 20, I bought 2 non running CB 350's and even though I knew nothing, I was able to combine them to make one running bike. I love those old Honda's. My Dad had an old 550-4. I remember some days of riding my bike in the rain around town and just doing flat track power slides around every corner. What a blast, it's a miracle that I never dumped it.

As has already been said, the 3 position is generally your rear tail light. Used primarily while stranded, kind of like a marker light. But, can be configured to be the 2nd On position and will activate all lights on the bike. Most bikes don't have this feature anymore, but it seemed legitimate in the past.

Kool Video Brings back a lot of Memories. .I bought a new Honda 350 Scrambler When they first came out In 1968, its was a replacement for the 305 Honda Scrambler( Dream Engine) I road this bike on the Highway and then converted it to a Hill Climber..45 Tooth Rear Sprocket and Cut Knobbies for Tires, ,Painted it Solid Blue. .Took a Few Trophies In The AMA sportsmen Class..Loved those Hondas !! Cheers !

The bike I rode had a rear parking light. My mother had 3 200 Twinstars, a 650 4 cylinder, 400, and a 400 Hondamatic. She made me work on all of them. I will never be a mechanic but I think it's good to learn. I had to ride in the winter. It wasn't fun or very safe but I can't stay home for long slippery roads or not.

Sleeper, Everyone loves those old Honda and Yamaha bikes. They are a blast to ride. You also have something worth a pretty penny in the collectors market. By the time your done, You’ll get a lot more than the bike and parts cost you. As with most restorations, you never get paid enough for the hours you put into it. The biggest problem is Ralphy wanting to bring that on the trails when he’s 14-15 years old.

In 1971 after returning from the Vietnam war, I was lucky enough to buy a used mint low miles 1967 CB450 for $500 dollars. All black in color except for chrome fenders, chrome side covers, and a chrome exhaust. On mine, the exhaust was different than others I had seen. It had 2 scrambler style pipes, one on each side. Cool looking bike. I absolutely loved that bike. I drove that bike for 4 years, didn`t lay a wrench on it. Enjoy yours Sleeperdude, they are a blast.

Those rubber strips that protect the tube , we called a inter liner . Coker is a fantastic choice for your antique tires . Coker bought the moldes to many old tire tread patterns . The shop i had worked for had some guys that restored Model Ts and As and we were able to find the correct tires and tubes from them and also we restored a 58 T- bird convertible and we were able to put some wide white walls (known as Gangster Walls) that looked prefect on that red with white top Bird !

I've got a 1979 Suzuki I've been cleaning up..what works nice for me was a piece of cotton clothes line ..make one loop around shock or exhaust pipe ..run it back and forth ..really knocks off the crud .. Nice bike ..😉👍😉

If I remember right, the second switch position puts on the tail light/turn markers. It is to protect the bike during temporary parking. Of course it has been 30 years since I owned half a dozen of those bikes.

Yup, so you can work lights without the motor on. Also so if the bike rolls it doesn't roll start.

When yall were cleaning it, I started havin flashbacks of my favorite movie when I was little. "The Dirtbike Kid". I dont know if you would have ever watched it or not. You are few years younger than me. I was born in 80. I recommend that movie for anyone who's never seen it though! Its a really good and clean family movie. I dont think they even make movies now without cussing and all that in it. I bet Ralphie will like it.

Try changing the oil in the forks. Fill it to the correct volume of oil and it might give you more clearance.

I get such pleasure in watching ralphie and Josh work together on stuff as it really reminds me of me and my dad working on his old ford Granada and ford cortina and my little mini's, I used to love spending time at the weekends passing him the tools while he explained what was going on then him passing me the tools when I was that little bit older and telling me how to do it... wonderful videos guys, so lovely to see u boys having such a great relationship 👍💖 xx

There should be a key insert under your headlight. I have a Honda xl350 1973 shop manual. Manual says turn your handlebars left or right insert key push the key in turn 60 degrees to the left while pressing in and it will lock the handlebars from steering to prevent theft. Hope this helps.

Hey Sleeperdude! Great work on a cycle from the era when I rode Triumphs. A tip for the future when changing casings: Lay the new casing on the floor & then place the inner tube in position, slightly inflated within the casing. Then add the cycle wheel & proceed as usual with the levers. Use soapy water as a lube. Sure saves a lot of skin from your knuckles this way & it's much easier! Same for push bikes as well. Keep up the great work but I can't help thinking you'd be struggling without the assistance of Ralphy & Rocky!

I used to ride mine from Brunswick, Maine to Eastern Connecticut where I grew up. The 350CL maxed out for me at about 85. I used to haul ass but had to stop a lot for gas. I always kept my tuned so it would make the redline of 10500 When I was in the Navy a bunch of us had CL350s and one guy had a Triumph and every time we stopped he had to fiddle with something. He bought it in England and drove it to the base he was at in Sicily, except for ferry crossings. He then brought it to Maine. I have a nice picture of parked on the rocky coast of Maine. BTW, that looked like a military base sticker on the front fork, that’s where I had mine back in the day.

Rocky gets into everything lol! Steel wool is really good for wood projects,got a cabinet from a friend and it looked rough and had no sandpaper so swiped some steel wool and did it up,came out smoother than sandpaper

Got the bike looking a lot better. Noticed it has a gold headlight and the primed tank. Now the red side covers. So, looks like painting the tank and light red might be next. Thank you for sharing!

when i was in high school i had a Yamaha Seca 400 and bought a new back tire so the friday before i put the new tire on after school i got a block away from school and did a forth gear full throttle pull till just before the tire blew then looked around and realize i had stopped traffic and all the busses because there was no breeze and you couldn't see through the cloud🤣😂 everyone talked about it the rest of my time at the school

first Honda was 76 750 super sport with 1200 miles red got it 82 rode from Ohio to Kansas to fort riley . Strapped my duffle bag on it and hit the road . 5 hours polishing to 1 hour riding.

You can use simichrome on the aluminum and chrome. It's pricey but works very well. Your scrambler has lots of potential. Next to the falcon this is my favorite. You could do a whole episode on restoring the tank alone!!

Use CLR and 0000 steel wool to clean rust off chrome. Also, that squeal is your starter bendix not disengaging because the shaft needs lubing.

You can paint the engine side covers silver or use hammerite paint and it wii not peel off.I restored one of thoes 350 years ago and i painted the frame black and the tank red with a two " wide black stripe just off to one side of center of the tank the length of it .

rubber hose works well start casings on between rim and casing bead to hold in place. Old leaf spring works well also. They have rounded ends and plenty of leverage.

This sure brings back memories of our early 1970's Honda SL motorbikes. Glad to see like with old cars, parts aren't too hard to find. That 3rd position on the key is probably like an ACC position would be on a car. I'm thinking you can run your light without engine running or ignition coil energized.

Love old school metric bikes ! Remember the Mad Max style bikes in the neighborhood back in the day . My Brothers had Hondas CB's and 1st gen Goldwings ! And as usual Rocky had me laughing out load !!

When I was 16 I had a 69 mach 1 mustang ( wish I still had it) and one day I got the new tires dad had just bought spinning and smoking, I watched the speedometer pas 110 but I was barely moving! When dad saw all the rubber coating the wheel wells he said" when you buy your own tires I bet you won't do that" and you know what? Dad was right!

I was cringing a bit watching Ralphie clean the inside of that mud guard on the bare concrete floor,with that bubble wrap available just next to him, hope it didn't scrape the top chrome too much.went watching further and saw he had put the plastic under the fender, well done, hopefully not too late. Ralphie is a hard working young man, just like his dad.

Oh yeah also you can use a buffing wheel on those aluminum parts you can use it on the fork tubes the side covers I actually just set one up with an old electric motor with an adapter to put a buffing wheel on it works fantastic use the buffing rouges and it comes out like glass.

Excellent video SLEEPDUDE :) crew group that key ignition on cut motor out is security so nobody try steal when go get gas at fuel station or store try starting up cut ignition switch plus electrical too take key out too! Also want clean use 50% hot water , 40% Vinegar and 10% Liguid tide basic one together shake up put on everything! Also forks put f motorcycle fluid in top seals and pump up till super tight! Then put caps tight up too!

My 1973 Honda SL125 was a VERY dependable bike. I kept it until 1987. Had TONS of fun with it. I just got too tall for it. Saw it for sale on Ebay once. It was in Wisconsin?? I knew it went to Canada for a while..

Back in the day, my first bike was a 75 CL360. Rode the neck out of that bike. The left side cover has an indentation on it to clear the pipes.
